Anyone on the fence - Fez is worth the money. trust me. Amazing soundtrack, great attention to detail (animations wise, sound, critters walking around) and great, total sense of pure exploration. There is a friendliness to the game in both its visuals and mechanics, and it's sharp as a tack in the gameplay department, but the best part is that it finds its identity by being simultaneously eerie and creepy. There is a sense of loss in the game, but it's never seen. TLDR - buy the game.
5:40 "with its poor map construction" Are you fucking kidding me? The map is incredible when you look at the physics engine with it. This guy could never make a map nearly as good as this one.
The game never hard crashes, there are scripted moments where the game breaks the 4th wall and pretends to crash but thats about it, also the level design is perfect, it had to be for the game to function properly, you're probably just bad at the game. ;)
Finally played it on vita. Ive got 40 cubes and have seen the first ending. But i dont feel like continuing, ive played it for 7 hours or something, and now all there is left is the frustrating puzzles, ive solved some, and some are fun, but the real draw for me was the first hours spent with the game, i wanted it to just be a platforming collecting game, now i instead leave with a mindset of "ow that couldve been so good" but the ways the puzzles are made is just not fun. Even if you learn the language and the crypt thingies. Theyre just so hard to read and when i know how to solve someting but the game is pushing me away anyways i just want to put it down. But i absolutely loved the first few hours.
BOTH!If you can't afford both it really depends on what style of game you prefer,as a puzzle/platformer FEZ is brilliant,as an overthetop physics based motorbike game TRIALS EVOLUTION is also brilliant(even though I prefer the original Trial Hd)you can't go wrong with either.
I am. It's just the block moving puzzles that cause it. They're pretty glitchy and annoying. One of them, I solved by accident and it didn't need to make sense.. overall the game is pretty sweet, though.
Yes, the industries that are only concerned about taking your money. When you are an employee you are instructed to be polite to virtually everyone, because some people will get offended by just about anything, and that would make you lose buyers. A lot of indie devs don't need to worry about it, because it's not about the profit, people who like your game will play it, and those who don't won't, and if you can live with the money you get from that then it's ok. It doesn't make you immature.
The point of my comment was that "old games" were challenging, and not a cake walk hiding behind cinematic moments, lasting an average of roughly 6-10 hours (if that), and Major game reviewers are forgetting that fact. do you disagree? If I'me labeled as a "wannabe hipster" by some random person on you-tube, simply because I enjoy the older generation gaming. than yes, I'me listening to The Black Keys with my Fedora and non-prescription glasses.
I had it freeze during the fake crash scene at the beginning of New Game+, ironically enough. Just because you have two arms, doesn't mean there aren't any amputees in the world.
if the puzzles aren't explained or even slightly hinted at basically leaving you with the daunting task of learning an entire new language and decoding and deciphering then yes you can complain actually
I am sorry I judged you, but my point is that this game isn't as challenging as most games where back in the 8-bit era. The only similarities Fez has with old games are the graphics. Nobody should listen to the major game reviewers, they are usually biased and often paid to give a game a good score. You are entitled to have your own opinion, but I only see this game as a platforming puzzler with a 3D "gimmick", and that is why I don't see the reason this game get som much praise.
I find it ridiculously absurd how you people keep quoting this around like that, something he said to one specific person. I wonder how you guys would have responded if someone kept insulting you on your twitter page for apparently no reason and saying the work of your life sucks, before you even released it. He was right to shove the prize on that guy's face.
Ok, so your reasoning is that, somebody hated and deliberately attacked Fish, and by responding he showed that bad comments could affect him and bring him down (wich is true for everybody, you denying it or not), so yeah we should all attack him since now we know he isn't trying to convey he is on a superior level than everyone else (wich some people say he does, and attack him for it), he doesn't deserve respect because of 1 comment. Ok then.
This game looks like everything Super Paper Mario should have been. In Super Paper Mario, you can switch to an alternate angle, but there are randomly items that you can't see in the 2d version, whereas FEZ makes more logical sense.
You are supposed to separate personal feelings from business. If you don't, then you stand out as unprofessional, at least in the eyes of other people in the industry. I am not a hypocrite, that is just how virtually every industry works.
It was really unprofessional of him. That somebody kept insulting him doesn't justify what he wrote on twitter. It just shows that Fish is really immature. It would be much better of him if he kept his head held high.
GameSpot doesn't see what gaming is about, they look at what's good and what's bad about every game.. does anyone rememeber when you powered up your system, the only option was start. And the game would play. We didn't know about the secrets if the world, we couldn't look up how to get through a level. You're only option was try until you get. That's what I feel that the creator of this game was aiming for. The gaming industry needs to step back and remember what Gaming is all about. (Fun)
I didn't mean that you can't have an opinion, but you said that Fish shouldn't have acted unprofessionally, and then you go and do exactly the same thing.
I don't think the problem is with the score. I personally would have rated it higher but the review is entitled to his opinion. However the production of the review video is terrible, especially the crappy music played over most of it, not only is it not from the game, it really jars with the overall tone the game and original soundtrack are trying to set. Kind of misrepresenting the experience as a lot of Fez is about the ambience. As well as using the in game glitch scene to mention crashes!
"What a terrible reviewer"...."This game is CLASSIC 8BIT...An NES game that should have been)...." Tom McShea must have always had his MOM buy the Player Game Guide with the GAME"...
So this is on XBOX Arcade? That's weird, because I clearly remember that they showed a game just like this at E3, back when they were introducing the PS3.
lol yep that sure is ironic now i wonder if anyone has had it crash or freeze in the gitch level...now i sound like a jerk , anyway i understand your point
man dont even worry about it i see comments like these all the time, the review can get a 9 or a 10 and you will see some jackass in the comments saying it was a bad review and that it should have got a 1000000000000/10! i think most of them are just trolls!
All this "it was really unprofessional" speech sounds really hypocrite. I always found it funny that when someone makes a product they're not supposed to act like people anymore.
Do you even know what a physics engine does? The only real physics in this game is the gravity. I hate people that has no idea about what they are talking about.
By the way, you just responded to griscoe420 exactly the same way. Oh but you don't have any kind of work getting praised by a lot of people, so I guess for it's ok.

TLDR - buy the game.
"Hard crashes are prevalent"?
That crash? Was a scripted event. Has this guy even played the glitch level? That was awesome.
/end rant
5:40
"with its poor map construction"
Are you fucking kidding me?
The map is incredible when you look at the physics engine with it.
This guy could never make a map nearly as good as this one.
FYI: The crash at the beginning of the game is on purpose.
wait... at 5:25 did he really refer to that part as a "hard crash"? that was part of the freakin' game!! it was supposed to do that!
The game never hard crashes, there are scripted moments where the game breaks the 4th wall and pretends to crash but thats about it, also the level design is perfect, it had to be for the game to function properly, you're probably just bad at the game. ;)
LMFAO he thought the crashes weren't planned!
I'm pretty sure it's illegal for me to watch this, since Phil Fish isn't getting all the ad revenue for this video ahaha
Finally played it on vita. Ive got 40 cubes and have seen the first ending. This looks awesome. Definitely downloading this tonight.

I wear a fez now. Fez's are cool :D

"Poor map construction and baffling puzzles"
Never review anything again.
The point of my comment was that "old games" were challenging, and not a cake walk hiding behind cinematic moments, lasting an average of roughly 6-10 hours (if that), and Major game reviewers are forgetting that fact. do you disagree?

Considering Fez was made by one guy, this is absolutely insane. Fucking incredible!
if the puzzles aren't explained or even slightly hinted at basically leaving you with the daunting task of learning an entire new language and decoding and deciphering then yes you can complain actually

haha i bet the reviewer actually thought the game crashed on him in the first 2 min of the game lmfao
FEZ IS ON STEAM, HAVE FUN
I find it ridiculously absurd how you people keep quoting this around like that, something he said to one specific person. Ok then.
Fez looks like a ton of fun, it is taking so long to come out though.
This game looks very interesting to try. I like a good challenge :)
It was really unprofessional of him. That somebody kept insulting him doesn't justify what he wrote on twitter. It just shows that Fish is really immature. It would be much better of him if he kept his head held high.
yeah but this game was in development since super paper mario came out, so i don't know if the idea came from that.
I wear a Fez now. Fezzes are cool.
GameSpot doesn't see what gaming is about, they look at what's good and what's bad about every game.. does anyone rememeber when you powered up your system, the only option was start. Finally Fez is out, can't wait for the steam release :D.
paper mario is the original idea where this game has it's roots from
should i get this or trials evolution??
Is it on Xbox or Playstation or all?
fez from that 70's show is what i first thought of :P
whoa, did they get rights for an aphex twin song at the end there?
I didn't mean that you can't have an opinion, but you said that Fish shouldn't have acted unprofessionally, and then you go and do exactly the same thing.

8.0 is a fair score, I think 7.0 would have been a fair score also. Personally, I give it a 9. :)
"What a terrible reviewer"...."This game is CLASSIC 8BIT...An NES game that should have been)...." Tom McShea must have always had his MOM buy the Player Game Guide with the GAME"...
why is it only gamespot that says the puzzles are frustrating and boring?
They should release a map editor! Thumbs up if you agree.
So this is on XBOX Arcade? That's weird, because I clearly remember that they showed a game just like this at E3, back when they were introducing the PS3.
I don't think a simple misunderstanding on a single detail is basis to judge.
3:11 - 3:22 The secret is "YOU WERE PLAYING MINECRAFT ALL ALONG MWAHAHA!!!"
lol yep that sure is ironic now i wonder if anyone has had it crash or freeze in the gitch level...now i sound like a jerk , anyway i understand your point
man dont even worry about it i see comments like these all the time, the review can get a 9 or a 10 and you will see some jackass in the comments saying it was a bad review and that it should have got a 1000000000000/10! i think most of them are just trolls!
seriously? this guy was basically complaining that this is a puzzle game...
how much is this?
well, you know what they say. . . fezzes are cool.
Could this guy be any worse at reviewing a game?
All this "it was really unprofessional" speech sounds really hypocrite. I always found it funny that when someone makes a product they're not supposed to act like people anymore.
How was it a bad review? It got an 8.
Do you even know what a physics engine does? The only real physics in this game is the gravity. I hate people that has no idea about what they are talking about.
Seems very Paper Mario-ish... Not that it's a bad thing.
your petition was met, yay
Indeed it is my dear captain
The game crashes in many other places. Polytron has a patch coming very soon to fix these problems.
By the way, you just responded to griscoe420 exactly the same way. Oh but you don't have any kind of work getting praised by a lot of people, so I guess for it's ok.
that 70's show?
because the character is wearing a fez
The only fez I know is an illegal immigrant from the 1970's
His name is Gomez.
Finally Out!!! Great!!!
On ps3 aswell?
at first i though this was a review for my vids you can imagine my disappoinment
Is this on ps3
Tie's are even cooler.
Huh. I haven't experienced any crashes.
Are you serious? You judge a review and a reviewer all based on a single detail?
Did he just list hard puzzles as a downside? Thats the first sign of a bad reviewer
@CYFilmStudent Just Xbox
.....says the guy that doesn't know the difference between "your" and "you're".
If you look at the title differently it looks like re2. weird
It's a fez. What? Fezzes are cool.
Free for ps plus.
This game can make you become very dizzy.
So is your spelling, but I'm not complaining.
