OMGosh -- your first attempt came out splendidly I think!!! Maybe I'll ask at our local meat market to see if they have any beef fat. . . and then look for a recipe. I've often thought about trying to make goat's milk soap too. There's so many projects and things I want to try with limited time. I roll my eyes when people say they would be so bored if they didn't work or were retired. I don't think I'll ever have that problem 'Course I'll never be able to retire either!

I think for a first attempt you did a great job!!! Rendering your own tallow. You go girl!!!! Keep soaping, I know you are a pro by now though. 😊

Not bad for your first attempt. That was a year ago. No doubt you've gotten more experience and are much more comfortable with the routine. How did the soap perform?

Yes that is true! There are many soaps that irritate my husbands hands and he LOVES this soap! It is suprising how soft and creamy it feels! Thanks!

Hello! It is going great...the soap performed wonderfully. The only bad thing was that friends/family love it so much I am always out of it! I will be posting some new soap videos soon..thanks for watching!

I need to get that Lye from the hardware store, it's fairly cheap and makes alot of soap. The kind I made I heated up the mix and put it into a mould when it was ready, and when it cooled in a few hours it was hard soap.

Thanks! I was really nervous about using lye also .... but it was just fine! I had no problem whatsoever! You should try it!

Can you try to make candles from scratch? I would love to see how it is done and you seem to have great sources! Thanks!! :)

love your soap! Good size batch for starting out...looks beautiful, you have picked up sooo much already. ..l love Misty's video too. :) ♡ You can grate those trimmings, in 2 or 3 weeks, and add a little borax, washing soda, and oxy clean type brightener to your shavings, give it a good stir, and use 2 T. per load to 1/4 for larger oversize loads
I just wanted to remind you to please wear your p.p.gear while soaping, particularly when working with the SODIUM HYDROXIDE. CAUSTIC SODA, LYE....is
considered a dangerous substance in Canada, that Canada Post will not have it, we have to get it at a hardware store, or order it from soaping suppliers and have it delivered by UPS!
so, GOGGLES from Brambleberry if you want cool ones, but I THINK I heard on SOAPING 101 that you can get goggles at the dollar store..? very reasonable! and rubber gloves are essential. if anyone has an issue with latex or rubber gloves you can get a different type, perhaps not as good but some protection is better than none. Recommend Tina M. of Natural Soaps and Suds; her lye safety video is a must do before attempting to work with lye. Also Ann Marie (Soap Opera) ♡ also has 4 great starter videos. and: SOAPING 101 has a lot of information on soaping, including the saftey videos. They all cocer working with Tallow, and there are many
formulations for you to try till you get your own recipes!
Im looking forward to seeing your next soaping video, you're a good , natural likeable personality for this! and Id love to hear abour your bar, and if it was sudsy, and mild?

I had to buy mine online (CA) but you might be able to find it at a small hardware store. Just tell them you are going to make soap...good luck!

You need to bang the mold on the table to get the soap batter even in the mold. This recipe is great.

So after aging for 3 weeks, how did it turn out? Would you make any changes?

  • @whiskandbowl

It has to be 100% sodium hydroxide. You can sometimes find it at hardware stores near the drain cleaner, just make sure it is 100%NaOH.
You can also get it online like from Essential Depot (.com)

It turned out great! I have given some away and people really love it. In fact, I have some friends that have issues with their skin and love it so much they want to order it from me! The only change that I would make is to add a little more scent to it. It still smells good but I like a little more. Thanks for watching!

    • @PretendFarmerGirl
      @PretendFarmerGirl  5 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes! It is amazing! Your skin feels really soft because all of the lotion properties are still there. I love it!

I was thinking that soap is cheap at the dollar store, but maby loaded with chemicals and fragrance, but if you can use used oil its worth it.
