As a Brit living in Malaysia, people here speak much better English than Thais and although it may not seem as warm on the surface, people are very easy going and kind and sincere. A lot of tourists maybe don't realise that most of the people they interact with are foreign workers (Bangladeshi, Pakistani etc)
Yeah, it's possible that she's been conversing with foreign workers, who may not be inclined to interact even if their English was good. I mean, it makes sense that the people you'd initially converse with in a new country are the people working service type jobs there, as opposed to randomly picking some stranger minding their own business.
Malaysians generally love interacting with foreigners.
To be fair, she has a very thick accent as well. She speaks English at a somewhat slow pace, which is also very clear and understandable to someone fluent in English. But the thickness of her accent might throw off those who are not fluent in the language.
It's infuriating that even Indonesians think local Malaysian Indians as Bangladeshi and lump them together and call Malaysia, Malaydesh online 😊

This explain that you're truly living in Malaysia Sir. all your words are indeed right cos most of the time, the tourists have a hard time to differentiate between the local and the migrant. I'm Malaysian i do wish KL to be more walkable. I totally understand when people said we end up at middle of highway or busy road. 😅😅
Having lived in many walkable western cities, you really would NOT want KL to be so walkable. The side effect is it will definitely cost your driving around more money and more time (traffic).
@@mklengreally😅. I thought walkable is desirable. The foreign people always seems to say this is the ultimate pros. So I do wish one day to live in a walkable city, more healthy too in my opinion 😂
No walkable cause malaysia is hot. What the point is goverment make more walkable if their own citizen don't want to walk and complain about the weather.😅

Having lived and worked here in KL for thirteen years, I enjoyed hearing these first impressions. Reminded me of my initial thoughts and experiences when I first arrived. Wanted to say hello but didn't want to interrupt. Keep up the great content!

The Italian lady never speak to Malaysian yet. Are you sure all Thailanders can speak English or Italian.
Nevermind...not everyone you meet in KL is Malaysian...
The average tourist staying in the center of KL is going to encounter mostly non-Malaysian people. So their impression will be that the people here do not speak good English. And in certain Bangkok neighborhoods in the city center with a lot of tourists/westerners, the workers speak English. She probably lives in one of those areas and is comparing her experience here with that.

Give the Italian lady a couple days more and she'll realise Malaysians speak rather good English compared to it's northern neighbors. And most Malaysians are multi lingual too. Lol😂

Hi Afifi
I was in Singapore for 4 years and Malaysia for 5. I guess in Malaysia they generally speak better English? I used to work at a company in Singapore and most the time I was having difficulty understanding what they were saying. In terms of quality of life, Malaysia has better healthcare than Singapore mainly because it's affordable and world class. Back in the States now but I def will pay Malaysia a visit next time.
Nice, I’m gonna see how the English in Singapore is when I go do some interviews there!
You must be joking 😂😂😂
My friend spent $300k to treat his mum in Singapore for her cancer. I asked him why not Malaysia? He told me Singapore has specialist for this kind of cancer. I didn't ask what kind of cancer though.
@@beastsw109 Probably it's because of the Singaporean accent and the slang words that they use? Even in large MNCs, the staff would use would pretty odd words that will either make you confused or make you chuckle. For example, when they say that something needs to be discarded, sometimes they'd say it will need to be "condemned". Similarly, when something is damaged and can't be repaired, they will also say that it's "condemned". When you speak to the upper management people, it would appear that they are less articulate because their vocabulary isn't as rich, if that makes sense? Strangely in Malaysia, people in the upper management of large corporations and MNCs are somewhat more eloquent and articulate. Not sure what's the reason behind it, considering that people at this level would typically be similarly highly-educated.

It's encouraging to hear that foreigners find Malaysians to be amiable, but as a Malaysian, I think that we are both cautious and kind. Sometimes being overly cordial to someone we just knew can lead to suspicions, so we strive not to appear as overly kind. It's also possible that some of us may not also speak English fluently and avoid to engage in-depth conversations with foreigners. So, I'm not sure how they perceive Malaysians to be friendly unless they come up to us and strike up a conversation with us first.
Nahh, we're friendly but we usually mind our own business. Hence why some would perceive it as not friendly. But it's true tho, if you need help most Malaysian would be glad to help you
@@ahmadfaizal3081 - We certainly are. Since I tried to appear as a friendly person, I will undoubtedly feel flattered if others think the same of me. I also expect others to feel the same way. However, I would start to wonder whether someone is attempting to sell or solicit something if he seemed unduly friendly. Numerous cases exist when someone seems to be a foreigner who pretends interested in our currency, but in actuality, he utilises charm to steal our money in broad daylight. Of course, we can still exercise caution and not assume anything bad when someone is merely asking us for directions.

I’ve never been to KL. Now I learned from this video like this, “don’t walk following the navigation system. You would be stuck.” I was planning to walk around in KL, but …I installed Grab app.
KL is not as walkable compared to smaller cities in Malaysia, and especially other countries. But there are places that are actually designed to be walkable in KL. It's just that the climate here is too hot or too rainy, hence 'walkable city' isn't exactly a thing here.
I don't understand all this vitriol about KL being anti-pedestrians. I go on foot whenever I visit KL. Ride the LRTs whenever I can. I wouldn't take Grab if the trip isn't further than 2km. Go on a cab or rent a car if you like, but you wouldn't be able to see the real KL Anyway the city has changed too much for my liking, it's like a completely different animal from even 10 years ago.

@@benfisherminThat's the thing. The people travellers usually interface and meet with in Malaysia - security guards, waiters, shop assistants and other menial front line workers - tend to be foreign migrant workers from Indonesia, Bangladesh, Myanmar, India etc. Their English is expectedly minimal at best. Note that Malaysia is host to a large number of migrant workers in 3D jobs - at least 7 million according to former Prime Minister Tun Mahathir in 2019. Love your videos bro. Keep it up!
Surprised that the Italian lady said "Malaysians" are not very good in english.. on the contrary, you will have a harder time speaking english with people in Bangkok or Thailand for that matter. I do agree though, in general, Thai people are friendlier overall. But I believe the further you go away from the city centre, people get friendlier in Malaysia.
Malaysia was once under the British and for many decades English was the medium of instruction in schools up until the latter part of the 1960s or even the early 1970s. Hence, it should be the case that Malaysians have a superior command of the language compared to people who were not under British influence/colonialism. However, that is not the case in general. Standards have dropped precipitously through the decades and English proficiency in other countries have caught up. That Italian lady for example, speaks better English than over 75% of Malaysians. I wouldn't be as eloquent as her if I were to be interviewed spontaneously like that..
You're an excellent interviewer, any tips or tricks? I would like to do this in my city here in Canada.
People judging on first day they're quick . I believe you need more time to spend before you judge any country.just mine opinion
The question is about their first impression 😅
