    Don't know if you'll see this now being its 2019, but i am watching and am completely intrigued by the series and already can't wait to watch more. Thank you for these set of videos, it captures a lost time in history as well.

      When he said it was "35 degrees outside" I thought he meant it was a hot day, but 35 degrees in American units is actually a rather cold day. Adding the conversions makes things much clearer. 👍

    I see you’ve been blessed by the TH-cam algorithm for whatever reason. Me and a lot of people seem to be binging all these old videos. This is awesome, it’s something I’ve always wanted to do but after seeing all this I doubt I’d ever have the money or time to do so. I’m quite impressed with your fortitude. I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone take on a project this big more or less on their own, especially considering you don’t just have unlimited time and money to just go at it non stop with a whole crew of contractors and whatnot.

    Awesome content! Up until now I really had no idea just how much larger L3 was in comparison to the other two levels.
    I imagine projecting an image of space on the dome ceiling at L1 would look amazing!
    Cheers as always for these videos.

    The sewer tank you are referring to is a "Sewage Ejection Pit" with the sewage ejection pumps. Also your sump pumps dumping into them would have not been allowed in a commercial application. I have worked on many old buildings that had this type of system, the float switches would fail a lot and caused stinky work to repair.
    I just found your videos and have binge watched all of the in one night. Thanks for sharing your progress...

    I know were not supposed to "ENVY" our neighbor, but i can't help it. I was a maintainer at McConnell AFB (82-86) and wish I would of had the forethought to buy a site and do what you are doing. On one hand it makes me sad to know the "Titans have left the building" so to speak, but it's so AWESOME to see you preserving part of our past. Greatest respects and thankfulness to you and your family!!!!

    I'd really think carefully about spiral stairs. They save some space, yes, but are much more dangerous in addition to being much slower and more difficult to use. Is it worth saving the space for something that might irritate you multiple times a day, every day? The existing stairs, blasted and painted, seem pretty nice and would probably fit great in the industrial aesthetic of the finished place. Of course, it all comes down to what is practical.

    With a rusty metal primer, or any primer, you have to coat it afterwards with a top coat of paint. When I worked at Lowe's i had several customers come in with primer issues such as this one and you can't just leave the primer on itself. It's not meant to be permanent top coat.

    hey guys for the door and other outdoor metal you should be looking at marine paints. The kind they use to paint metal hull fishing boats etc.
    bonding to metal and resisting moisture is literally what they are designed for.

    • @GTsTitanRanch
      @GTsTitanRanch  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! I have quite a relationship with the local Sherwin Williams and I think this is what we've talked about. The outer door will get moisture but the inner doors won't. So the question is... what color? I've always wanted a red door. :-)

    • @hogfry

      Death Wears Bunny Slippers any realtor will tell you a red door helps with the resell value of a home lol!

    I know this is 3 years old, but have you guys thought about using something like truck bed liner on some of that exposed metal? It's supposed to be very durable, and is designed to adhere to metal.

    You might be interested in a paint called POR 15, it stands for paint over rust (not lose rust though) goes a very long was, only cons are its doesn't like UV and you can't easily paint over it, in saying that it comes in colors and you can hit it with s hammer once dry, would be good for your steel work you don't want to sandblast

    • @GTsTitanRanch
      @GTsTitanRanch  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That sounds very familiar. Will have to go look at what we used.

  • @helmutweikert3054
    @helmutweikert3054 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I'm curious. Are you planning on installing an Air-Intake system with NBC filtration capability? Are you planning on making the place survivable in the event of a nuclear incident? You could use the silo for long term storage of weapons, food, water, ect. Are you planning on installing an independent power generation capability, and if so diesel or just batteries charged from local grid? What is the length of time you plan on prepping for? Three months? Six? One year?

  • @Mike_Malloy
    @Mike_Malloy 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    You mentioned in another video Level 2 was higher than the cableway after removing all the equipment. The was because the springs contracted. In this video they look extended again and looks like Level 2 is even with the cableway. What did you level the floor out?

  • @ADiabetic
    @ADiabetic 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    It is crazy to think about all the progress you have made over the years. Level is so much bigger than I thought. One question how does the heating system work?

  • @j-man72b72
    @j-man72b72 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    7:00 I would be tempted to have a big mural painted on the dome of level 1 of a sky and trees and mountains, and perhaps a city skyline, that would help with the claustrophobic feeling of being underground.

    • @GTsTitanRanch
      @GTsTitanRanch  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've never had anyone be claustrophobic down there. It's quite large and open. We do plan on having some TV "windows" as well as a planetarium projection on the dome level. That should make it feel more above ground.

  • @jacobkorbe8729
    @jacobkorbe8729 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    have to say very impressed with your project and very curious about it also. so many questions and ideas haha can only imagine how you feel about the whole thing. Personally my curiosity about the silo is driving me nuts!!! there are a couple decommissioned and abondoned missile silos near me in Colorado/Wyoming but I have yet to go visit them myself but planning to do in the future.

    • @GTsTitanRanch
      @GTsTitanRanch  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just be careful Jacob! If you haven't already, you may want to watch all of Ep05 before you go. :-)
      I know if I open the silo I start tinkering with it. Which always costs money. Which takes away from finished the current project. :-)

    • @jacobkorbe8729
      @jacobkorbe8729 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Already have the safety equipment for it and double checked after watching your video also these silos and everything are opened and have been for years from the looks of it though there are some videos from previous adventurers going in it on TH-cam which I wouldn't mind getting your opinion on before or if I go see it for myself

    • @jacobkorbe8729
      @jacobkorbe8729 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha true but the silo is still gonna drive me crazy till you get in there but $$$$ and time is always a issue with every project so I completely understand where your coming from idk if I could stay away from that side as long as you have

    • @GTsTitanRanch
      @GTsTitanRanch  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jacob - I'm not a safety expert but will help where I can. My biggest concern is having a good air meter. So if you have that, great!

    There is a series of books by Hugh Howey starting with "Wool" that I think you need to read. They are fictional novels about the distant future where the earth is poisoned and people live in these silos. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed them and we don't even own a silo. ;)

    Another excellant video. There was a fella who turned an Atlas F into a home and he hung some type of thick material on his walls to cut down the echos. Though I am sure that even just filling the place with furniture will help to cut it down. Place looks amazing and I am very jealous! Maybe I'll have to buy one myself, dig it up, and ship it to Australia (kidding)! Are there two entrys into the escape/vent tube? One on L3 and one on L2?

    • @GTsTitanRanch
      @GTsTitanRanch  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The official entrance is on level 3. Level 2 has a horizontal tunnel to it just like the escape but this is where the ventilation system went. Future video... :-)

    Thanks for keeping these coming, I really do love to see this transform.
    You did the paranormal activity theme in this video, it's creative content not forgetfulness ;)
    Have you had any strange contacts from gov. agencies or anything since posting these videos? I know I was shocked you could even own one when I first saw it, I'm sure there's at least one over zealous paper pusher out there that thinks this is a problem somehow.
    Also, how's the dam holding up?

    • @GTsTitanRanch
      @GTsTitanRanch  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No contacts from the government. The site was turned over to civilians before decommissioning so its not like they are worried about anything classified. And, I'm not the first person to do this to a missile silo. From all I've seen, mine should be the most "home like" but again, other people own and explore them.
      What would be awesome is if they forgot something at the bottom of the silo and they had to go get it. :-)

    I don't know if painting the concrete with anything but a breathing type of paint is a good idea. You will damage it if it can't breathe. That, or building a huge water well at the lowest point so the water drains naturally from the ground around the structure. Obviously it has to be done all around the place, and that might get expensive.

    • @GTsTitanRanch
      @GTsTitanRanch  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you are saying that b/c of the moisture usually seen in basements. This doesn't have this problem. Literally, there is no moisture on the walls. I'm guessing because the concrete is so thick?

    • @Tcuel
      @Tcuel 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Moisture will always move through concrete. On thick concrete the evaporation is faster then the amount of water that can move through.

    • @rylandpage303
      @rylandpage303 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      One thing to consider is that the outside of the concrete shell is wrapped in solid steel plate. (It's a Faraday cage for EMP hardening.) There is actually a Titan II in Tucson that has been partially excavated so the top one third or so of the LCC is exposed and you can see it. If there isn't any concrete making contact with the surrounding soils then moisture ingress shouldn't be an issue...right?

      Death Wears Bunny Slippers do you wanna rebuild that at one point, so that it still works a d comes open like a massive sunroof. What would. Be really cool is to harden the second to top floor of the solo and turn the top into a kind of yard that you could entertain guests in that could be recovered at any time. I know you want to make it a garage, but I think you can probably do both, make an entrance to it in the yard and it all goes below that. Put the elevator on the side or something

    Do most of the Titan II silo's cost around the same amount to purchase or does the condition of the place weigh heavily on the price?

    • @GTsTitanRanch
      @GTsTitanRanch  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most people don't want to sell them so that's the first difficulty. I wanted to buy one closer to where I lived (at the time) but no one would sell. Many people think that one day they'll do something with it. When in all reality, no one (and I didn't either) know what they are getting into.

    The heating and air system is still under contract. What?! What does that even mean. Does that mean they're still contractually obligated to provide working heating and air systems for this facility, even though it was decomissioned?

    • @GTsTitanRanch

      What? I have no idea what I said (and I don't feel like listening to myself again). But no, the HVAC isn't under contract. There isn't a HVAC system in there right now.

    How do you heat this place? What's the internal environment like at this point in filming?

    • @GTsTitanRanch
      @GTsTitanRanch  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Right now we don't heat it. If we close the doors and let no air in it would go down to 58 degrees F (14C) and stay there. Right now I think its about 65 degrees in there but will get cooler over the winter b/c we have air flowing through it. Its quite comfortable in there unless you stop moving for a while. Then you feel the cold. I did some math and I think I need somewhere around 50,000 BTUs to heat it which is very reasonable. But, the heater will probably have to run full time because of the thermal load from the concrete. Its like a huge heat sink and would take years (guessing) to warm up)

    • @chrislord9791
      @chrislord9791 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It didn't occur to me to think of how long it would take to warm up that amount of concrete and the effect it would have.
      What's the moisture in the air like? Do you get problems in certain areas on the opposite side of the structure to the vent?

    • @GTsTitanRanch
      @GTsTitanRanch  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I"m not quite sure how to vent exit air. Originally it exited through the silo but that's sealed off. Its for sure something I'm working on now...

    • @GldRush98
      @GldRush98 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Death Wears Bunny Slippers so we're these things heated when they were active silos? Or just left at ambient temp? Sounds too cold to live in for me!

    • @rylandpage303
      @rylandpage303 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      GldRush98 -- The original silos had to be kept within a few degrees of a specific temperature to keep the liquid propellants from either gelling up or boiling off. I can't imagine what it cost the USAF in electricity...

    • @GTsTitanRanch
      @GTsTitanRanch  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Acoustic treatments. Something in the center of the dome hanging and something around the perimeter. That's where we'll start and then see how it sounds from there.

  • @neilbrown3359
    @neilbrown3359 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think what you and others that are doing the same thing, is great. But in practicality , this is not cost prohibitive. Maybe if it was free? But I doubt it. But what your doing is cool as hell!!!!

    • @GTsTitanRanch
      @GTsTitanRanch  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Neil. And not sure what you mean by not cost prohibitive; depends on a lot of factors I suppose. Will I ever get my money back out of it? I don't really know; but I think so. :-)

    • @neilbrown3359

      +Death Wears Bunny Slippers Well, the bunkers I've seen for sale are around $300,000 in their decommissioned state. If I had to guess it would take another 200-300,000 to make a home. So $500,000 for the average joe is cost prohibitive If you have the money, then it's a very cool idea!!!! I wish I could have found one and bought it directly from the government. From what I've read, the government sold them fairly cheap
