This '11 LSU team should have gone down as one of the top 5 college football teams of all time. Prior to the BCS NCG, they played a brutal schedule, beating 8 ranked teams (3 of those ranked in the top 3 at the time). Dominant O & D lines; 3 elite pass catchers, 4 RB's who would have started at any other Power 5 program, a defensive secondary featuring the likes of Tyrann Mathieu, Mo Claiborne, Ron Brooks, Loston, Reid, Tharold Simon, etc..., and special teams second to none. Then, having already beaten Alabama (in Tuscaloosa mind you), their opponent in the BCS NCG they (and by "they" I mean Les Miles) came out and called as predictable an offensive game plan as humanly possible, refused to alter the scheme or play call or change personnel despite a infinitely unproductive and deplorable first half. T-Bob Hebert, a starter since 2009 didn't sniff the field and Lee wasn't given a single series despite the fact that his play in the first half of the season put them in the position they were in. After 3 or 4 offensive series, it was clear that Jordan Jefferson would not give Lsu a chance to compete, much less win. Lsu should have fired Les Miles 24 hours after this debacle.

To play on that level and be so dominant against every team on their schedule (excluding Alabummer) with Jarrett Lee (who was actually a pretty decent QB who just got thrown to the wolves way too early, got snake-bit and lacked a coaching staff to develop game-plans that played into strengths) and Jordan Jefferson with his awful passing abilities, decision making and wind-up chicken-wing throwing motion, are all testaments to the greatness of the '11 team. That team reminds me of the '88 or '89 Lsu basketball team that couldn't win a single game in the SEC or NCAA Tournaments with Stanley Roberts, Shaquille O'Neal'l and Chris Jackson, among other talented players,. Almost too much talent if that's a possibility.
