*spoilers ahead* I haven't watched the donghua S3 yet and although many scenes are changed/put together (without ruining the original novel), but if they're following the novel this faithfully, the Guan Yin temple was actually a brothel before, which was Meng Yao's birth place. Since Wei Ying is the Yiling Patriarch and pioneered the demonic cultivation, he can 'see' the dead spirits and their memories . The brothel burned down and many prostitutes died then. Those dancing women are the dead prostitutes.
