I like how X just kind of pops up with the Ultimate Armor. I remember fighting him as Zero for the first time, just thinking, "when the heck did he get THAT?" Then, "why couldn't I have just beamed down to this room like he did?"

Then X6 happened and screwed up the continuity to where it’s unclear if X6-8 is part of the main timeline or where the timeline splits into the Command Mission timeline.
7 and 8 are treated as canon by ZX advent. However, it's still a big mess because we have no idea what in the world happened to Axl. From what we know and what is implied, he somehow merged with Wily(Maybe, I think?), then vanished for a few centuries and then came back as a Livemetal after the Zero series ended...all offscreen. And no idea about command mission, I know absolutely nothing about that game.
No No you got it wrong that's EXACTLY what X did : a desperation move...if you watched the dialogue zero will say that he didn't expect X to use soul body and then he fainted for a bit if you knew that already then i apologize :)
man... when you fight x as zero... his moves aren't all that different than when you play as x (there slightly different but not hugely) but zero gets all these badass buster shots and sword moves... and yes he gets most of those moves even if you fight him and he's not in maverick form
bad ending: Zero wakes up and remembers his meaning of existence, and X, no matter what happens, runs to save the world good ending: these two just want someone to go to the base
I really wished his Genmurei was made in a way that is was actually dodgeable, but to do so is very hard and if it hits, it does lots of damage, but no instant-kill. Instead it's unavoidable and kills instantly, which makes it somewhat pointless as the chance is good you'll never see it, anyway, unless you actively go for it.
In my opinion without playing the games and judging the scenarios, this fight is way better than x 2s fight by a long shot the music, atmosphere, and general feel are perfect for the x series

Actually, it's because Keiji Inafune, the creator of Mega Man had left Capcom. This is why Mega Man Legends 3 was cancelled as well as Rockman Online 1 and 2.
Yep. It's funny that all the clues are there, from that symbol, to the layouts and characters ('Black Devil') that are so like the ones from the original Mega Man era, and Zero still doesn't know who that scientist in the dark with the cheesy mustache is. I hope if and when they continue the X series, they pick this up again. Between this and the cliffhanger in X8, there's more than enough material for a sequel.
This was so epic as a kid...I bought this the day it came out at EB Games (now Gamestop), and remember being so mad they changed the names to Guns n' Roses themed characters! I f'n hated Guns N' Roses then and I hate them now lol. But it didn't ruin a very well made game overall, even if it were basically a Mega Man X4 clone with slight variations on stages/bosses/weapons. The story is what made this game however, this battle in particular. I remember getting this song right away after I heard it haha. It might have even been on the OG Napster that I downloaded it...

X doesn't quite use the Ultimate Armor to its full potential when he's the opponent. If I had the U.A., I'd Nova Strike the f*** out of any one I was fighting. 'Course, he was fighting his friend, so maybe he was holding back. Who can say?

For what was supposed to be an epic battle between 2 legendary hunters, the dialogue beforehand was utterly terrible, especially with Zero when playing as X. Not to mention it completely contradicts what was shown earlier. Zero took one look at X after being turned into a Maverick and said I'll destroy you. Now he's shooting the breeze with him before they fight? -.- Way to ruin the moment, Capcom. No wonder I never valued this fight much. It just felt half assed.
