    Do you notice the doves liking sunflowers or millet better? Also what do you do to the millet before season? Burn? Mow?

      In general, the sunflowers seem to draw more birds but our field is so small and compact, its hard to tell for sure. We bush hog the millet and and burn it with fire about 1-2 weeks before opener to clean up the field. Check out last years burning video

    Hey on a separate note.... I am going to need to spot spray my .75 acre sunflowers for johnson grass with a backpack sprayer. What should I use and recommendations? TIA

      If they are CLEARFIELD then go with 3oz of Imazamox (Raptor, Beyond, or IMOX) and about 12 oz of Clethodim (Grassout, Clethodeim 2E, etc). Mix in 2pts of non-ionic surfactant like Nitro Surf or similar. If they are not Clearfield, then just the Clethodim and Nirto Surf

      @@Yellowlab247_NC_Outdoors I guess I am having trouble wrapping my head around the concentration amounts. Thos you said seam to be VERY hogh concentrations of the chemicals to be mixed with only 4 gallons of water. Please explain. I am a Newby and transplanted city boy trying to figure this stuff out. I have ALL of those chemicals, just very confused about concentration ratios and all that.

    This is exciting! I know - kind of weird in that it is like saying watching paint drying is exciting. However, it is the unknown that is exciting. It can even cause anxiety wondering if part of the field will be a bust and other parts a boom. The pearl millet will get tall and have a lot of foliage to deal with, but I think you are burning so it should not be a problem. The Japanese millet will be taller than the Browntop, but not as tall at the Pearl millet. The Pearl millet maturity rate is about 80 days, Japanese millet has a wide range of maturity ranging between 60 and 90 days, but I think that is based on location and verity of the plant strain. Of course the Browntop will mature the quickest at 60 days given the moisture it gets. The millets are always a great backup to the other crops. It will certainly be fun seeing how the millet patch turns out.

    Enjoyed your videos. I haven't tried Country Farm and Home for my seed. Reading through some of the comments on other videos I see you also purchase seed from Petersen Wildlife Management in Burlington. Matt is great to deal with. I able to get the seed I want in the amounts I want without having to purchase a whole bag to make my own special Food plot blends. Liberty Farm and Garden is another great place to purchase seed as well. Good luck on your hunting adventures and looking forward to more videos.

    Question how do you get the birds from just eating all the seeds as you put them out. We tried a couple small sunflower plots and came back after the rain and almost every seed was opened from the birds.

    Are you seeding that high of a rate of millet(lbs per acre) because of how you’re doing it? I just always heard 20 to 30 lbs. per acre. Just literally planted my millet today for the first time ever. I appreciate the education you provide through your videos.

    • @Yellowlab247_NC_Outdoors
      @Yellowlab247_NC_Outdoors  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pretty much, without the direct soil contact you’re not going to get 100%. It’s certainly high, but after seeding the other fields at label, I decided to bump up the rates

      I think he was! He was in bad shape, so a cute nurse never hurts moral! I sure can, we normally let the field remain as is until late Sept. and then we disc and plant fall deer crops and wheat. Did some videos of this last year, will do some again. Search back through the channel for "Planting Winter Wheat for Doves"
