I'll give a bit more in depth description about the technique I used for the this eye drawing tutorial that wasn't mentioned in the video.
The pencil I used for the undertone throughout most of the drawing was done using the 6B Graphite pencil. This was not sharpened to a point this helps avoid pencil marks and unwanted dark patches. You can also cover a wider area easier and quicker when the pencil isn't sharpened.
It helps to know when to use a sharp point and when to use a rounded point. For picking out fine detail a sharp graphite pencil is needed. Preferably a hard pencil such 1H, 2H or 3H.
You will notice I used a sharp pointed graphite pencil towards the end after all the shading had been done. This does two things.. it blends the charcoal, while also keeping the texture. We don't want to lose too much of the gritty quality of the charcoal as this is what gives the impression of textured skin. But the video isn't really about how I did the skin it's about shading and blending the eye. So I won't go too much into detail about that. That could be for another video.
If you look at the end of the video I polished off the iris and the whites of the eye to smooth everything out. Always remember that in most cases the whites of the eye are never trully white. If the whites of the eyes are too white it won't look natural. So when people look at the eye drawing and the white is too white it will look off. The audience won't know specifically why it looks off they just feel something isn't right.
It's important to really understand how to draw the eye and how to shade as the eyes are the first thing people will look at when seeing a portrait.

This is absolutely stunningly amazing. I am a beginner and found it magical to see the image come to life. I just got to see this video today. And kindly Pardon my silly question but your style of shading is sooooo much different. It is not like the light strokes and I watched it multiple times. In normal way i thought we stroke it and then blend the shades.. If i understood it correctly you are actually dabbing it with pencils and dabbing with so much accuracy that additional shading is not required. Looking at it takes so much precision and accuracy and seems to have taken lot of time . Its just magical. Thank you for sharing.
