As a bulgarian who has been dancing semi professionally for 16 years, this video is genuinely what I have been dreaming about. It sounds stupid but thank you for making my dreams come true.

I will NEVER get tired of this man introducing us to fantastic music I've never been exposed to and doing this brilliant, and I think, thoughtfully respectful metal music addition to the work.
I think it is the best thing on TH-cam.
my favorite youtube comment ever. thanks
My 11-year-old son walked in and said, "This sounds like a boss music!" 😄😄😄
This sounds like a super epic soundtrack to a historic movie.
That's true too!

THIS! This is what we have to send to Eurovision! It's traditional and progressive in the same time. Great job!

@@enchantercometome It means "an old man that has not been married".
@@ketigeorgieva622 thanks!
Imagine how big could be an album made of metal+folk songs from all over the world.
It's 2023, the only way an Album gets big is if one of the major labels allows it. Thank Generation Veruca for that with their Spotify bullshit
Hell yeah, I'd be up for a listen :v
Check out a band called Alien weaponry from New Zealand.

As a Bulgarian metal singer, who began singing at 7 and sang folklore for 10 years, singing "Ergen Deda" many times with the folklore choir of the National Musician High School in Sofia, before going metal, I am so happy and proud to see this. Truly, great work! 🔥 🔥 🔥 Greetings from Bulgaria! 🇧🇬
Your have insdagram?
Any Bulgarian Metal recommendations? Do you have anything up for streaming?
Bulgarian culture is amazing. I loooooove you guys! Beautiful people, country and traditions!
Share your band names with us 😍
Do an album with Andre!
He didn’t have to add much to the song, because the song itself is very rich and colorful. Love from Serbia for all of our Bulgarian brothers and sisters. Наздраве!
Warms your heart to see more and more nice Serbian comments. Hvala bratko or sestrice. Да живее Балканът!

Bulgarian folk music is insanely intricate. Tight harmonies with multiple modal and meter/tempo shifts.
The drumming on this track is a work of genius.
I think the parallels between Bulgarian folk music and especially some Prog Metal in the past decade are qualified by your statement :D
Must be proficient in Jazz.
This sounds likr programmed drums
Sounds like a video game soundtrack for an epic boss battle.
This is legit the Nier Automata soundtrack I swear!
On my 450th watch through this video, I just noticed he put up lights in the back of his studio to match what they had in the video. Truly an artist
I would 100% buy an album of this music.

Check out the song Melkaba from the album Creid. Pretty close!
As a Bulgarian, I salute you! Awesome work!!!
would you mind telling us what the song is roughly about? Just the topic would be fine.
What are they saying, sir?
@@RetroGameSpacko it's basically about an old bachelor who goes down to the village to dance with the ladies. And all of them except the youngest one run away from him... :D
@@negativeindustrial There is translation online. The most repeated phrase "EY TAKA, PAK TAKA" means "Just like that, again like that". Basically it says, that you should go dancing with the girls and look for a wife until you're young. When you get old, your time has past, end everyone just makes fun of you. The "ring dance" refers to Bulgarian word "Horo", which has no direct translation, it is traditional folklore dance.

I have been listening to Bulgarian music for a little while now. I am also a big metal fan. WHY DOES THIS SOUND INCREDIBLE!?!?!
This sounds sooooo damn organic as if it was meant to be like this from the very beginning. Especially the "Chorus" starting at 0:26
Just incredible
Andre has an extraordinary talent for musical creativity!
Bulgarian musical language is one of a kind and for me personally the peak product of their culture. Simply cosmic.
That's an interesting take. In your opinion it trumps the other parts of the folklore like the dance or the the rituals? I personally wouldn't be able to divide them but I'm curious if you do.
But more, do you think it wins against the creation of the Cyrillic? Or the political and cultural base of all Orthodox Slavs?
These ladies have voices of angels!!! Beautiful just beautiful!!!!
I was a bulgarian womens choir enthusiast long before it was "mainstream". I watched them grow and evolve. So glad I lived long enough to see this incarnation of a collaboration between two genres close to my heart; metal and ethnic folk. Outstanding job, thank you for this!!
Am I hearing this right?! ... This is in 7/8 time and has some cut measures as well. This piece switching from minor to major keys and back. This is progressive metal, what the heck! Thanks Andre for interpreting and presenting this video this way. It sounds so good, it really does. I love how you took this piece as it was, not really embellishing on the structure or musicality. You just gave accompaniment to what was already there in full. A great performance by Le Mystere des Voix Bulgares, which you gave wonderful support and respect to. I like the woman about 6 sec in who looks at her friend next to her and flexes her eyebrows saying, "Yeah ... we're gonna kick ass". So metal.
I totally agree with you! Petar Lyondev, who is the author of this version of the folk song used to write progressive metal before it existed. Listen to the other songs by Le Mystere Des Voix, there are a lot of metal features there (for example "Svatba / The Wedding").
This time signature might sound like some complicated syncopation over 4 but if I count to four in bulgarian it matches up because the word "four" in bulgarian has 3 syllables, so it's like 2 + 2 + 2 + 3 making the time signature 9/8 :)
Today is the national holidays of our National culture heroes, so thank you very, very much! Greetings from Bulgaria!
As a lover of both traditional music and metal I cant get enough of this

Haha, didn't even noticed. Even after 10 repeats... Was just purely amazed by this masterpiece!
All of Andres videos have amazing attention to the details of the songs/videos he’s playing with. He’s phenomenal!

... and on top of that, the subtitles! They would be accurate on 100%, if they were written in cyrillic. I'm impressed!... Even the small details like, for example, that word: 'oroto, shortened from "horoto"... man! Impressed and flattered!
The guitar complements this singing so well.
really good! I heard this group live in India, of all places, and fell in love with this music. You've taken it to a new and interesting level!
Hey Andre, I am a 37 year old Bulgarian man and this video brought a small tear to my eyes! (in a good way)
You have added your interpretation of the song while keeping and respecting the original!
The original song is one with a playful/funny intention and you made it into an epic song!
It is about how the women are speaking/gossiping about the following:
"There is a bachelor grandpa.
He is putting his "kalpak" (a traditional Bulgarian male hat) to the left.
Then to the top and bottom (basically he wants to look good)
He then goes to the village.
He joins the "horo"
Horo is a traditional Bulgarian folk dance.
You can have a male only one, a female only one and a mixed one.
One person starts dancing and others join them.
No one refuses someone joining (unless the person joining is a jerk)
And back in the day once a week usually every village had people gather in the square and have a celebration.
And this celebration with a "horo" dance was an opportunity for a young bachelor and an unmarried lady to sort of flirt.
And if they liked each other their families might talk and arrange a marriage.
So it is an important event. Both for the older people to meet each other and maintain a community and for the young to find life partners.
So this bachelor grandpa (Something very unlikely back then unless he is a widower. But the women using the word bachelor means that he was never married. Again something very strange and unlikely back then)
The bachelor grandpa joins the "horo" dance.
Then all the "momi" (momi means unmarried women usually young) they all run away
Then only the youngest Angelina is left (she has to learn)"
There are no other lyrics.
So Andre from a playful gossip session and making fun of grandpa bachelors you made it into an epic song!
I have watched your videos before - some of the The Nooran Sisters and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan ones.
As well as some of the funny ones like the Navy Drill Instructor and The Husband Calling ones.
What you do with the folk and traditional music from other countries apart from making beautiful music is that you are introducing new artists and genres to people like me!
I would be honored if you do another Bulgarian song!
Thank you for producing this one!
My god! If you haven’t done anything else with writing, you SHOULD! I just read the translated version of this comment, and it made me cry… I love your writing skill.

Bulgarian metalhead approves.
As a portuguese who lived in Bulgaria for a few years I had to click. One of the portuguese amazing hidden gems and Bulgaria, what a time to be alive.
Something about the dissonance in much of song makes 0:26 and 0:51 so much more triumphant and emotional. Insane how to do much energy can be fit into 2-3 minutes
I freaking love these parts.
Very tasteful, knowledgeable and respectful arrangement of the wonderful "Voix Bulgares" - despite the metal guitar you don't overrun the choir at any point but support the wonderful harmonies and the complex meter. Very musical and skillful! Thank you!
Sounds exactly like the beginning of "Parasite Eve" by Bring me the Horizon :)
I love the bulgarian choir harmony, it's so unique and haunting!

I am from Nepal and i am huge huge fan of Bulgarian music. Respect!
I didn't know that Bulgarian Folk is in 7/8. Respect👏
There's much more and complex rhythms in Bulgarian folklore. You can easily find as well 9/16, 11/16, 15/16, and combinations between them like 7/16+11/16 or 9/16+13/16. It's a whole another universe.
I don't know much about music theory but I did read that a lot of balkan folk music uses this mesure
... mean while my region (Istra) has it's own fucking scale
Bulgarian folk is next level I love it so much
The harmonies are so perfect they're unreal! Ive never heard such symmetry! Absolute perfection to the highest!
Fascinating! Cheers from Volga Bulgaria!❤

I seriously hope we can one day see a full album of Metal + Bulgarian Folk.
the mix of the two just hits right in the feels, and their complex harmonies and time signatures, coupled with metal's drums, guitar, bass and additional instruments is perfect. Such energy.
As a Bulgarian i can confirm that this is fire
One of my favorite songs, the famous songs "Touched" from VAST uses samples from "Le Mystère Des Voix Bulgares" too. From 1975. How small the world is.
That's some awesome prog metal, lol
Very progressive! Salutations from a non Bulgarian currently in Bulgaria. It's a wonderful place.
Making modern versions of classic folk songs is simply amazing. There is only one danger.....millions of youth might start liking and listening to Bulgarian Folk music suddenly! Would be great though...imagine that this music becomes even more popular than it already is actually but for a broad audience all over the world! Maybe even more popular than Justin Bieber :P.
Looping 10+ times and not tired of it. amazing
Goosebumps, especially when it resolves to a major chord at 0:51 (and again later) after the tension buildup. Another masterpiece of blended musical styles.
