  • Phil Jones, an Indigenous Soapstone Carver from Garden River, Ontario, wants to regentrify native culture in today's landscape. With 30 years of Soapstone carving under his belt, Phil's artwork can be found all over the world.
Phil also strives to bring about systemic changes that equip Indigenous youth with tools to reconnect with their Indigenous heritage. According to the 2021 census data from Statistics Canada, more than half of the children in foster care are Indigenous, making up 53.8% of the total. As a Knowledge Keeper at Nogdawindamin C&FS, Phil works with Indigenous youth, providing guidance, cultural teachings, and tools to help them explore and cultivate their Indigenous identity.

This is beautiful work, but the dust is dangerous for your lungs, they should be either using a dust mask or keep it wet 🫢
