As someone from SEA, East Timor does hold a particular interest from me along with Philippines, Myanmar, and my home country Vietnam. I think East Timor is the second most concerning country. We could see a petrostate collapse in real time in our own neighborhood. Brunei in particular should also be extremely alarmed.
One of the largest oil and gas reserves in the world discovered under Timor in the 90's. Nek minit, Aussies and Kiwis invade Timor L'Este. The oil has to be shipped back to Oz for refining. Interested to see how the dream is fading?!
Australia and East Timor should establish a special economic zone for manufacturing on their island. Utilise the cheaper labor, have very low tax (better than the current no tax). Possibly use the gas for chemical production or electricity. Work together to make that place rich. Even get Indonesia onboard.

Jab at the Poms at the ten minute mark seems gratuitous. A sour note out of place.

You kidding? Australia only interested in the offshore oil near Timor, Timor's closest and largest trading partner is and has always been Indonesia.
@@briantarigan7685 Yeah, we need a better government.
