Dan Severn is a year older than Haku and wasn’t fast or athletic. He could wrestle and was probably strong but so was Haku. Haku could still move fast and fly around in the ring when he came back to WWF in 2001 so he definitely would’ve been just fine in the 90’s

There are still people out there that believe with all their hearts Harley Race would beat Dan Severn and Brock Lesnar. It's a testament to the power of kayfabe more than anything I think.
This is probably the most reasoned analysis of Haku's legit credentials and potential that I've ever seen. You've got two camps when it comes to Haku - the old-timers who claim he was the toughest man alive but only have a bunch of stories of bar-room brawls and cops with mace and handcuffs etc. and then the n00bs who totally discredit him because he never fought in the Octagon so therefore he must've been a pussy with zero fighting skill. Barnett is better than anyone in either camp.
All signature moves of Meng like eye gouging and biting were illegal even in the early days of UFC, so speculations that he would have been some great fighter have no background whatsoever
And even though those things were illegal, it doesn't mean some of the early guys didn't try it. Gerard Gordeau bit Royce Gracie in UFC 1 during their match and the only thing it got him was that Royce held the rear naked choke far after Gerard tapped to punish him for his behavior.
This is a BS answer. It’s a hypothetical… why would we assume he isn’t doing it full time or that he couldn’t train in whatever he needed to? Hard to say exactly how it would have worked out but he was light years better than the early ufc guys - biggerc stronger, more flexible and much faster than say… Kimo. Many top mma guys came from pro wrestling in Japan. I think a young haku could have made a great fighter. I don’t know exactly how good. I think with his athleticism, strength, quickeness and good flexibility he’d have picked up bjj very fast.
He was trying to be respectful. Haku is known to be a badass because of bar fights with drunk morons. Barnett didn't want to disrespect the legend of Haku, but he wanted to give a honest answer as well. I thought he was pretty diplomatic.
I reckon Haku would have been very difficult to deal with in his prime had he trained for MMA. His toughness. We will never know. One thing I do know is that he would fear no man in a fight - MMA or not. Because he is not only tough but crazy. We heard the stories of him taking on multiple people and multiple cops; he just did not care.
I dont know why people are saying haku wouldnt have made it in the ufc from all the stories i hear he sounds like an untrained jon jones and that type of viciousness will get you a win no matter what type of combat you choose to pursue
People ignore Haku was trained not only in Sumu but several different martial arts. He standing still could kick guys over 7 feet in the face with perfect balance. Also no one in MMA was close to being as strong as he was.
Kimo didn’t get wrecked at all. Royce had to result to hair pulling in that fight. The reason Royce had to bow out, of that tournament, was due to the beating Kimo put on him.
Sport fighting is a learn as you go some learn as they advance others don't learn much that's the difference between a great fighter and a great champion great fighters don't always become great champions some never win or get a title shot and when it comes to fighting styles they are all over rated it's how you use what you learn not what you know Haku would have been great but we'll never truly know.
One of my comments here was deleted/removed, so I will try again in a nicer way. First off, skimming through these comments, you get the feeling many of them are being written by one user with multiple TH-cam usernames. You can tell by how similar/repetitive many of these comments are. It's obvious. Why would this one person do that? Seems to be a trend on a lot of these pro wrestling oriented video clips. They feel insulted and feel they need to reinforce a point with multiple fake usernames/profiles. Really? That's sad. Secondly, let's get realistic. Haku was (and probably can still fight, to an extent, today) a 100% legit street fighter who fights for his life, not to try to show off in front of misguided UFC fans. If Haku was in his 20's right now, he would dominate whatever weight class they put him in. He would be Champion of whatever weight class. Haku could crush people 300+ pounds. In a real fight, weight class means nothing. In a real fight, you can't tap out; you fight until one is unconscious. Haku would inflict so much damage that UFC would have to call paramedics to take Haku's fallen opponent to the hospital OR at the very least Haku's opponent would require unprecedented surgical repair in a hospital. The type of damage no UFC fighter in history has ever inflicted or endured. No UFC fighter (or other companies like UFC) is a master. In UFC/MMA history, there has never been a true assassin, a true killer. Haku, however, is a true master, a true assassin, a true killer. Haku may never admit it (because a true master doesn't brag or reveal the skills/techniques he has), but he is a master trained in a variety of fighting disciplines such as: Aikido, real Martial Arts striking, submission techniques. The Tongan Death Grip, for instance, is something no amateur (yes, all UFC fighters are amateurs) can prepare for. The Tongan Death Grip is probably illegal in UFC. The only way Haku would ever lose to an amateur UFC figther is if he disqualifies himself by using outlawed submission techniques or excessively attacks (UFC actually has a list of illegal places you can not strike on the body). Headbutting is probably illegal. Well, in a real pro martial arts fight, you can strike anywhere on the body (including places like the groin or spine or eyes or ears or back of the head). In fact, UFC is so weak that an amateur like Brock Lesnar joined and became a Champion. UFC fighters are incredibly overrated. If they ever allowed a killer assassin to join, such as Haku or Dan Spivey (rumors are Spivey not only had a boxing background but was some kind of hitman or debt collector before he joined pro wrestling), you would see what a real master can do and how outclassed every UFC fighter in its history would be. I don't know if there's some secret master out there who trained killers like Haku or Dan Spivey, but they have been trained to win fights fast in 30 seconds AND inflict incredible damage (such as facial bones sticking out of face after being struck with just a few strikes). No UFC amateur has ever been able to inflict this kind of damage. If these UFC fighters can't do this, they should at least try to master lock-and-hold Aikido techniques. Another good example is Badd Karma from Fight Zone (back in the 90's). He was another master who would obliterate any fighter in UFC history. Obviously he was a master of many disciplines but his Aikido mastery allowed him to defend against any opponent (no matter what weight class). Never underestimate what a real master can do. Many UFC fighters spend 80% of the match grappling on the ground. Well, for example, a UFC fighter who tries to take down someone like Dan Spivey to the ground to wrestle will immediately get his face punched off forcing the ref to call the fight as TKO victory for Spivey.
prime Haku vs prime Barnett would of been like sending a lamb to the slaughter for Haku you don’t realise the levels of trained world class fighters like JB were/are at
Exactly. You want to talk about tough. Fedor got dropped directly onto his head and neck by D1 wrestler and genetic freak Kevin Randleman and wasn't even phased by it. These Haku stories have gotten way out of hand. Beating up drunk bums in bars doesn't mean you could deal with highly trained professional fighters. None of the fans who talk about what a badass he was have ever even seen him fight and just go off the stories told by other pro wrestlers. I'm sure they are real reliable, LOL.

Steiner brothers said "we thought we were tough until we met haku". Don Frye said Haku is a real deal. Hakus best feats are pretty much immune to pain and very strong while being agile. He could easily kick the head of"giants" like big show and Andre.
Eye gouging biting, grabbing balls, breaking fingers, grabbing the throat, etc. are very real, and stuff like that is why nobody though of grappling as the main way of fighting before the UFC. So it becomes about brute strength, size, athleticism, balance, and and hands, as everyone's intuitively knew before they were brainwashed by the Gracies. That being said, he might not have dominated MMA, though, if he somehow lacked some grappling skill. Seems like his hands were fast enough, we know he could kick, and I can't imaging him having a weak chin. Modern heavyweight division doesn't seem to be about submission skill as much anymore and is reverting back to size, strength, athleticism and hand speed again, as everyone's gotten pretty good at sub defense and the grappling pace isn't frenetic enough at that size for a bunch of sub openings to come up. Guys still get subbed, but it's usually because they're gassed or being physically overwhelmed rather than people getting Noguiera or Frank Mir type slick stuff.
I clicked on this. :D Haku was offered UFC early on. I think he would have domineered for a good few years. The total package of speed, skills, strength and durability. But he stuck with WCW.
😂 he would’ve done no such thing ! Shamrock , Goodrich , Coleman and Fry would’ve smashed him. Gracie would’ve choked him or broke his arm. Y’all gotta stop building up these wrestler “legends” lol
Every Haku fight story I've heard revolves around someone disrespecting someone and Haku standing up for himself or someone else. That set up isn't always there in professional fights and when it wasn't there I don't think the full Haku warrior would be there either. He seems to get legitimately triggered by rude behavior or what he perceives as being unfair treatment of someone. In those moments he knows no fear, only determination. I think he will always be that guy no matter how old he gets. My Grandfather was like that. Had 20% of his lung capacity, due to emphysema and asbestosis, and when he woke up in the ICU and found out he was there because a doctor had given him a medicine with the potential side effect, "may cause shortness of breath", he got up out of his hospital bed and went after that doctor. Said he was trying to kill him before he could kill anyone else.
Not trying to sound disrespectful, but how much does Josh Barnett know about Haku? I mean, does he actually know him, or is he a little more knowledgeable about Haku's fighting ability than, say, me? I've heard some of the stories, I can see that he's a big, strong, guy, but unlike Barnett, I'm not an mma expert.
Barnett is being nice in other words just because Haku can beat up joe schmo at the bar doesn't mean he can beat a pro fighter or any one with semi decent skills.

Josh Barnetts real opinion starts after the 3 min mark! He says……. “Haku would of been TERROR back in the day” “We all know you were a badass” “You wouldn’t wanna fight him again” “It would be impressive to see if you can find him being dominantly beaten, I just don’t see it” “He’s the guy you avoid on the come up, this would be way too much effort no matter what, you don’t get out of this without getting hurt some how if you even get the win” “He’s crazy tough and hell to deal with, you don’t get away without leaving hurt somehow, if he didn’t already hurt you and take you out” That’s enough for me, along with son Frye calling him a scary human being and a frightening person.

Dan Severn is a year older than Haku and wasn’t fast or athletic. He could wrestle and was probably strong but so was Haku. Haku could still move fast and fly around in the ring when he came back to WWF in 2001 so he definitely would’ve been just fine in the 90’s

Meng used to bar room fight..big difference than both
"Haku is that guy." There ya go.
i dont know can you do the throught rip choke in mma
No nor eye gouges
All signature moves of Meng like eye gouging and biting were illegal even in the early days of UFC, so speculations that he would have been some great fighter have no background whatsoever
And even though those things were illegal, it doesn't mean some of the early guys didn't try it. Gerard Gordeau bit Royce Gracie in UFC 1 during their match and the only thing it got him was that Royce held the rear naked choke far after Gerard tapped to punish him for his behavior.
I wonder what Haku would look like at 265 lbs in his prime ? ( UFC Heavyweight limit )
Not a bs answer at all
Josh has been there and done it he's a legitimate badass while haku never competed in MMA so no one knows how good haku would have been
He was being nice haku has a reputation for beating up bar drunks. How can anyone make a judgement based on never seeing him fight.
Kimo was very fast, very strong, in better shape and a better amateur wrestler than Haku. Kimo would have wrecked Haku in the 90's.

Kimo got wrecked by Royce Gracie who had no striking ability at all. He would’ve got wrecked by Haku as well

Haku would have been a slightly stronger version of mark hunt, so he would have done fairly well.
prime Haku vs prime Barnett would of been like sending a lamb to the slaughter for Haku you don’t realise the levels of trained world class fighters like JB were/are at

A young Haku would have owned MMA
