Thank you for this. Really interesting. I've seen lots of examples of Victorian fashion plates and illustrations, but I had no idea the roots of fashion magazines went back as far as they do.

ooh i love that editing at the end, it's subtle and simple but it really conveys a mundanly-esotherical vibe to the way you present yourself

Oh I love research videos!! Mostly because I'm horrible at it but also I have so very many questions. I was very surprised to see just how old vogue was!

Congratulations on your books and videos - they are really great. There is so much to take in that I find the music really distracting. Maybe it's just my age!

This was so interesting! One suggestion - could you lower the volume of the background music next time? It was pretty hard to focus on your voice during some parts..

I now watched a good number of your videos and they are brilliant and I look forward for more. I'm not sure if you know about the Lipperheidsche Kostümbibliothek in Berlin, I went there for searching fashion plates and styles from 1880 for the dresses I wanted to sew. A friend of mine and another lady took and collected photographes from the fashion plates of the Petit Courrier des Dames and made already four books from them, the next book is now offered for the period from 1821 to 1825. It is only printed in a small number for a special circle of collectors, I'm one of them.
I think the fashion magazines were for example used as an idea what can I make, what will fit me, can I use up this fabric I have on hand etc. the same way as I use a modern magazine, too. Many greetings ❤

Disseminating Dress has been on my to-read list for a while, I somehow hadn't connected the dots and didn't realize you wrote it !
It's a bit sad that Bloomsbury still doesn't ship to the US, it makes ordering the books a bit of a hassle (and they publish so many great books on fashion history !)

    • @SerenaDyer

Bloomsbury ship to the US from their US site, I believe: www.bloomsbury.com/us/disseminating-dress-9781350181021/ Hope that works! They should also be available from any other bookseller.

@Serena Dyer I have two left hands apparently cause I meant to type about shipping to the EU ^^ *covers head in shame*
I did find the book on Abebooks though so... it's on its way !

@@SerenaDyer thank you. It just seemed to be at the same volume as your voice. My brain tends to hear music more easily than words.
