Absolutely you have the right to be upset when a man or anyone bothers you. Ugh men it never ends. I was harassed at 17 by a married man who came to the store I worked in and he would harass me while carrying his baby. Men are just gross. Sorry Gretchen. Hugs.

I know medicine helps some people but honestly - I had to stop taking my anxiety/depression medicine because it just made me feel so numb. i wish there was a common ground to help us while still having feelings/feeling like ourselves. sending you love gretch

That happened to me, but then my doctor changed my prescription to something different, and things got a lot better! I recommend trying something new and discussing it with your doctor. Sometimes people’s bodies just react differently to each med.

So many of your vlogs in the past have been my “favorite,” but this one might top them all! Something felt different. I’ve been watching you since the high school outfit of the weeks era, and it just feel like you’re a lifelong bestie or sister :) Thank you for being real. I’m in a similar season of life where reconnecting with my college friends truly feels like home, and that’s something to be so grateful for when it feels like I’m constantly living out of a suitcase. Our friends ground us, and it’s such a blessing! P.S.- I’m moving to Boston for grad school this weekend! I’ve rewatched a bunch of your old vlogs lately because of it haha

Gretchen, something I’m learning in therapy right now is that you can be HAPPY, and feel anxious thoughts. You can be ANGRY but still be thankful for what you have. It is so hard to grasp and understand, but once you accept it, it helps so much. Sending you much love girly, thank you for being so real 🤍

I felt the exact same as you with having good days and bad days. I realized I was having more bad days then good so I started on Zoloft. It has changed my life! I feel chill every day and only have a bad day every few months. For the first few months I felt like on a high being super happy but now it has evened out. Definitely stick it out to get the full positive effect

Re: whole foods situation, feel that! I hate doing anything alone bc I have had so many bad experiences like that. What I do when I am alone and feel like uncomfortable in the situation- pretend I am on the phone or call someone (friends, sister, mom etc) and then they can be on the phone and help if someone approaches! Anyways loved the revolve haul and the brody jumping onto the counter during the haul

Gretchen I’m not sure that you will see this but I’ll give it a shot anyways-I’ve followed you since the GLB days and have always enjoyed watching your blogs (and listening to your podcasts). I grew up right outside of Boston and have enjoyed your growth over the years. As someone who works in mental health and has their own therapist, I can tell you nothing wrong with medication. It changed my life for the better. Hoping that you find yourself in a better space, sending virtual hugs your way 💜

I have GAD and mild DD I totally get those feelings. Medicine changed my life honestly and I weary of it before too. I felt better about it when I realized it’s not always a permanent thing. I’ve been lowering my dosage recently and hope to go off of it soon!
There’s so many factors with anxiety too and being a girl... birth control and everything Ugh it’s a lot!!
Also your interaction with that guy reminded me of when that guy got in your car .. it’s scary being a girl sometimes it’s really hard to just relax

Omg Gretchen I love you so much. I went through a similar experience as you a few years ago and anxiety can be so overwhelming! I literally went to the university health clinic my senior year of college because I thought something was seriously wrong. Take care of yourself girl! Surround yourself with your loved ones and its okay to talk to someone and take medicine to help you if you need it! I do and I know a lot of people who do as well, it is completely normal. Sending you bunches of love and peace! Hang in there

I’m so sorry you had this experience with that asshole neighbor from your apartment! That’s not ok what so ever. But the comment “men never have to feel this way” of course women have to worry about this way more but men do have this happen to them as well it’s just not brought to peoples attention as much because I mean idk the reason why not. But also If you’re not going with max and you’re going to be alone at the apartment don’t say that on the vlog please! If you’re not then I must of not caught you’re going back too lol so I apologize if I’m incorrect. Just my mom mode comment. And also you should tell the building about this guy even if you are leaving soon maybe he’s doing this to other women as well!

Panic attacks stole my life from many years.i read an article in a mag a while back. Girl who wrote it sounded like i wrote it. Her doc put her on Progesterone cream. I did the same and in a few weeks it was like a miracle. I felt wonderful. No panic, anxiety etc. Totally changed my life. Try going to a health food store and checking it out. Amazing what hormones can do. Will pray for you. I lived in torture sooooo many years. This was amazing...I know how all that feels and it pains me to see anyone go through this stuff.

Medicine changed my life. It’s all about finding the right kind and right doctor though. I was over medicated and numb at one point and stopped medication. But then I went back on it this year and I have never been in a better place. I recommend just the very minimum dose of something and find the right one. Takes time but it’s worth it

I have my struggles with anxiety and panic disorder I hear you, meds helped a lot but seeing someone to help work through the attacks and advise on life style changes as well as diet changes was the life saver. I was removed from meds and just used new skills and life changes and feel so much better! Things like making sure I exercise, but avoiding caffeine, sugar, b vitamins silly things like this were helpful for me.

as a therapist, i want to advise trying psychotherapy first before medication! often times the best form of treatment is therapy and combined with meds. you should look at meds as something to take TEMPORARILY. the anxiety-management techniques you'll learn in therapy will be forever

Try a holistic approach first. The problem with medication is that they have so many side effects, which can sometimes cause more harm than good. You do Core, Orange Theory, Yoga, So try a Meditation Class to learn to calm your mind when things get Overwhelming . 😎❤️

I can relate so much to how you’re feeling. I travel for work and as exciting and fun as it may seem on the outside to people I still deal with SO much uncertainty for my future, what’s happening next, what I should/shouldn’t be doing etc. there are truly pros and cons to every avenue of life and I think it’s so important to talk about how you’re feeling! You seem like such a sweet person and I’ve been watching you for a while now- if you can- take life one day at a time, schedule times where you can be alone and sit with your thoughts and write them out or give yourself reassuring affirmations. It’s easy to brush negative thoughts off but in my experience it’s so helpful to truly just be in it and feel them. Medication doesn’t always help everyone- in my experience I’ve tried many different ones and I settled on one that’s really toned down the symptoms but just gotta do what works best for you! Keep your head up gf! Sending love :)

I struggle with anxiety and depression. Medicine has done wonders for me. Each medicine can work differently for others. Being able to pin point anxieties is great for coping with the difficult feelings but i can agree, when you cant do that, it makes it 10x worse. I wish you luck on your journey for reaching a less anxious day to day life!!
Also, I am 23 and also have a really hard time going out by myself. I have been in some potentially scary situations- men, sometimes more than one following my friends and I / myself alone in stores around town. I only go out by myself if i have to and it also makes me feel isolated bc I feel like I cant run errands without my fiance.
You are not alone!!! Live life day by day❤️

My OBGYN suggested going on medication and/or going to therapy. I talked with my husband and we decided to go to therapy and see how that works and honestly, it has reframed my mindset and we do I have been practicing guided meditation. I think talking to someone is very beneficial over just taking medication.
I definitely feel you on the men catcalling! Sometimes I'm self aware, other times I'm distracted. I have taken self-defense in the past, and I carry pepper spray for anything that can escalate. I have never been in a situation like that, but I have no idea if I will have some crazy instincts to kick in or what.

I am not diagnosed with anxiety, but I think everyone can have panic attacks, diagnosed or not. Deep breaths, therapy, coloring, reading, and hugging others are things that help me :)

I went to the hospital 4 times this year thinking i’m having a heart attack or a stroke even. It was very hard for me to grasp that “anxiety” can make me feel that way. and it’s so so scary. I know now that’s what it is and i’m better at talking myself down. But i got a finger monitor that tells me my oxygen levels and it helped me SO MUCH because if i can see my oxygen is good then i’m okay. I don’t understand how i got to this point or why but i have to tell myself that it’s not going to take over me and one day i will be able to come back.

Hi! I got prescribed meds for my anxiety and it’s helped a ton. I lucked out and the first one I tried helped me a ton, but some of my friends had to try different dosages/meds before one worked for them (kind of like birth control). I would encourage you to speak to a psychiatrist / therapist to see what your options could be. :)

I have anxiety and being anxious and having a panic attack or just feeling panicky are just such different things to me when they happen. If I am feeling anxious i as well can pinpoint a reason like travel, big groups something coming up but when I have panic attacks or feel panicky i get sweaty and rushes of a cold feeling throughout my body and feel nauseous out of nowhere. It is just so different and hard to explain to people but totally get it and know what you are talking about. You should look into tapping a lot of people use that with anxiety to kind of bring themselves back to the moment with movement and everything may be something to try and you do it on yourself and there are youtube videos that can teach you how to do it and where on your body to do it. I myself have never done it but find it fascinating.

I know you want to be able to handle it in your own.. but Zoloft changed my life in the best way. I such bad panic attacks that I was scared to leave my house. I didn’t notice any bad side effects once I acclimated to it and have been able to get off it over time and back to normal! Just a thought❤️ you deserve to feel peace

I have been living in Boston for a few years now and this summer the cat calling and overall safety of the city has become extremely concerning as a women. Lately I’ve been frightened to go anywhere by myself even during the day.

This sounds a lot like Generalized Anxiety Disorder. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (changing the way you think about situations) is helpful if you get a chance to try it. It does take a lot of time to change engrained thought patterns but it's pretty neat if you can do it.

Also I sort of think if you can survive a panic attack you can survive anything that life throws at you.

I need to tell you this because it's in my heart to tell you! I don't know what your religion is but those anxiety attacks are from the enemy the devil! He causes those things to block you from your purpose here! Please pray I'm telling you I suffered from the same exact thing and once I realized what it was and why I was being attacked. I immediately started praying and fasting. Try it I promise you the attacks will go away in Jesus name!

Wait one GD minute!! Did you just say, and I quote, “IT’S ANNOYING THAT MEN DON’T EVER HAVE TO FEEL THIS WAY”?? Excuse you!! Just because maybe men don’t get as much of the harassment or cat calls as some women do, doesn’t mean it’s not happening to men. And since it’s a female doing it, its often blown off or suppose to be taken as a joke, even if physical contact is made. So get off that high horse! Yes, I feel bad that happened to you, but don’t EVER say those of us of the opposite sex are never made to feel the way you do by females. You should check in with a therapist and check on meds too. In your context you also made it seem meds were for others an not for you. Time to really be honest with yourself and not put on this front for the camera.

STOP dismissing womens experience. Women get MURDERED for not giving men the attention they want. We fear for our LIVES - so take a fucking seat

@@Ggriffin11 ok. Womansplain it to me! Share your almighty wisdom with me. You seem to have so much knowledge about the male/my experience. Which part of my comment did you decide "isn’t it”?? You’re going to make that comment, so be prepared to back it up with the facts. I will be waiting for your prompt response!
