when I was a young man, my friends and I never missed the APBA Gold Cup on the Detroit river.
As I grew older, we traveled throughout the Mid-west and over the years saw many Unlimited
races.
Back in the day all the Unlimited class ran either a Rolls Royce or Allison 12 cylinder WWII airplane
engines with Nitrous Oxide. They earned the name Thunder Boats due to several boats coming
down for a flying start was really loud as one could imagine.
Today's modern Unlimiteds are not nearly exciting to watch IMHO, due to the lack of noise.
The newer turbines are much too quiet for my enjoyment.
When I was punk kid living in Ballard many years ago, my dad would take me to go watch the hydros run on Lake Washington. Miss Budweiser, Atlas Van Lines, Circus Circus…it was a mix of turbines and the Allison’s. Glad I found this. Never had a pov like this. Nice. 👍
Loved going to Seafair!
I'm guessing that was knocking on 200 with a death wobble.
Looks like a death trap at this point . Very unstable in relatively calm water without wakes from other boats . Looks like it needs a little more fine tuning . Walking the dog at high speed is a sure way to end your day if not all of them . But I guess you know that already .
Moderately choppy water will actually stabilize the hull, because the chop provides damping.
What was the spray inside the nozzle early on in the run. Asking for a friend?
Water injection, the mass of the water increases maximum thrust. B-52 bombers use this to get aloft when carrying heavy loads.
un-burnt fuel maybe ? Idk I was wondering the same thing!
Fourth run looked like a better ride than fifth. Good so see you out there. Good luck!!
That shroud being crooked bugs me.
yeah it's so annoying to look at
It is possible that the motor is canted a little to the left, on purpose to negate the motors torque?
Nice run thanks for the ride!
@@clayz1 thought of something like that too before making comment but that would be the mechanicals, not the bodywork. But I could be wrong.
@@clayz1 No it has nothing to do with torque control, shroud is just not a critical item.
Two thoughts:
1) This is obviously one of those ya gotta know what you are doing situations.
2) To the trend of hanging 6 outboards off the back of a boat, a nice twin turbine inboard setup says "hold my beer" 😂
That rockin back and fourth was not good
That is what CATS and HYDROPLANES do !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They rock back and forth, its okay.
Damn that's fast and smooth
Fantastic camera angel I love it…..
I wish my Spirit airline flight took off as quickly as that. We'd still be sitting at the dock idling for another 45 minutes.
Can't wait to see you at Hydrofest
Fun job
Bad ass.
i think he went to ludicrous speed or maybe he went all the way to plaid.
It sounded good but to compete if have to fight that duck walking could lead to backwards summer salt . Hell that's why it's pre-season testing to figure that stuff out . Good Luck guys and have safe racing season this summer, see ya at the end of July.
