Absoluely agree. Doesn't have to be complicated. Miles really knew how to create moods from modes. Doesn't take complicated stuff to do that, but heart and soul.
Sandra..... thanking you for your generosity of spirit through sharing your knowledge and insights..... You're doing so makes the world a better place.
Dear Sandra 1000 thanks for this video with excellent explanations, as always .... I hope you are well I see you a little pale but maybe it's just the video. A hug.
Thanks for another delightful post. My favorite version of this tune is by Jeremy Steig and Denny Zeitlin on an album from the 60s titled “Flute Fever”! Jeremy really does a job on his solo!! It was on Columbia!
Love it,took me 7 minutes at most too nail..also took on your over the rainbow and wonderful world which were more challenging but love to play...love all your lessons
@@GuitarversumSandraSherman Thank you, jazz chords are very challenging but rewarding when you get sequences right, love the chord melody lessons still working on All of me...
Yeah I'm buzzing around. I'm a faithless hussy watching your videos then buzzing over to Jazz guitar with Andy and Jamie Holroyd and a few others. I like to get different interpretations of tunes in! I'm a busy bee 🐝 haha 😂
Hi Sandra, i'm one of your french afficionado. Congrats on your teaching skills. Do you think you could break down Mile's choruses and make a video on them ? Many thanks.
Awesome! Been having a hard time trying to figure this out . Now I know that the secret is in the drop D. You make it look so simple. Thanks. Just subscribed.
Thanks Rob! It can of course also be played an octave higher, without the drop tuning. Or as someone suggested, who watched Larry Carlton play it, you can exchange the first note (the drop D) to an Ab (which is a sub V substitute) and play it an octave higher. But I like the low bass of the Drop tuning 😊
I just learned this a couple weeks ago... but not with the cool drop D trick, which I really like! Since then I've been trying to work on soloing on this so a follow-up video on that would be MUCH appreciated!
Thanx for sharing this classic one. The definition of modal is definitley so what. Great job Sandra, once again. Can I ask you for a favour? One of my big wishe is to play giant steps in a good voicing on the guitar. I mean I can play the chords how it‘s written in the realbook but I miss the right voicing some how. Is there chance to get that?🙈🌹
Late night, getting caught up... great modal jam tune! I was listening to Kind of Blue on vinyl just this week. Timeless👍. I like the drop D approach, Sandra... I think you did that on a Herbie tune once too? Hope you’re well!
Thanks Victor! ❤️ I don't actually bother about the thumbs down anymore. Waste of energy. I rather focus on the heart warming comments I get, from people like you.
@@GuitarversumSandraSherman Exactly, focus on the positive, it's clear to see when I look at the comments of the followers that your doing something right, your channel is the best for Jazz guitar, stay safe ❤️
Thank you for this fantastic material about possibly the most iconic song in jazz, or at least one of a few. But I could definitely pay attention better if you weren't playing such an insanely beautiful guitar! WOW!! (Are those flat wound strings?)
Another of my favourite themes. Along with the minor pentatonic and the Dorian mode, what other scales would you advise me to use for the solos in this song? Thank you very much Sandra
The melodic Minor is great for this. D melodic minor is basically like dorian, but with a major 7th. Use it more for ascending runs, while using the dorian scale for descending phrases.
It's possible to play the bass line head with normal tuning in D dorian by a trick I saw Larry Carlton do. You just sub the first note (D) for Ab as a grace note into A; perfectly ok as it starts on an off beat....the jazz police won't arrest you.

Thanks, Ben for stopping by. Enjoy the jazz ride!
Thanks once more fron a bass player (grrr some people still need us) who is starting to play some jazz guitar tunes due to your great lessons. Rafa
I love the low end 😊
Thanks!
Cool trick with the drop D!
As Spock would say "It's only logical" :-)
I love it. Thanks!

Thanks, my friend. I think I did the color grading a little too bright, but I'm generally a little pale 😊
I hadn’t thought to drop the low E string to D. I’d been playing the bass line an octave up. Great idea!
Yeah, both is if course possible. There's also a hack with playing the low G on the 3rd Frei of the (standard tubed) E string.
Thank you for this very useful lesson Sandra. Always a pleasure to follow you ;)
Thank you! ❤️
this tune is so cool, and I got it watching for the first time, thanks for this lesson
Glad you discovered Miles :-)

Bonjour, Alex! They demonetized this video, so no, I won't make another video on Miles original music.
OK. No probs. This encourages me to do it by myself. It will take longer but be more beneficial. Thanks anyway.

Oh yes, Miles' bucket mute on vynil is the best! Yes, I don't shy away from tuning the E string down occasionally.
Nice and easy rendition of this Iconic song, many thanks Sandra, see you still the thumbs down fan.

Hi Sandra, Request for "Here’s That Rainy Day" when you get a chance. Thanks. :)
Great suggestion! Love that tune. ❤️👍
Puedo ver algo en el dedo anular de tu mano derecha. Espero que no altere tu técnica! Felicitaciones!!!!
Jeje. Gracias, pero tengo ese anillo desde hace 22 años. No siempre lo uso cuando toco la guitarra.

What does A1 and A2 mean in jazz guitar?
That's sections, like Verse and Chorus in pop music.

Hey, that's cool, thanks!
How do you comp over this tune.
Over a soloist? Use different Dm group chords and create rhythmic clusters, like in a Big Band.
@@GuitarversumSandraSherman are group chords chprds from the scale.
From the cmajor scale.
I don t know about the drop d is that really necessary. No
thats great but what about the rest of the tune. i m sure there would be people that would like to see you comp over it.
Thanks!
