@@buddyneher9359 Not sure if you've done it already, but it would be wild to try and identify Beatle tunes from backwards snippets of their songs. You can try and trick everyone with a couple of already backwards sections that seem to come out normal when played backward. Would be quite confusing.
And it was written because Paul McCartney heard that Pete Townshend described The Who's song I Can See For Miles as "the heaviest thing we've ever done" so he wanted to record one of his own, and thus the first heavy metal song was born
This is pure McCartney revisionism. It's a good song, in fact one of my favourite from that LP, but it's far too clean and neat to be 'heavy metal'. It's McCartney - he couldn't write a dirty, rough song if he wanted to. Lennon does much the same when he claims the B52s are copying him and Yoko when they were at their worst (sorry, I meant 'experimental'). Is it not enough just to be a Beatle, just to be one of the two most important song-writers in history?! What next - Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da the first reggae song?
Ive not listened to Now and Then so there's that. 9 out of 12. Did not get Nowhere Man and Ticket to Ride. Sun King was a challenge because I tend think of it as more of the intro for Mean Mister Mustard.

Hi David, interesting test! I'm a guitar player and I studied the Beatles for 20+ years: I'm not totally satisfied with my result, 9/12, but not too bad either I guess...
Hahahahahah they got you in the end with "Now and Then"!!! Only one I didn't get was Ticket to Ride, the guitar though took me back to their early years... and so I picked the same one you picked! "You Can't Do That"! That and "Nowhere Man" were the only ones that made it difficult for me and I was really surprised I got "Nowhere Man"
Nice! Keep making those videos for as long as you can, they're awesome. Also have you heard of the band Sir Chloe? I think the most interesting songs to check out are Untie You and Mercy.
I got fooled by "Now and Then" too, but interestingly it had me thinking of Pink Floyd's "Us and Them," which is both melodically and phonetically close!
I only got now and then because I recognized that it was slide guitar but it didn't sound at all like George's playing. I realized there's only one Beatles song with slide guitar that doesn't feature his playing
Song 12 was a googly, and can be discounted to a certain degree. I didn't get song 11 either, but all the others were pretty easy (with the exception of song 7 (Sgt. Pepper's) which needed both listens).
7 out of 12. The mistakes are often more interesting though. The chord progression in Nowhere Man, particularly when the 7th is added made me think it was some weird version of Across the Universe, even though the tempo and accents were all wrong. Once I heard that, I couldn't get back to Nowhere Man.
This may in fact be the first time I got as good/better score than you and even guessed some songs you didn't! I got an 8.5 (I'll say why it's 0.5). I guess I'm just the most attuned to the guitar parts of songs. 1. Hey Bulldog - this one was pretty obvious (and it's one of my all time favorite Beatles solos so I would have bene mad at myself for missing it!) 2. And Your Bird Can Sing - like you, I only got it at that last second, and then it was obvious. 3. Helter Skelter - also pretty obvious for me. Now I'm starting to get cocky :) 4. Yellow Submarine - this was my favorite song in the world growing up, and something about the warm acoustic just brought back a TON of memories. I wasn't totally sure if I was right, but it just 'felt' right. And it was! 5. All My Lovin - hah, I got this! I recognized the song immediately, but had to sing half of the verses to myself before hitting the chorus though, but I did get it! 6. I Feel Fine - I also laughed as soon as I heard it as I got this one pretty quickly. 7. Sgt. Pepper's - no clue on this one! That was my first miss. 8. Sun King - also fairly quick for me 9. I'm Only Sleeping - so, I am only giving myself a half point for this. I also was going to say Girl, but when you said you could hear a reverse guitar solo, I was like, oh, I'm Only Sleeping!". But I never would have gotten it without that little context clue. So, half point. 10. Ticket to Ride - I also thought this was You Can't Do That! 11. Nowhere Man - I never would have gotten this, but I did see somebody mention it in the comments, so I guessed this must be whereit went. But I don't really count this as a point, even a half point. (It's one of my favorite songs too!) 12. Now and Then - hah, I am SO excited I got this one. It was my first thought (especially because it was both so distinctive but also something I couldn't place in any of the classic songs), and then when you said it was a slide guitar that just cinched it for me. I am pretty sure George didn't start playing slide until AFTER he left the Beatles, and Paul did it as a tribute. I've played versions of these games where they explicitly exclude stuff like Anthology (which include the new singles) so I wasn't sure if Now and Then would be fair game. Personally I do think Free as a Bird, Real Love and Now and Then should count :).
That’s funny. The first time I heard the piece of song 10, I also immediately thought it was You Can’t do That, but the second time I realized it was the B section from Ticket to Ride. The isolated guitar sounds a lot more bluesy than the song all together. I never really noticed the sort of Ray Charles thing with the 7th on that D chord before.
David, because you got 11, I must say, I am mostly a harmonica player, but I see these intros, as a soft entry into, the major note, playing the scale around the bottom of the top note, so that the beginning of the song starts off with a bang, boom, frontal aggression on the vocal line....
@cal.anonymous7970 I don't really understand much about what you are talking about. For me I'm a massive Beatles fan and it's the challenge of recognising parts of familiar songs that have isolated. What key they are in or what the scale is, is all beyond me.
Lennon really was plagiarizing himself! Sun King sounded almost identical to Dear Prudence, Ticket to Ride sounded almost identical to You Can't Do That, and I'm Only Sleeping sounds nearly identical to Girl. 😅
So this might seem a little weird, but i'm serious... You should do a "Guess the Beatles Song" based on some weird sound effect, noise, cough, etc. In other words, not an instrument. The Beatles have dozens of songs with weird voices or sounds on them.
Missed Now and then - which I never listened to, and Yellow Submarine. Got the rest correct . They were too easy . David should have cut the solos down to two or three bars at most. Ie.10/12
I got everything except Sgt Pepper's, Sun King, and Ticket To Ride. I don't really like Sgt Pepper's as an album so I didn't know what the guitar part for the opening track was. I'm not as familiar with Abbey Road so I didn't know Sun King. And the guitar part for Ticket To Ride was impossible for me to recognise without the rest of the band.
@@BradsGonnaPlay Both my sister and I cringed pretty hard when it premiered. There is no rule that says one must like it and I refuse to. I think both George and John would say it was shit.
I recognized almost all of those... but my brain wouldn't connect to the titles in the time available. I'm definitely getting old. I can no longer sing "many years from now."
8/12 for me. Song 9, the one you almost said has the same bouncy triplets feel. I missed number 7, said the same wrong answer as you on number 10, and thought 11 was "You're Going to Lose That Girl", and we both got the same wrong answer on 12 - which was a sneaky one!
Great video and well done, got 12/12, for me it's easier to think of the tone of the guitar to clock in fast what song it is. I think the only one that made me think a little was Nowhere man, because when I think of that song I think about the jingly electric guitar
His distinctive slide guitar style only became a hallmark of Harrison’s music AFTER the Beatles broke up, which leaves “Free as a Bird” and “Now and Then” as the only Beatles songs that include a “Harrisonesque” slide guitar part (ironically, in the case of the latter, played not by Harrison but by McCartney). Slide guitar parts do appear in pre-breakup Beatles songs, but I don’t actually think any of them are played by Harrison. Examples I can think of are “Drive my Car” where the slide work is by McCartney, and “Old Brown Shoe” where it’s by Lennon.
Got 11/12. Ticket to Ride was the one that got me, at first, I thought it was one of their early rock-and-roll tunes, with John's Rickenbacker banging away. For song 11, I wasn't sure if it was Nowhere Man or not, but it was when it revealed itself lol
I got very few of them, but I was proud that I gave the same wrong answer as you for one of them! We both mistakenly identified “Ticket to Ride” as “You Can’t Do That.”
I got maybe two right and I was listening to these songs all my life. I’m nearly 70, and loved the Beatles since they first became famous. 8 out of 12 is impressive, imo.
Hi David I’ve always considered myself as a Beatles expert on all things - to the point that if I went on Mastermind, they would be my specialist subject. On the basis of your quiz, I only recognised 5, 6, and 9 - wrong on the first ‘easy’ 4! I would be crawling off the Black Chair with a measly 3 points. Well done on your effort and score. Vic Whitchurch, Hampshire
I love these, David! Thank you for another fun video. I love it when I can hear the song and you can't and i'm pulling for you to get it 😂 I was so certain I was going to get 12/12 😂 but i got 11/12 and the only song i legitimately had no clue on was song 10. The only song i could think of was "You Can't Do That" but i knew that wasn't right. The only reason I got "Now And Then" is because (I'm pretty sure) George never played slide while they were together. I think the story goes he got interested in it when he was on tour with Bonnie and Delaney. Also, I think that was Mccartney playing slide on the song as a tribute to George. Please correct me if you're reading this and I got any of those things wrong 😊
12/12. No. 11 was the most challenging, but I got it after a few more listens. Putting the vocals on top of the isolated guitar in my head really helped lol

10/12 not bad for guitarist in Beatle tribute act. Some were very similar and needed to play them multiple times, and Sun King I knew there was part speaken in different language but name was just not coming to me.
With all due respect, this really showed you're principally a pianist. That All My Loving solo is instantly recognizable to me (cos I've played it a 1000 times). But overall, u destroyed me. I could only get about 2/3's.
Very similar results to you. I got All My Loving and you didn't. You got Pepper and I didn't. We did EXACTLY the same thing for song 10, and I was equally clueless on 11 and 12. A shame after such a strong start!
9/12 that was harder than i thought. The funny thing is with the last one i thought it sounded like McCartney around RAM, which i also feel when i listen to Now And Then, but i didn't make the link 😅
Its so interesting how musical memory works differently for different people. Because like I always do better on these than David. But as much as I am a huge fan of the Beatles I know Davids spent way more time analyzing and playing the Beatles music so I always assume he'll know it before I do
9/12 - I definitely did not guess "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" or "Nowhere Man", and I also made the mistake of guessing "You Can't Do That" over "Ticket to Ride".
I got 8 out of 12. I thought I had it in the bag but 7, 10, and 11 threw me. I also thought 10 could have been You Can’t Do That even though it felt like the key was wrong. I didn’t get number 12 either but I don’t think that one should count haha.
[SPOILERS] 1. Hey Bulldog ✅ 2. And Your Bird Can Sing ✅ 3. Helter Skelter ✅(unfortunately got this one spoiled because i scrolled down a bit too far, but it's distinct enough that i'm pretty confident i would've gotten it anyway so w/e) 4. 11. Nowhere Man - I never would have gotten this, but I did see somebody mention it in the comments, so I guessed this must be whereit went. But I don't really count this as a point, even a half point. (It's one of my favorite songs too!)
I thought they'd thrown in a non Beatles song as a trick. Pretty confident number 11 was CCR.
I got 10/12. The ones I got wrong were ticket to ride and nowhere man, which are two of my favorite Beatles songs!
Cool..well done I only got 4
our 5 yo daughter is a great fan of your videos on The Beatles. She knows their music from you. ❤
11 out of 12 for me. I too was fooled by the guitar part for Ticket To Ride, and like you David, I thought it was from You Can't Do That.
Next: Guess the Beatles songs from the chord progressions
All my loving
The last one was not fair
4:14 Paul McCartney played that searing lead part
That was a difficult one , I think I had 7 out of 12........the problem is that I recognize it but can't get the name of the song
10/12. Ticket to ride was my second guess but I thought same as you. I mistook Nowhere Man for And I Love Her.
Ie.10/12
I got 9/12
(song 7 was the first one to really stump me - and I'm surprised he didn't get the last one 😅)
I went 6/12 I guess it’s time to start listening to the beatles again
Now and Then is not a Beatles song, unless you think that people who have passed away can make new songs. It shouldn't have come out now, nor then.
I got all of them almost instantly until "Now and Then," which, to me, is annoying so I don't know it well and refuse to listen to it again.
It really saddens me that it’s been added to the Beatles canon. It’s just not a Beatles song at all to me and it never will be.
I'm sitting here thinking I'm great because I got Ticket to Ride, even though I missed most of the rest of them.
Do this with the white stripes
Got 11/12 missed Nowhere Man🙃
Thanks for your great videos🙌
Examples I can think of are “Drive my Car” where the slide work is by McCartney, and “Old Brown Shoe” where it’s by Lennon.
and For You Blue, there from John
@@ricardo_miguel13 Ah. Yes, I actually meant For You Blue when I said Old Brown Shoe.
I got about half right, have been a fan all my life (37 years)
I got 8 out of 12. Same thing with Nowhere Man, I had no clue what that was…
10 out of 12. Missed Now and Then and Sgt Pepper of all things 😂
I got 9 and also thought Ticket to Ride was You can't do that!
I got 11/12😂 I didn’t get Ticket To Ride
Hi David I’ve always considered myself as a Beatles expert on all things - to the point that if I went on Mastermind, they would be my specialist subject. On the basis of your quiz, I only recognised 5, 6, and 9 - wrong on the first ‘easy’ 4! I would be crawling off the Black Chair with a measly 3 points. Well done on your effort and score. Vic

I love these, David! Thank you for another fun video. I love it when I can hear the song and you can't and i'm pulling for you to get it 😂
I was so certain I was going to get 12/12 😂 but i got 11/12 and the only song i legitimately had no clue on was song 10.
Please correct me if you're reading this and I got any of those things wrong 😊
omg I couldn't believe I got "Now And Then". 10/12 :)
Which song number is "now and then"?(I'm trying not to hear it till my vinyl comes)
thank you for the great content!
My pleasure!
final song was mean, and the I feel fine bit was very amusing
i prefer your original videos like the orchestration ones. i always look forward to watch them when they come up.
I got 11 out of 12 - the only one I missed was Sun King
12/12. No. 11 was the most challenging, but I got it after a few more listens. Putting the vocals on top of the isolated guitar in my head really helped lol
10/12 that was fun! Do a video on Beatles handclaps! 😂
I also thought number 10 was You Can't Do That. Maybe because of similar instrumentation and rhythm.
Also got 8/12! Really pleased with myself that I recognized that last guitar solo! 😃

4. Yellow Submarine
5. All My Loving
6. I Feel Fine
7. Sgt. Pepper (I honestly never heard that bit in the mix until the 2017 remix)
8. Sun King (now that I think about it, that's a similar progression to Don't Let Me Down)
9. I'm Only Sleeping
10. Ticket to Ride? (almost got that wrong and said You Can't Do That as well!)
11. Nowhere Man
12. Strawberry Fields? (I am not confident on this) (whoops)
Grand total: 11/12. Not too bad.
Got em all, the guitar parts are such integral parts to them and as a guitar player i know pretty much all of em.

8/12 meh could have done better

1. Hey Bulldog ✅
