Bro, I'm half-pakhtun (but from Swat valley in Pakistan, not Pekhawar ya da Afghanistan) and I'm literally so impressed. Your vocabulary is amazing, and thought your pronunciation was stiff (this was years ago though), it's very hard to train an English tongue into learning how to work with all these different sounds that require new parts of your mouth to come into play. Either way; can't imagine how you speak now, most assuredly way better than me lol. Hopefully I can get back in touch with that part of my history and re-learn it ....... somehow.

If I wasn't used to hearing different dialects now and again I don't think I'd be able to understand much of what you said. In fact, some of what you said I only picked up because of the aid of subtitles lol. Might be more helpful for someone who is more familiar with the dialect you are using to give you any pointers or critiques. Compared to my dialect it is all kinds of incorrect, but that may not be the case for whichever dialect you are using.

People in the U.K don't really sound like the BBC. The same is true for BBC PASHTO. I was BBC Pashto on the Internet and it takes a while for you to acclimatize yourself to the way they deliver the standardized dialect. They're both members of the Indo-Aryan family, but Pashto has a number of grammatical features (gender, case, ergativity) which Farsi/Dari dropped thousands of years ago. For me, the two do sound very similar, but one unique feature of Pashto is that it has retroflex consonants and several distinct fricatives (dz, ts). To me, at least, Dari accents tend to sound more nasal, but it changes noticeably from region to region. In terms of vocabulary, they are very similar indeed. Hope that helps!

Good job Tim! And the dialect you are speaking is the true and correct version spoken by pashtuns in northern and eastern Afghanistan. I would not heed the advice of people telling you to learn pekhawari pashto as it is unfortunately not the pure dialect. It is very Urdu influenced and is not seen as pure by the pashtuns.
    Anyways, good job bro!

..let me tell you something interesting as you are getting excited while speaking pashto similarly people over here in Pakistan they are getting died for e English matter of fact English is used as a yardstick against the literacy level of a person is measured lol I know this sounds funny to all of you but it is fact such as if any person over here in Pakistan gets a PhD degree in economics but he had done his course in Urdu and unable to speak English as the native one does he will be considered illiterate and same man gets to USA washes dishes over there when gets back to country he is being taken as highly qualified ...and this is the basic reason our nation will never make a progress because they feel so shy talking in their native language

    (1) Have you considered a career in the foreign service (or in the intelligence world). Being a white Pashto speaker is something of a rarity. I'm sure your country could find very worthwhile ways to apply your skills. My advice if you do end up pursuing that, don't follow the analyst route; with good Pashto you're better off going out into the field as a case officer than sitting in a contact centre at one of the CIA's "off-campus" out-stations waiting for boring material to come in to be translated;.
    (2) You're really cute. Sorry, I know if it were a girl it's be creepy for me to say so. But the whole polyglottal thing (with novel languages to boot), and the adorable floppy hair.

LordHealey, I speak 11 languages but will never go to a war zone of my own origins because they kill people like me saying we are the worse of both worlds. For this young man yes. He is outsider so they will like him rather than killing him. My brother works in the British Council etc and he was offered a top job in Afghanistan but he refused because his wife said they will kill him. Thus it is better that an outsider speak this language because they do not see them as a threat but If I go or others like me it is certain death.
