When this came out it was so massively ahead of its contemporaries that the repetitiveness didn't matter.. And i never cared for the present day storyline since the very beginning I've played every AC game besides Rogue.. it's just fun combat in amazing alive open worlds.. i'm a simple man i guess..
As far as parkour goes, I would agree with you they were certainly ahead, but massively ahead of other games in 2007 in other ways? I don't think so. I mean mass effect, bioshock and portal all came out that year. Even if we were making an open world argument (which assassins creed barely fits in IMO) then in 2006 oblivion released. The repetitiveness does matter, and it's okay they've got their own thing and launched one of the biggest franchises of all time. I respect them for that.
@DSQ_Jake Oblivion was a fun game but not comparable in graphics and worldbuilding at all. Not even close. I agree Mass Effect was up there with AC but that's cuz ME is one of the best games of all times. But it is the gameplay and storytelling that lifts ME to these heights. Bioshock was more cartoony in artstyle, it didn't compare to AC's realistic graphics, and it's again gameplay and storytelling that makes the game great. I'm not saying AC was the best game out there. But i remember very well being a kid and never had there been such a realistic living open world to play around in before. And the cinematic combat was unmatched. Nowadays every game has tons of combat animations but back then this was mind blowing
Valid points, I would push back on Oblivions world building. Only as far as how immersive that world is. But honestly with where they went with AC 2 I mean that’s truly the GOAT of this era of assassins creed as far as I’m concerned. But of course I haven’t played 3 or anything
im excited for you to clear Ac unity and honestly ac odessy those are my favorites
