This is really great - I don't know why there are so few women doing this. I bought myself a pair bc it looked like such a fun challenge. Able to coast but still struggling with pumping. Thanks for the inspiration!
Fun watching the journey. I have a sloping street in front of my house, so that helped. I was most excited when I could pump hard enough to go up a moderate hill. I'm trying to learn switch now and it's like starting all over again. You were right about how good it feels to accomplish goals as you learn.
@@joannaaraiza8685 I mainly wanted to learn it so I could do a 180 at some point. I just want to spin around like some graceful figure skater or something. :)
Thanks for sharing! I've been riding mine for about a month at this point and feel like, while I have pumping down pretty well, there's a lot to improve at and learn still. That first week definitely got pretty frustrating at times. Some multi-day breaks helped me come back to it with a refreshed perspective and rejuvenated muscles.
Update: Been freeskating ever since, and I've never regretted it. They're so fun! Pumping regular is straightforward and easy now, and pumping switch is more challenging but still very doable. There's lots of tricks and techniques I still haven't been able to learn, but just the act of skating and pumping often is fun.
Cool video! I got my freeskates 1 month ago but since it's winter and it's raining a lot I was only able to do 6 half hour long sessions up until now. My process was faster, I would say I looked like your day 10 by session number 5. I think I found better tutorials since 2 year have passed, and also I immediately practiced on a long slope. Can't wait to get back on them and see what my day 10 looks like!
@@joannaaraiza8685 I did skateboard for a little while but it was 20 years ago XD. I've been inline skating on and off for the last couple of years. I also used to practice capoeira and breakdance when I was younger, that probably helped me with balance.
Damn, it took me almost 3 months before I finally execute the pumping properly. I learned pumping without using a slope and it was so difficult. I was practicing on a textured tile floor hall. I am to afraid to practice outside because the road was too steep; I might get injured. My town doesnt have a proper sidewalk too.
Nice work! I got mine a month and a half ago. Also made a short video from my day 3 (it's under shorts on my channel). I didn't make videos of other days though :) I'm kinda surprised, looking at this and other comments that I was apparently pretty quick?! Because in day 1 I could go a few meters until losing balance after practicing for about an hour. I never spent much time trying to balance standing still, because that seemed to be more difficult than balancing while in motion. Day 2 I was able to go downhill keeping my balance most of the time. On day 3 I started trying to make the motion to gain speed, but still kind of clumsily. Also fell a few times. I still have a lot to improve. There was some time between the days I practiced, maybe that helps with the fatigued muscles... Even now, I still notice that I get much worse at it once my muscles get tired. But riding switch I'm still going nowhere (worse than day 1 in my regular stance 🤣)
Thanks! Before you started did you have any experience in another sport where you built similar muscles? Maybe skateboarding? For me, I felt like I was making a motion that I had never done. I couldn’t believe how sore it made me.
Thank you so much for the video! I just started a week ago and your vid reflects a lot of my own progress. My inner thighs are currently killing me right now! Here's to getting better!
Im at day 5 basically, where the S movement seems just out of reach and frustrating. Im glad to see it will just come as long as i keep trying and dont give up.
@@joannaaraiza8685 Ive managed to S move my front foot enough to stay on the skates, super slow, but still working on the back one. Im not yet there, but i feel that all i need is repetition and my body will eventually click. Thanks for asking!
@@joannaaraiza8685 About 5hrs in .. its coming along abit. I can go 300/400 ft but lose momentum once on super flat ground. Can you go around the park without stopping much?
@@jitpunkia I can go around the entire park twice. I've timed it and it's about 3 times as fast as walking. I'm still not super fast. I've seen some people get some real speed, but I prefer to just go at a pace that is comfortable for me.
My ability is still about the same. I do bring them with me when I travel. I altered my backpack to carry them (so no extra luggage fees). I think I'll start taking videos of me using them places when I travel!! Thanks for the feedback.
Just got mine, first day trying to ride. My toes are killing me. And I can't stay on them for more than a few seconds. So definitely looking kinda bleak and futile.
Just now seeing this. I can relate!! My inner thighs and my calf were the worst. If I didn’t stretch my calves, they would cramp up. Definitely find a yoga video with some good leg stretches if it’s still bad. How’s it going now?
I really appreciate these learing videos. They show that it doesn't happen quickly. Some of the tutorials I've watched make it seem like you learn in like 20 minutes which is really unrealistic. Have you progressed to any tricks yet or are you focussed on using them for transportation?
Glad you enjoyed it! I felt the same when I watched a bunch of videos before buying them. I haven’t progressed to do any tricks. I’ve just been able to go longer distances. I’m super impressed with the people that can do the tricks!!
I been practicing for about 2 weeks and still not much progress as I can't have the momentum of moving my feet. So frustrating. Wondering its my problem or my inline as mine is made in China cheap skate products
The thing is that snakeboarding doesn't use the muscles in the same way. In freeskates you have to pump without your legs moving too far apart which requires the rider to hold his legs near to each other because if you don't it will exhaust you more. Moreover the snakeboard doesn't require you to use your front foot as a "motor", you mainly use your back foot
I will NEVER understand why a grown up person who supposed to be aware of the consequences of their own actions would choose Not to wear a full protection set, especially considering they obviously have a family that relies on them...FFS, WEAR A HELMET...

Don't giving up seems to be the key. Thanks a lot for the motivation. Greetings from Germany

Joanna, I loved the video. I think I can do it now. love Mom
Super helpful video. Thank you
haha I also had the thumbs with scratches and damaged, and never realized it was because of taking wrong the skates
what do you mean there werent detailed tutorials there tons

Hi there! What about local parks that have a smooth walkway? That’s pretty much what I’ve done. Also, sometimes you can find nice sidewalks downtown.

How long are you practicing? I did one hour a day. Each day my legs were sore so I know I was building muscle in order to do the movements properly.
This was informative! Are you still riding your Freeskates?
I don’t practice as often, but I like bringing them on solo trips to get around. I’m bringing them to west palm beach in a few weeks!
One thing a lot of tutorials never mention is the burning on your inner thighs 🤧
I feel this . The S motion is harder than rocket science .
Right?!?!?
Just pretending you are snake and you are going to be just fine...You should be on right pavement from beginning 😂😂😂
Your back leg needs to more work, front leg is doing everything.
People from 90s just laughing watching this video, because we had snakeboard, which is very similar and we didn't cry so much as you...😂😂😂
