- Tunnel portals are important scenery details, which most often is bought as a standard item ready made. Then just as often the portal will be somewhat misplaced, unless you´re modelling exactly the region from where the prototype portal has been taken.
This video presents methods and materials needed to make any type of stone arch tunnel portal to fit the scenery you model.

Well thought out and expertly filmed how to on tunnel portals. I'm trying a variation using joint compung applied to lego bricks. Not certain I can film my process but I'll follow your example and try to yourube my attempt. Very much appreciated. Gary

This is, again, fantastic work. You are going to put the commercial tunnel portal makers out of business.....well, maybe not, because lazy people will always exist! These portals are definitely worth the effort. Thank you!
Fantastic!
Fantastic 👌
Very good DIY work, I like and I have learned a lot with your videos. Thank Sir. Best Regard
Amaizim thanks ❤️❤️
Great work!!!
What a fun guy you are, alway a pleasure to watch your video's, nothing's too hard to do when one follow your tutotials...
I use MDF for creating such portals, use if a Dremel for making level differences, and use the small ttols for creating the stones, looks also very nice, your mrethod of painting is also working for this material. So thanks for giving me alll these nice ideas!
Excellent tutorial. You have given me some very good ideas to try at the club I belong to. Somehow I am the designated "stonework and portal" guy. : )
The creativity and artistry you demonstrate is simply fantastic. Many thanks.
Absolutely beautiful!
genial, como todos tus tutoriales
Great video! Thanks for posting!
Nice video, you make it look so easy.
Great and very perfect video, Thank you .
Thank you ! . very interesting, better than my brick paper attempts for sure. I think the sand plaster you refer to is called Polyfilla here in Britain, so I'll try some of that and thin it down a bit. Cheers and best wishes Chris..
I like it. Its very nice.😁🚂👍
They look great! Thanks for showing how to do this.
Another great video. I have seen many on youtube but have only subscribed to this one! Very clear, friendly sounding and so much practical advice! Please keep them coming!
Excelentes videos.
Very well done. Those looked great..
Great. Only wish you did N scale.
I do not have much room and decided to go with N scale. Hope I am not making a mistake with my choice.
very nice Work - Thank you
You can use also pva glue mixed with plaster. The effect resembles real walls and bricks
Welcome back from Long Island New York....luv the videos
An excellent video, Keep up the good work :)
I just watched your video, it is very informative. I made cutouts for my own Tunnel portals, culverts, reinforced concrete arch culverts, bridges, covered walkway for my planned N scale layout. I’m using the cutouts from the double track Tunnel portals for piers. I’m using cereal boxes, pizza boxes, other light cardboard boxes for my cutouts & building material. The styrofoam & scraps of lumber will be used as supports. I’ll tell others of your video.
great work, thanks a lot.
Fantastic 🙏
very nice
Love your videos. Please list the products you use and maybe a link.
.....thats are great portals!!!! But You can bring a little but of a green wash in the basepoint of the portals to give a shine of moos between of the stones........
lovely greatings from germany
Jörg
P.S.
sorry, but my english is a little bit rusty :-)
Wow! Great work! I will definitely try your methods on my HO layout. I also love Castles and you have given me a great idea to build out of this material! Thank You!
Many thanks for sharing this video!
I am having a go at this, making one similar to one on a local railway. Working in n-gauge though so bit more difficult, I have made it by buying foam board from a hobby shop. It’s a little thin so I had to glue sheets together, but the pva does not seem to be holding very well. So I have changed to a wood glue instead, that seems stronger and dries quicker.
Very good video excellent way of makeing tunnel portals .
I model in ON30 and need to make old concrete portals your way will probably work I will give it a go thank you
That was very helpful, thank you for making this video 👍
It`s allways nice to watch and listen to you. Best regards from Austria :-)

Very cool. I did my painting black with some grey. But I didnt use the moss. Great idea to make more realistic. I will use to see how it looks like. Thanks for the tip. Btw, i love your videos and I am leaning a lot. I also tried the "toilet paper" water idea you showed on other vide. It looks really good. Thanks again. :)
Excellent. Thank You. Those pins you use - can you tell where you found them? What are they called? Amazon?
This is a great and really helpful tutorial. Thank you so much for this they look awesome
Very good video ......
Great tutorial on making Tunnel Portals !!! I will be using this technique to make prototype portals that are on the former B&O Old Main Line.
Barry from USA.
Bravo! Thanks for the great tutorials
It helped me with my project 😍😍😍😍thnk u so much 😇😇
#Love from India😘
Many grreatings from germany. The best tutorial layout, I know!!! I like the simple style of many of your ideas. Thank you and: Keep on! :-)
I didn't have the plaster sand stuff on hand, so I made-up a mix of sand and grey paint for the base coat. I dabbed it on generously with a foam brush. The effects were awesome! I could control the pattern on the stone by how I dabbed and how generously I added the paint/sand mix.
Really impressive results, great work!
Great videos!!!
This was amazing
Absolutely beautiful work. Great dimples too!!!
This is fantastic! It's amazing what you can do with just a little bit of styrofoam!
Second time I have watch this because I was amazed with the results. Why do you cut the foam over the edge of the table since it could break? Does it make a better edge than laying on a cutting mat.
Dominik
Very well done :) :)
looking good ,respekt hi from Frankfurt/M peter
awesome. good explaination! thx for your dedication
Can you make a video for concrete walls under a railroad bridge? This video is awesome!
Great videos my friend, new subscriber
Impressive result. thanks for showing. Do you think this result can be achieved if the scale was 1:160?
Thanks for the great ideas that you give! I love it!
yeah realy nniiiiccceee!!;) ill give you very high thumps up!;). 13.00
Would you be able to use cake decorator tools? Like fondant rollers to make engraving quicker?
Hi Roza! Yeah! That’s a really good idea! The tool needs to cut through the surface of the Styrofoam to get a permanent pattern though. A work-a-round is to sand the Styrofoam surface a bit ahead, then it’s much easier to create the pattern. I must try! 👍😊
@@marklinofsweden in my terrain crafting we use a roller from greenstuffworld that works on extruded polystyrene. You should check them out. May cut your 60+ hours down to a 1-2 hrs. Cheers! and I love your vids and channel! Wish i could come see your build in person, it looks super impressive.
My first thought was to 3d print some sort of stamp that you could press into it.
What sand plaster do you use on the front of the portals?
Minwax polyurethane will seal the foam and insulate it from the effects of solvents trying to eat it. This also applies to the solvents in spray paint as well.
I am building my first MRR at 65 and your videos are my guide...outstanding work, Got any hard copy of your work and skills published ? thanks for the great teaching materials
