This is true. I've been sharing at least one video a week on TH-cam for almost 7 years and my income each month still doesn't even cover a week's worth of groceries. This said, without TH-cam, I wouldn't be getting traffic to my Patreon, website, etc., where I am able to make a living. I see it as an investment of my time, and a way to build my audience while providing free value for people, instead of paying for advertising. It's also a much better platform than Instagram and social media, where posts are gone in a second. Here on TH-cam, if you create valuable evergreen videos, you can have people subscribing to your channel for years to come. And because TH-cam is part of Google, you're also easier to find online. TH-cam is also a search engine and not so much a social media channel, and if we strategically treat it as such, it's definitely helpful in growing any type of business. The problem is that lots of people fall into thinking that they can start a TH-cam channel and that this, in and of itself, is a good business plan. It is not. It is a way to grow your audience, build connections, gain experience creating valuable videos for people, and to market your products and services. Thank for the video!

Long story short. I was dreaming about becoming a TH-camr and getting paid gazillion $ per second. After a solid month of research got so excited about all the successful people in the field, decided to buy ThinkMedia course for nearly $4k. Spent 1 solid year on trying to develop my channel in the blogging niche and my result is 200+ subs. None of ThinkMedia mentors tips were helping my videos, at some point I started to think that I am super ugly and people don't want to look at me.
Then I just dropped this idea and deleted all the videos. Stopped thinking about YT and started to learn game developments. 2 years after I am happy having a good job that pays my bills and smart people around me.
Will I give a YT another try? Probably no. TH-cam is not the best time invesment and not the best traffic funnel you can find. But I will try to complete some video editing projects for some TH-camrs just because I am very interested in video editing.
Paulius, thanks for a good video 🚀 🔥

It depends on what was your blogging content about. If you're now a game developer then that might be something that you could also run a YT channel on a side with it.

@@Tell.Me.Something It was a Casey style video blog about living in London. Running YT channel is definitely not a "side business" or "side option", simply because of how much time it takes to produce 1 video being not a "talking head" footage. I'd rather prefer to play MK1 with my wife just for fun (she beats me badly) ✌️
Anyway, thanks for keeping it positive ⭐

@@alexdefiI don't wanna be rude, but I will shed some light. We watch Casey Niesta because he is an excellent video creator + story-teller who is wealth and live in New York. Also he was a professional video maker before enter youtube, he basically level up the online vlog game. You can't just be a successful vlogger like Casey Niesta by being an average Joe living a normal life, there's need to be something about you that the audience want watch over and over again. So, if you don't meet any of the criteria that Casey Niesta has (like being a good storyteller, living am exciting city like NYC, going cool stuff, and being pro video editor), you pick the wrong form of content.

TH-cam is hard because its like running a business. Aside from offering value, having experience in making videos is necessary in this creator business. I learned that the hard way! It took me about 1500 hours of experience in making videos to finally learn how to make somewhat decent content for my audience. I'm not sure how many people actually have that type of patience and persistence, which is where you get the 10% statistic of channels with 1K+ subs. 9-5 is necessary for the paycheck, but if you don't have to live near a major city and you are comfortable being a minimalist, this path is for those who don't care about making big paychecks straight away. This path is for people who value creativity over money.

Very good advice Paulius. Trying to find a balance and doing TH-cam is no joke. And I don't even have a 9-5. People might look at my videos thinking oh that probably takes her 20 minutes to do. Where infact it takes me more than 10 hours per video to do. And if I'm not doing a video I'm thinking of ideas for the next one. And I recorded my videos when everyone else is sleeping. They lack the energy in front of the camera, they are not patient enough, they dont put in the work and they are just too scared. You also need to be really really strong mentally, as TH-cam is soo much pressure. So, it is really hard to be that person, but if you are, you can go fulltime usually after 1-2 years.

It is true. There are a lot of youtube channels that are successful with hundreds of thousands of followers and they tell people to buy their courses on how to grow on youtube, but the whole reason their channels are big is because their topic is how to grow on youtube, and they just make the same videos over and over again because they focus on ranking their videos and the youtube algorithm. The straight path to unhappinesss and burndown. Following their advice may not necessarily help, unless you plan to make a channel on how to grow on youtube 😅

I appreciate this video. I am on year two and almost monetized. It has been a loooong journey of grinding and consistency just to get to the very basic 1000 subs. I have lots of watch time and lots of views, but it is still slow-going.
However, it is also a beautiful thing to be able to have a platform where you can express your talents and/or knowledge. I heard another TH-camr once talk about how you know you are doing the right thing when you can't stop doing it. Perhaps that is the lesson here. If you love what you are doing and you are not doing it just to have a job, then the outcome will not matter as much and journey becomes more enjoyable.
Admittingly though, it would be a dream to make a few dollars to help pay for all of the costs associated with running a channel. My family gets frustrated with how much I spend without a return. But, again, I can't stop! It's in my blood now. TH-cam is amazing even if you don't make much money.
It was nice to hear a realistic side to it. Thanks for doing this video. It is so good that those who want to start...understand how long and difficult the journey can be.

I started a youtube channel as a way to sell my courses for English. I realized that I wouldn't be able to rely on youtube as another way to make money though as advertising for non-English speaking audiences (outside of France, Germany, Hong Kong maybe) pay pennies to what English-speaking countries earn. Keeping up with making good content and consistently uploading was a job on its own. It also could be a liability for future employment or privacy/safety concerns. With English teaching, I didn't care if future employers saw that as it was professional, but it makes me not want to do travel or personal vlog type videos as people could be judging you over anything you say or do in these vids and in the US you'd be "canceled". Though I love watching your videos about Barcelona because I used to live there and miss it, it's just not the type of content that will make a channel blow up. If you're not trying to sell anything (tourism in BCN for example), I would only do it with the expectation that it's helping me grow in my content creation skills. I'm only saying this because I too have thought about doing a channel like yours, but it wouldn't be worth the effort for me personally. Currently, my channel to teach English to Spanish speakers has less than 1k subscribers because I quit making videos after around 6-7 months into it when my channel tanked after initial success since I stopped uploading for about a month due to morning sickness. I think I'm going to start up another channel, but for a US-based audience and have it be about a topic in the corporate world to help me get freelance clients/get hired. I don't think youtube is a good thing to bank on for anyone wanting to start a channel. With more creators joining everyday, everyone's earnings continue to go down.
I will continue to watch your videos about Barcelona though so I hope you don't stop making them!

I guess it's a personal preference. You see it one way and I see it another. We can agree that WE ( you and I ) will never understand each others way of thinking, and it's totally ok. I'm constantly mentoring to individuals that if they're not a hustler by nature...keep that 9 to 5. Find something you enjoy doing so it's not a burden to show up daily. Benefits (retirement, medical, dental, short term, long term, and accident insurance is very expensive So if one is willing to pay 100% verses half because they can....then have at it. 😉

The sunset is a metaphor that fits the tone of the video. Proof of concept - very important. I'll add this - the goal should never be merely success on TH-cam itself. Rather, the goal is to lead a community of interest, and then use content to develop and accomplish that. You softly fall back on 2%, or 1 in 50 chance of success. That's actually not a bad probability, but I agree, not enough to forego an income. Last point - I agree, don't buy a course, just make videos, you will learn more. (If you MUST learn something in a course format, there are amazing, inexpensive options on Udemy and Skillshare.)

I was thinking of making a same kind of a video because I see so many influencers selling dreams like everyone can get rich overnight from you tube and it bothers me. I am monetized and I haven't made more than $6 so far since then and I don't think much will change for quite some time. People should make content and try to get monetized but don't expect to be a millionaire as soon as you do.

Oh-gosh , allot of TH-camrs start off as rich kids, really! It takes a lot of money to be a filmmaker, and a lot of creators have •money• and are well off on cash , even living with people who have a lot of cash or cut them a break

The smart way to go about this is to just make content while still working your 9-5 job until maybe one day your TH-cam channel pays you more than your 9-5 job. Then if you want to quit your 9-5 job, quit. Theres more time in a day than people realize, you just have to be willing to give some things up in order to work towards your goals.

    • @PauliusCreates
      @PauliusCreates  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Totally, shifting priorities and going about how you use your time is key. Giving up certain things is also something I probably should have brought up in the video. Because definitely, it takes a lot of time to make videos and you could be spending your time doing other things ( which in some cases might be bringing more joy ).

I agree with that. The quality of your work / videos reflects how much effort/ time you invested in your channel. The time frame to become popular on TH-cam definitely will stretch out for a person who work 9-5 and treat TH-cam as a hobby instead of a full time job. I rather you quit your job and go all in for a period of time and if you fail just go back to 9-5 no big deal. I don't even think you should associate TH-cam with income source if you actually treat it as a hobby cos it drains your energy over time for like let say 6 years. @@DBlegacy-tp3sb

I agree with the premise, but those stats about how many subscribers the average youtube channel has is waaaay out of context.
Over 40 million (¬35%) of those channels included have uploaded a whopping 0 videos. Wouldn't really count that as a youtuber my self.
I wouldn't count any channel with less than 10 videos actually *trying* to actively be a youtuber. I'm not sure how many more channels this culls, but it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if it brings the total down to ¬30 million channels.
This means that '2%' with 10k+ subs is much closer to 8%. Which sounds very reasonable odds to me.
Many of these channels make very poor videos (by standard metrics, no shade to them learning/having fun/trying something new).
Same as any other skill people dabble in.
I wonder if you framed this in other fields (ignoring things like acting/sports) what the stats would look like:
How many professional photographers are there compared to amateur?
    Hobbyist coders?
    How about chefs?
I'd honestly expect the numbers to look very favourable to youtube if put that way.

    • @PauliusCreates
      @PauliusCreates  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

yea you bring a very good point, that I didn't investigate further just mentioned in the video that large volume of those channels are not necessarily active.
Your estimate of active users is pretty accurate, what I found on www.wyzowl.com/youtube-stats/ it says 36mil so 2mil with 10k is around 6.25%.
I think it's still pretty low number considering that this is not niche specific. But rather a global number. It would be interesting to see stats per niche with numbers, but I don't expect it to favour youtube though.

Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God"
Everyone is going to die one day and after death comes a place for all sinners called hell which is eternal torment, but there is no need to fear because we were given a savior 2,000 years ago and his name is Jesus, so trust in Jesus today as your savior from hell. Christ is the only solution to the sin problem in our world and the eternal penalty as a result, which is ultimately part of our nature passed down from adam and eve due to their rebellion against God.
The good news is that there is a savior from the penalty of sin that God the father sent, and that is his only Son Jesus Christ, born of a virgin and without a sin nature like the rest of mankind. The father established the Old Testament law, which was morally perfect to show man's imperfection in attempting to keep it. But Jesus, being perfect, kept the law perfectly, thus fulfilling the law. However, he didnt just fulfill the law, he also died on the cross as a substitute for all mankind's sin. The penalty for sin is death, so God sent his own son to pay the penalty for Mankind so we dont have to go to hell.
The lake of fire is referred to as "eternal/spiritual death" so when Christ died for you and me, he satisfied the father's wrath against our sin. Afterwards, he was buried and then rose again after 3 days, conquering the grave. He did this so that mankind can recieve eternal life as a free gift, all you have to do is believe it was done for you.
The gospel of john states "He that believeth on the son hath everlasting life, but he that believeth NOT the son shall not see life but the wrath of God abideth on him." Believe in the original Greek language translates to "pistueo" which means to entrust, in this case, to entrust ones eternal destination to Christ. Ephesians 2:8-9 "for by grace you have been saved through faith, and not of yourselves it is a GIFT of God. Not of works lest anyman should boast." Simply believe what Christ already did for you to receive eternal life. After this, you are given the righteousness of Christ to be just before the father. Romans 4:6 "just as David also speaks of the blessing of the one to whom God counts righteousness apart from works"

@Prego307 It is about taking less risk. You could try youtube as a part time thing while keeping your regular job. It is like the usual advice people get when they hate their job, which is to look for another job first before quitting. We all need money to survive, so if you quit your job to start a channel that might take a while to make you any money, unless you have a lot of savings, how would you pay your bills?
