All you do to the starter is put it in second gear, handbrake off and push or pull the car until the engine turns over a few times. That should free the starter. Its gone out of sync with the flywheel. PS make sure the ignition is OFF.
After going through all your car videos, I finally caught up with you, and I can watch you real-time now. It seems like you are the Kyle Busch of car rebuild/flip channels, some guys like to talk crap about you or question your moves, but you are certainly one of the best on your field. Keep it up, I love your content. Greetings from Hungary!
Why would ya want to watch this fool he don’t do nothing but yaps his mouth slaps spark plugs and wires here n there n he calls that a rebuild 🤦♂️ Lol
Randy painting it with the Rust-Oleum Turbo black paint. Seriously you could prime and paint it for under 150 all in and you'll like it better than maaco??? macco???
Just take the cover off on the end of the engine, the starter ist on with 2 bolts. It’s about 45 minutes work. The starter ist on the top of the engine behind the intake. It’s really no big deal.
Randy, check your ENGINE GROUND STRAP! Had the same problem, thought it was the starter. Changed out my starter, two weeks later boom same thing. Changed half the vehicle, was the damn ground strap. Check to see if its green and / or frayed, swap it out! I grabbed mine and it literally fell off. Put a new one on mine never had another problem.
Get a length of wood Randy, one end on the starter and at the other end tap it with a club hammer it should free off it sounds like the starter has jammed. Hope this helps 👍🏻 Looking forward to the crazy new paint... I wonder if u were inspired by the Packard hearse the other day!!!
First of all Batteries can go too flat so that you cannot jump start them. So replace the battery. Get one at Battery Mart for like 45 bucks. Also hit the starter with a hammer not really hard but some pretty good bumps. Have someone start bumping it with a hammer while you try to start it. The battery is probably so dead it cant be jump started.
Brilliant design, BMW! You have to partially dissemble the car to replace the starter, a part that normally has to be replaced, along with the alternator and fuel pump. Brilliant!
Im a BMW guy and work on a ton of E46’s and own many. The exhaust only has 8 studs/nuts per bank. Check a set of OEM gaskets and you’ll see where you should have studs and where you shouldn’t. It looks like the person who installed the headers used the garbage gaskets that come with those cheap header kits. You really need OEM style gaskets to prevent leaks. I bought Fel-pro from my local advance for $33 for both by using the code “coupon25” for 25% off (buy online, pick up in store).
Randy, you could maybe get that great local mechanic that you used a few times before. You and he worked on one of your trucks in your driveway. You could do it together so you could both curse it at once but get her done 😊
*you ought to get that thing ready for paint, scuff it up with a scotch brite pad and hit it with some etching primer so all you have to do is drive it into maaco and pick a colorand have it back in a couple days. take off your headlights and once you get there your tail lights and windshield wiper arms and antenna and let them have it like that, you could pull it down there on the dolly even with all the lights out of it*
@50skid TH-cam channel has a great DIY on the intake job. I did it and it was not too bad. It took me under 10 hours to remove the intake. Once it’s off you have access to the vacuum lines, CCV & coolant hoses if you want to go all out on preventative maintenance. - It would be a great video!
I figured you would paint with original color. Nothing is worse then looking at a vehicle then realize under the hood and door jams are different color😷 Love ur vids Randy 👍
Did you try applying power directly to the starter? Would help rule out a wiring problem. Or hit the starter with a hammer a few times, see if it is stuck....
Hi Randy. Sucks they buried the starter. But hell it aint that bad. For me anyway. Thats what i do. Anyways, try turning the engine a little. Probably corroded wire or cable at starter. Its a very common problem. Cant wait to see the loud paint. Also try tapping on the starter with long extension and hammer. While someone works the ignition switch?
If u changing the lights u could upgrade to the face lift version withe stripe rear lights n front edge triangle white indicator lights however it requires fenders to be changed but it picks up the look big time I have a friend who did this to his 330i e46
i haven't registered with copart yet but i have found a flood vehicle that i want. i was wondering if you can inspect a vehicle that is not up for set yet and if there is a way to tell when it mite go up for auction.
It is possible, too, Randy that the battery is so dead it is beyond the point of being charged or boosted. I hear and read the e46 requires a lot more power to start.
Too bad he doesn't have an air hammer that would pop the starter loose. Personally I'd try a block of wood or pipe and a sledge. I see his point on the outsourcing of the job. He is making content for the channel....he needs all the hours he can get. Plus if he can get a mobile mechanic like he did for the F150, then he don't have to tow the car in. Still hate this car and can't wait until its sold/traded/blown up.
I sometimes wonder if Euro manufacturers have a team of experts working on ways to make everything more difficult to repair and ways to sell more specialsed tools with each new model. My friend had a BMW m5 that needed a gearbox pump every 40,000 miles because "that's as long as they last". First one was $5000. When second one wore out, now rare so $9000. Sold it soon after
Randy this guy shoplifevlogs is a BMW specialist he may have what you need and give you tips on It. Suggestion do a series on the BMW, nice content 👍👍👍👍👍
So what did the State say about your Dealership ??? I saw people where recommend to pus or pull it started . The starter could have a bad spot on it too just don't go to wild on it you got hit a few times on either Vechicles . But it good that you could be working with a neither UTUBER helping each out to grow and learn . But you due good Vechicle work when you what going on . Diagnostic work is very Frustrating in it's own can you check a starter with your diagnostic tester .?? Like you said you can't keep everyone .
Could be the solenoid on the starter try giving the main body of the starter motor a knock with a hammer used to work many yrs ago when I was mucking around with the cars all else fails get a 2nd hand one at the breakers yard
Joys of older cars but great the feeling of getting them back on the road again.. Be a nice little run around for someone. They don't build them like they did any more
If you're going to do something 'wild' with the color at least make it elegant. Don't paint it purple, pink, yellow or orange. Saw a BMW on the VinWiki channel where a girl had it painted half black and half white. It was distinctive and stood out without looking garish.
That doesn’t sound like a starter, sounds like an extremely dead battery, even if it says 12v doesn’t mean the battery is good and sometimes even if you jump start still doesn’t mean the battery is any good, just a thought good luck
I’m a certified tech and I know these euro cars, and seen lots of weird issues caused by a bad battery that somebody thought was good just because it had 12v, cells go bad in batteries
I’ll help you with the E46 if you want. I’m not a professional mechanic but I have fixed all my own stuff for years. Let me know if you need some assistance.

yes, this will probably solve it. we call it "hit it in second" here in Turkey
You may be right but this is an automatic, so you're probably have to turn the engine over by hand.
If its std. trans. If auto, turn engine by hand. Probably needs a starter, or mabye corroded connections (wires) at starter.
@@stevewaller6577 Shame

Hey Randy put a socket on the bolt that hold on the crankshaft pulley and turn the engine if it turns your problem is the starter or loose connection
Theautobahnn, you are correct. Exactly.
Sometimes you can tap those starters if you can get through there and it will start BMWs are notorious for that
Love those German cars. So easy to repair said every BMW mechanic never.
You can change the starter without taking the intake out. I did it once, no problem.
Just take the cover off on the end of the engine, the starter ist on with 2 bolts. It’s about 45 minutes work. The starter ist on the top of the engine behind the intake. It’s really no big deal.
Yes. Probably easy fix.

I just done exactly the same job today. But I've installed original kats and complete exhaust. Before that the car was way too loud for Germany!

I got 2 front seats in black and door panel too
The issue may be the the wire that connects battery with the starter. It is very popular in this car

Hey Randy, sounds like a badground cable for the engine. Do a volt drop test from engine to chassis ground lug. Probably going to be high. Simple fix.
It’s not a starter if it’s cranking and getting power. Maybe it’s bad fuel pump replay. Or any other relay
It is possible, too, Randy that the battery is so dead it is beyond the point of being charged or boosted. I hear and read the e46 requires a lot more power to start.
You don’t run jump packs through the battery on BMWs. Go to the posts on the motor. You can cause bad things to happen to the electrical
What is the first step on getting my license or I don’t need one help me please🙏
Try to hit the starter
yes wack the starter with a hammer. NOT kidding either. not super hard but kinda
Good idea if you can get to it...
Love your channel Randy keep em coming I'll be giving you a thumbs up in each vlog...
Sucks that it doesnt run now i feel for you😆
Randy! What's up... feeling good this morning
BMW original color of... "Sakhir Orange" 😉 yeah that would be perfect! Beautiful, Wild, & bit different, but still a factory color...
Can you get to the starter from the bottom?
Randy, good move to get some help with the BMW.
Could be great content.
Cheers

Hi. Hes probably super busy. The mobile mechanic.
He moved to another state.
Randy what ever happened with that 92 SL500 Mercedes that you couldnt get ro run right.? I know it went to Weird Beard,
Did you check the fuse from the batery witch is in the main power cabel. It is a bmw thing. Your main leads are not actualy working as they should.
Help in Mustang, OK. Does anyone remember the name of the Mobile Mechanic Randy used about 8 months ago?
He moved to another state.
Wrap it in chrome with orange wheels would be class

I guess I'm not in the clock ,I can't get Instagram ! But thanks for letting me know !😀
Hit the starter with a wrench if you can get to it. Once you hit the armature should engage...........hopefully.
I wish you showed the blend door repair.
That's blend door

I got a fun lil project for the Beamer.
How did the inspection go for the dealer license?
Follow his Instagram. He's approved.
Sounds like a voltage drop to the starter. Possible engine/chassis ground?

Don't think he could get to it without removing intake. So just thought second gear rocking method best.

I can’t wait until you take it to macco for paint
If you hit the starter with a hammer does it start?
Randy can you do a vido of cleaning the BMW
Sounds like you're having some really good luck. But hopefully it goes up from there
My mind is blown that the studs weren't all broken off!
I was literally blown away that all of the studs went in with no real issue as well.
Paint it BMW's santorini blue with some 18" gun metal colored bbs style wheels that way you can keep it tasteful but loud at the same time.
What can go wrong will go wrong, everything takes longer, that is life.
I lost the link for the car freshener you use. Please add that again.
Randy whatever happened to your mobile mechanic friend that did the brakes and rotors and everything on the old silver Harley truck
He moved to another state.

Nice work on the header bolts and dang I sure wish it would have started I wanted to hear it run with out leaks. Are you giving up now?

Door cards? ! In Michigan we call those door panels! Lol...

Hey Randy
Hope your state inspection went well. ✌️
you got this randy , another great video , you inspired me to start my own automotive channel
Paint it a crazy blue color!!!!!
Hope you can fix it, I will enjoy the new color on it. 😀
Wrap it a wild color like chrome red or chrome blue
Try jumping the solenoid with a screw driver, you probably have a bad armature, brushes or both.
Hope you didn't put the jump pack on boost on the battery. You'll never get the SES light off unless you do a EURO delete on the emissions.
Bright pink paint and pink wheels and then give it to your fiance lol

G'day, Is it possible to hit the starter?
The battery is shorted.
Starter hit with Hammer tap tap.
If the car is a manual put it in gear and rock its back and forth and that should free off the starter!!
That won't work because the bendixen drive is not engaged.
Hope you get it fixed
I'm bored of OE paint too, can't wait for the LOUD paint job on the BMW 😁

No, don’t make it a ricer, please. Stock and original is the way to go.
Really hard to think which colour would suit this. Everyone's saying green ild disagree I think purple would look nice.
WELL ?? Did you pass inspection for AAR HQ??
uuh i want this bmw so much :( live to far away
