- BUILDING MANCHESTER PICCADILLY IN N GAUGE - Making the station Concourse 1
The printer has been busy over this past couple of weeks, on at every available moment, which… my time has been quite tight, each major section took many, many hours to create. Glad it’s done now. Also creating details such as ticket barriers, advertising, info screens and so on
In this video I:
• I outline the progress of this section at varying points of the build.
• Explain some issues I encountered and what I did about it.
• Demonstrate couple of techniques I use.
• Showcase the build to the point reached.

Wow!you are putting a lot of detail into this, it all looking great....thanks for sharing 👍👍👍👍👍
Excellent results John, even if it was a bit of a palaver it was worth it in the end. I am a little disappointed however you haven’t got the the ticket gates to open and close!!!! Lol! It’s great to see you go into so much detail John, you remain a great inspiration mate, cheers John, John
Lol, thx John Ive managed to source 36v motors 0.1mm x 0.0063mm (amazing) for ticket barriers and each plastic person will be able to operate them with real tickets ha ha ha
Lol! I look forward to you cutting out N Gauge tickets! Have a good day John👍
Im sure you said you were setting up a factory to make working N gauge tickets with micro-chip fitted too, lol
🤔😬lol!
Morning John,
That looks good but very fiddly, credit to ya
Excellent as always!
Wow John it looks awesome and the detail really makes the station pop. Take care - Kevin
Wow John! Absolutely amazing. So much tiny weeny detail. So impressive. Thanks. See ya next time.
top work John and the detail is stunning. The 3 D printer is coming in very handy and allowing you to design and make bits that you cannot obtain in the shops etc ........Enjoying the series as i always do .....
Thanks Paul, most definitely and it quicker. There is a place for my former methods, but choice is useful
The concourse looks ace John. A job well done. Susannah
That is of absolutely unbelievable quality - you just keep getting better and better. Honestly John, your deftness and patience whilst cutting those numbers was beyond belief. As always, thank you for sharing with us.
Glad you liked it Ian, always a pleasure to ‘help’
Nice work as always John, you say it is going to take 16 hours to print, but to build from scratch would take longer and the shape would not be so smooth. So it the right tool for the job. Look forward to seeing the train coming and going. Bye for now, take care, stay safe, and have fun.
Hi Carl, thank you. I could make the pieces from scratch, ie card or plasticard, but the finish would be more random and clearly not as strong. The printed version is incredibly strong and creates a nicer finish. Yes each part took between 10 - 16 hours to print, but this means Im able to do something else, so the print, in theory, speeds up the process. Thanks for taking the time to comment
@@piccadillymodelrailways Do you trust the thing enough to go to bed and leave it printing?
Brilliant work.
The results you are obtaining really are very good John. The platform level shots really gave a feel of being on a station. Very enjoyable to see this starting to come together. Stephen
Thanks Stephen, Ill have to try smaller cameras though, the phone is simply too big lol
John I never stop be gobsmacked by your skill and attention to detail. It's brilliant John!
Hiya John. Great update . The glass fronted concourse looks great and after my trip to Manchester 2 weeks ago I can say you have got it just about right 👍👍 would have tried to get a few shots but did not get much time as I would have missed my train to crewe . Must say you are getting a bit of a 3d printer wizard 😀. Stay safe bud and look forward to the next video . Got to get back to my next repaint project . ( a DB Class 90 in n gauge of course )
Thank you, please dont worry. When I went I had to get permission from Network Rail. Ive got couple of mates who work on railways and they can get pics and not get questioned. Thanks though
Great video mate, getting Piccadilly spot on with the details, yeah the escalators are roughly in front of platforms 10 & 11 which lead down to the metrolink and taxis.
Thank you, thats very helpful. Muchappreciated
@@piccadillymodelrailways no worries need any help with other stuff about Piccadilly drop me a message 😀👍🏻
Very realistic - your capturing the feel of the real Picadilly. You must have the patience of a saint to do such fiddly work. Very well done John. Cheers Euan
Hi Euan, patience naaa, these parts were quite big, easily hold them in the hand. Now the ticket barriers Ill need a microscope lol All part of the fun
An other informative stream. looking forward to the next one. stay safe.
John - I am blown away in the detail you have acheived with the station concourse and the eye level view is very realistic . If I was Keith from the Great Pottery Showdown I would be in tears bye now to quote "Bloody brilliant " ...............Cheers Kev
Lol, thanks Kev, thats so very kind of you. Im just having a bit of fun.
Wow, going all out with the detail John, looking good. Messing around with 3D printing is enough work in itself! John
Lol, its quite easy to use once youve got the hang of it
Very impressive!
That just looks absolutely brilliant, more justification for the 3D printer, I look forward to you eventually populating the station with crowds of Northerners, I bet you're not so much
Ha ha ha, well populating the station will, errrm take….. a while lol
A masterpiece in the making John. Fantastic stuff! I am sure you'll find a way of making the ticket barriers work! 😁
Amazing attention to detail John....stay safe, regards, Chris
Ah what a great video to watch on Sunday!
Nice video John the station is coming together nicely. I love the use of the 3D printed items it really gives the station a customised/personal look and it looks fantastic when you added the clear glazing signage platform numbers ect.- Nicholas.
The ticket barriers are only from platform 1 down to platform 7. Then the rest of the platform entrances have revenue ticket checkers.
Station is looking good m8 nicely coming along, Fab update catch you soon
Hi Tim, thankyou, keep missing your streams then see the catch up video. Want to be there but dont know when youre on lol
@@piccadillymodelrailways as I been doing my photography I haven't had a set time. so I am going to lay off the stream for a bit :)
Ok fair enough, the photography is your bread and butter after all.
Great stuff John. Finally catching up with your videos! Looks terrific mate despite the issues with the printer, etc. Going straight to the next one 😜👍🍀🍻
Ahhh bless thx, think I know what’s wrong with the printer, got to try few bits
Love the video .So much going on .
congratulations on your channel and the footage, your videos are great, today I posted on the channel another video of the locomotives of the logistics route here in Araraquara sp- Brazil, thanks.
Its going to be a masterpiece John, i can see it on the front page of one of the magazines.
Thanks Chris, very kind. We’ll see on the magazine front. The whole layout is a bit of a mess at the moment, sooooo much to do.
So realistic John well done I swear I just seen a pigeon on the platform 🤔
Lol, hmmmmm a pigeon you say? Hmmmmm a pigeon in erm N gauge lol
Great video John and your station building is looking brill, just a shame about the amount of advertisements. I think there were 5 or 6 lots, in a 14 minute video that seems a bit OTT to me. All the best Paul.
Hi Paul, glad you liked the video, we as creators dont decide on the adverts, we have some control, but its YT
Yes! Very convincing.
Thanks for sharing.🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃
Hi John,
😀😀☑️☑️🚂🚂📽📽😂.
Cheers Robert.
Hi Robert, thought you may find this useful or helpful. th-cam.com/video/pJO7LlNHqnc/w-d-xo.html
If I win the lottery, you are defo on my list to help build my dream layout 😂. I just need buy a ticket. But serious question.. if likes of Denis Waterman offered you a job.. would you take it ?😂
Hi Alan, lol, very kind. Denis Waterman? Chance would be a fine thing… lol
We are allowed to dream after all. 😂
Ticket barriers only go to platform 7
Hi thanks for your comment- yes…
Hi, I've just been watching Canal Boat Diaries on BBC4 and he has just passed through Piccadilly Locks in Manchester and thought you might be interested, I beleive the canal runs alongside the station ? Great modelling, as ever :)
Oh fantastic, never seen the canal diaries but it’s amazing the amount of canals England has. Ive heard it said of Birmingham - it has more canals than Venice
I do like your printer, Was it expensive? I’ve been interested for a while.-Das Mann
Hi Das, I got it from Amazon £265, but things can change. Just checked and sorry they have gone up a bit £275 now.. Shop around never know. Don’t forget to buy a decent filament with anti stringing. (c£30ish) a cheap filament will be a nightmare. I buy Eryone matt PLA its in another league to my first purchase. We live and learn
Okay thanks John.-Das Mann
