He started in the basement, and at open mic nights, but he made his way up into the industry before those vids were uploaded to TH-cam, TH-cam though did really help launch his career when he was playing on the festival cirucits
I’ve been hoping you’d go down a Billy rabbit hole. Make sure to check out his live stuff with the full band, you’ll see his wide range of genres he blends into his own unique sound. As good as it gets 🤘🏻
Love this! This was just Billy messing around at maybe Level 2 ... his picking abilities get so much more bananas! For a quick vocal example, if you're interested, Billy posted a Short on his channel a bit ago "I’m gonna wake up and change my ways one of these days #bluegrass #billystrings #acapella". But the best vocals to look up might be "And Am I Born To Die" or "Summertime (with Marcus King)". Enjoy the rabbit hole :)
Yes on that Summertime video with Marcus! th-cam.com/video/1RNNQYpnukA/w-d-xo.html and Check out Marcus singing too... and for good measure Sierra Ferrell
Billy and band are the ultimate ❤ Billy with Tommy Emmanuel "Guitar Boogie" live, unrehearsed will blow your mind for picking. With Post Malone "Cocaine Blues " is fun. Anything live is wonderful and mind boggling.
Dust in a Baggie is my favorite Billy Strings song, this guy is amazing! Btw you should do a reaction to Marc Martel he sounds exactly like Freddie Mercury and even looks similar to him in some ways. He became famous for his Bohemian Rhapsody cover song
If you want to really hear him sing, his a capella version of And Am I Born To Die at the Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival in 2018 is freakin amazing. So is Summertime with Marcus King. Don't skip his stuff with his band. Turmoil and Tinfoil will make you rethink what bluegrass is. His live version of Boulderdash with Bela Fleck really showcases his technical playing abilities. There's too damn much good stuff of his out there! I'm a little jealous that you're discovering him for the first time.
Someone else mentioned "Summertime" with Billy Strings and Marcus King at Carter's Vintage Guitars in Nashville. That is a good place to see Billy use his vocals, but does not represent his full range, because in that particular take both Marcus and Billy are drawing heavily on Doc Watson and David "Dawg" Grishman - I believe Marcus is playing riffs he picked up from the "PIzza Tapes" a recorded jam session with David Grisman, Jerry Garcia and Tony Rice. - But it does give a great demonstration that Billy is a solid singer, and not just a Bluegrass singer. th-cam.com/video/1RNNQYpnukA/w-d-xo.html
@@Sher0420-v COOL. I've been obsessed with Sierra for about 4 years. She is a must see live performer. I am glad I got to see her a couple of times when she first started touring with a band, at smallish venues.
@@Sher0420-v I have been racking my brain for one songs / videos Billy Strings opens up and show of his singing ability on. He mostly sells himself as a guitarist. He arranges his songs in a very straight sensibility ad showcasing his vocal power and range is not often the focus. Two songs - "Ruby (Are You Mad at Your Man)" and "Freeborn Man" stand out to me. He performed "Freeborn Man" frequently as he was building his fan base. He used it as a way to lean into tradition and emphasize that he was a legit bluegrass player when people might have seen a young whipper snapper on stage. So two videos for you - the first a decade old video from 2014 when Billy Strings was playing local gigs around Michigan. th-cam.com/video/Hsp5LpVjj90/w-d-xo.html then second from 2023 when Billy Strings celebrated that he has made to legitimate start status. He played 3 sold out shows in 3 nights in Nashville. The last show was at the Ryman Theater and Billy Strings and the Band came out in a set of suits like 1963 and played nothing but traditional BLuegrass standards in the traditional style - with the best and hottest picking you could ever see. th-cam.com/video/990w6dxYBOw/w-d-xo.html
Billy started in a basement on YT but also has been playing live for longer than he is old. A true treasure ❤️

Billy’s vocals. Away from the Mire. 👍
His cover of Dylan’s Don’t Think Twice is simply gorgeous ❤

My Dad plays a Martin D28. Such angelic sound. ❤
Watch Billy with Marcus King performing Summertime at the Carter Guitar center in Nashville...Billy plays a Thompson custom while on stage.
@@joelwonder5362 with Marcus King??? Bookmarking this comment. I am gonna do that one. That should be awesome to see thank you.
That Summertime Video is a good Showcase of Billy's raw vocals because it is so simple and such a soulful song

Away from the Mire live at Lallapaloosa 2022 is the strongest performance you have ever seen, You will thank us! Listen to Moose and Me!

Theo has been clean for many years now. In his day he enjoyed his powder. Go check out his " this is not happening" set.
If you can find a good video of him covering “ain’t nothing to me” his vocals are unreal, really suits his voice!
theo is sober now
Surprised to hear Theo find a pitch. 😉
Yes, BILLY STRINGS>... lots of good suggestions -- BUT Check out Sierra Ferrell!
100% YES! I’ve been OBSESSED with Sierra for the past year. She’s tremendous.
