    On the subject of foils Aaron, just lately I had an owner of one of my 60ft displaning catamarans add large foils to it against my advice and he managed to slow the boat by 4 knots! I had tried to explain to him that my power catamaran designs slice through the water not climb over it like a planing hull and so trying to get lift from foils was not going to do any good but due to the publicity that foils are getting at present any advice against them is just seen as being negative. What was bemusing was that at the same time I was helping another client fit lifting foils to his 50ft planing monohull and because he is an engineer, had done his research and had built and tested a scale model he got exactly the 4 knots lift in speed at the same revs he predicted. I would think, putting a track system in the overhead of the boat, with a chair/sling that the person could transition from their wheelchair to this chair/sling that would be easily able to maneuver around the boat without having to roll around in the wheelchair.

    Peter Brady is an interesting guy, I had one of his boats for a few years cruising the Barrier Reef and it did perform very well

    just on troling for lost things, mate lost his fishing rod overboard on the upper hawkesbury, maybe 5 mtrs of water. spent 25 minutes casting a lure overboard, and by crikey, we got it back lol. little bit bigger than the action cam and we had the advantage of probably 20 mtres of fishing line we could snag hehe

      there are around 70 Scimitars on the water now but with the latest builders having taken them more up market they are probably hitting a price level for a 33ft boat and so have become harder to sell particularly with plenty on the market second hand. They are a very capable boat with a strong following and the 52ft cat we are building at present is for an ex Scimitar owner. The other problem is that the imports have flooded the market making it very hard for local boatbuilders particularly as 2 of the largest boatbuilders of power cats are owned by companies that also own 2 of the largest bareboat charter operators in the world and so are basicaly building for their own market which is why the desiogn of power cats has gone in the high volume inshore type direction.

      @@speakingofboats wow the man himself, thanks for the reply mate. The steps to the flybridge are the only concern for us on the Scimitars. We are only in our 40s but we both have dodgie ankles. I realise some have a helm downstairs as well so that is definitely an option. Yes the new price is a little out of our range at the moment but we did get to sit in one at Last years SCIBS. It’s great to see them back in production. The idea is absolutely brilliant, a credit to you Sir. 👍🏻. I can definitely see us getting one.

      Better yet', could you build us about a 10m displaning hull boat with a basic yet functional layout. That would be great Peter. Delivery to Mackay. Cheers mate. 😃

    • @speakingofboats
      @speakingofboats 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Luke I am working on a very minimal 45 ft boat using our existing mould based on Norms thoughts on what old dudes like us want. I know it is longer than 10m but it is not the cost of the longer hull that is the big on,e it is the fitout and equipment level that really bumps up the price so not getting carried away with finish or gizmos is the secret. • @leglessKiwi-co9eh
    @leglessKiwi-co9eh 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I'm in a wheelchair, one leg which is weak and one missing...lol. I lived on a 60ft ketch like that and everything was do-able except getting on and off. Especially when anchored getting in and out of a dinghy. I could do it, just, but if I fell into the water I'd never get out again so I had to be supper careful. There was only myself and my wife and in the end the risk was too great. On board though I could do everything with all the hand holds about. Just used a pair of crutches to get to the rear cabin. On the deck it was all bum shuffle.
    I'm thinking about designing a launch to use in a wheelchair and one of the most important additions will be a seat lift like they have at swimming pools to lift dissabled people in and out of the pool. I've used those and they make getting in and out of the water so easy.

      Thank you for telling us of your experiences, I have designed a lift to get Brendan up and down inside the boat and a floor level around the engines he can get around in his wheelchair and am using a remote controlled HIAB type lifter from a light truck to get him onto a wharf or into the tender then the tender into the water.

    Why stop there, you should add some foils that raise and lower for virtually zero drag with full solar electric motors.

    Norm Has your designer mate seen the Impossible dream sailing cat for chairs..
    and built by Adlantic marine just outside Plymouth 🇬🇧 they also build the Daz cats and specialize in boats for disabled sailors. There's also a really interesting electric power boat with a roll over deck to form tunnels and outrigger floats. Its built just outside the Southhampton IOW area. Its quite like a narrow deep version of the Volvo Bat boat racers but with 1930s styling features. It was tested round the IOW.
    If he goes electric motors and deisel generators he can cut out all the diesel engine room problems and just locate his gen sets anywhere...easy to get at . A battery pack allows propusion for several hours or big house loads ..and no cooking gas required.. safer.
    Throwing ideas in based on loacal knowledge and other proven designs.
    For the allergy problems be happy Basalt and Flax fibers are being used and organic epoxies made from sugar cane wastes.. 😉 😎🧙🏼‍♂️🇬🇧🌌

    What a fantastic episode. Lord Dude, I loved the Explanation of the word *DICK* as referred to by Kiwis, for the word *DECK.* I wish I had known about that word when we used to tour around New Zealand. It used to piss me off that they used to insist that I was a Kiwi, due to my Scots Accent being (I suppose) akin to the Kiwi accent, which I totally dispute. But I can tell you, when I build my next model boat, I will build it with a *DICK* rather than a *DECK.*
