YG has their own unique style and they aren't going to steer away from it just because some people are tired of it. Plenty of people still like it, clearly as this song has been a smash hit for a debut song. It's currently in the Top 10 in Korea, celebrities are talking about it all over the place, and crowds are dancing to it in public. Also, while it does have that YG sound, it is actually different enough. Batter Up is the song that was getting hate for being unoriginal. Tbh I feel like YG almost did that on purpose because they weren't going to waste their great songs on an incomplete group. They were without their star player, Ahyeon, and they had to do something because the fans were getting pissed (seriously they were being ridiculous). Cue Batter Up. It has the YG sound but isn't anything special enough to give to a group that doesn't have it's main attractor (Ahyeon).
Interesting thought to back that claim up- Babymonster was always planned to debut between October-November last year. From the very beginning when the group was announced YG said they'd debut in the later half of the year, and then they said 4th quarter of 2023 shortly after. Notice how this song (and the MV) has a lot of spooky vibes? Like Halloween? Yep. I really think this was always meant to be their debut song, but when Ahyeon got sick everything got thrown off so YG had to improvise. Batter Up was a bside that had the generic YG sound but didn't have the wow factor. It would work to get the fans off their back until Ahyeon was ready to come back.
Fun fact- did you know rolls royce has a car called Ghost? Hence Asa's "pull up in a ghost" reference.
I personally love this song. I hope YG can back it up in the future. As much as I love YG, I'm not sold on them being able to consistently produce hits at this point in time. I do know that within the last year or so they recently hired 40 new producers in order to have their groups release comebacks more frequently. Hopefully that also translates to good music as well.
PS- I loved that you picked up on the choreography being simpler so the group can sing live. Very keen observation there! People were giving the choreography crap in the beginning because of the simplicity, but people stopped after fans started pointing out it needed to be more simple in order for them to be able to perform live.

thank you! I hate to say it but I think when the choreography is so complex I find it hard to buy that they are singing that song.
I love the YG style I think it works still as well, I think it sounds so different and has a bit of an edge to it, I think they did too, I am with you on that. I thought "Batter up!" was pretty good, I am kind of glad that I am kind of separate from the fandoms in that way. I would have never known,
I did know about the Rolls Royce Ghost, that's a sneaky reference haha
if they can and do, Babymonster will in my opinion be the ones to be the spiritual successor and surpass BP

@@Killdeer25 I think the biggest problem with Batter Up was not only that many people are getting tired of the same old formula, but they focused so much on Babymonster's talent and vocal ability during their documentary that come debut, people really wanted to see that in their music. Also before BM was actually announced, there were official statements of YG wanting them to be more vocal heavy like Big Mama and Mamamoo, so cue Batter Up and you have another very generic YG song that didn't highlight much of anything. So I completely understand why there was such negative backlash, it was a let down for all the hype YG themselves had built up (but again I not sure that wasn't on partially on purpose).
I think Sheesh is different though and a great start for their potential. It is very much YG while still highlighting their vocal members + having the quality of a title track song. People won't hate the YG formula if it's a good song, you just have to make a good song that highlights the groups strong points.
It'll be curious to see how YG follows Sheesh up. We haven't been able to see much since so many of their groups left, so all we have to go off of really is TREASURE, and YG has dropped the ball so many times with this group it is extremely disappointing. That is why I don't have much confidence in the company to keep the hype going. If they can keep this momentum going though, BM will be unstoppable. When YG finds themselves a special group where all things click, no one can touch them.

Great Reaction Killdeer! BABYMONSTER didn’t win any Awards during their promotion of SHEESH! So YG changed the game for their last two performances on Inkigayo and M Countdown! He gave BABYMONSTER a Live Band and hand held mic’s and made their own Encore Performances!
And non fans started to appreciate BABYMONSTERS Live Vocals! But some hater’s accused them of over performing! Mission accomplished! 👶😈🤘🙏🏻

Incredible talent. You should watch the Making of Sheesh. Pure vocal talent. The producer Choice 37, Robin Cho and his crew raw live tune the girls vocals for the mv. It is completely organic. What you hear in the mv are raw live vocals. The girls will sing again and again in the studio booth until the producer gets the sound they want for the mv. The girls are primed and ready for live stage performances in the studio. That is why the girls live performance sound like they ate the CD.

YG groups get a 7 year contract. It is limited by law. 2NE1 lasted 8 years. Blackpink completed their 7 years contract and have renewed their group contract although the girls have decided to go solo projects by themselves. The reality is if the girls are hugely successful individually, why would you share your income with YG? Or the other members?

like look buddy, i won't be too far on these subject , but lemme tell you this for the only one time i'm coming here, that you're completely free on sticking in your own opinion and stuff, i'm not coming here trying to persuade you onto a certain personal liking, but remember :
these people (like some of the commenters within the comment section under this video) are absolutely in everywhere, unstoppable, they would literally do anything for relieving/achieving their personal enjoyment and trust me, they would never stop doin the exact same things as long as YGE (nor anything that related to these company) still standing (or even for merely existing) in the crowd of Kpop industry

I’m with @kl2894 vocally they remind me of BlackPink but the song structure reminded me of NCT 127. Particularly the two main rappers going back and forth as well as the choreography. Wasn’t expecting Neo vibes from a YG girl group! I’m confused by hot debut thought. I thought they debuted last year?

The song structure is also very much Blackpink (the call and response, the chanting ...), it's even one of the things pointed out most often because it is very specific to YG. I would also mention the "world music" touches (one of the things that annoyed me most about Blackpink's songs).

It's very reminiscent of BlackPink for me. I think the talent is there, but I'm waiting to see what other types of music they come out with. I'd like to see them have a broader discography like 2NE1, rather than focus on a specific sound like with BlackPink's title songs.

They girls are talented, but almost everyone says the song is too samey to what YG has done for years, and that's true. The reason is that they've used the same in house writers and producers (esp Teddy). Another controversy is that the views had the highest number of paid advertising instead of being organic.
They also already did "something different" as they called it with "Stuck in the Middle", its an English song and the blandest copy possible of Hybe's strategy to try to cater to mainstream US audiences.
Im sorry for the girls, but the situation of YGs creativity is devastating at the moment. I hope they recover, because of course they used to be one of the giants of the industry with Bigbang and 2NE1, and Im grateful for any variety that gives some choice and competition in opposition to Hybe.
