The way Cory talks about Kratos almost made me cry. There would always be time constrains or limited budget but the passion of your work and the will to continue always prevails at the end of the day. Amazing job!
It’s honestly awe-inspiring from just a cinematographic aspect how detailed this is. Then the layer of emotional and narrative depth imbedded in these shots. Incredible.
Cory Balrog is probably the best director to work with. He seems so authentic, like he has such a big heart, the team did a perfect job getting this story together. Abaokutely terrific!
It's amazing to hear how so much emotional effort and struggle it took to create such an impactful game like this. This kind of emotional investment doesn't show in many games these days and I think the main reason why this game is so loved is because the team that made it out their all into it. Thats truly amazing to see, because real art can be made out of these cinematic games and unfortunely we just don't see that from other development companies anymore. I love this game, one of the best.
I never played any of the previous GoW games. I had no idea what happened before. But I instantly understood the relevance of those moments. Just the most amazing game.

Every game has content cut. GTA V and RDR 2 have entire plots/missions/weapons/pieces of content missing because of time and budget. There was going to be an ending in GTA V that killed Franklin and then you’d end up playing as Lamar but obviously, rerecording all of Franklin’s side content with Lamar, adding entirely new animations, dialogue, interiors for Lamar’s house, and more were too ambitious for the remaining time they had left on the game.
@@cadeonder1811 or sometimes these get removed because it just doesn't work. 3 or more missions in RDR2 got removed because, according to Dan Houser, lead writer of RDR2, "it was too boring and just not fun".
6:38 how Cory Barlog explained it was amazing, that’s exactly how I felt at that moment in the game. I played all the god of wars when they came out and I relate to what he’s saying. You can’t change the past and who you are, but you learn from it and you use it. That’s why I loved how Kratos put an emphasis on being better when talking to Atreus. He’s still a monster but he knows what he is, and he’s is trying to control it to be better, but he acknowledged what he truly is. That’s why I love this series so much
This scene in the game every time I see it makes me tear up, it truly is one of the biggest turning points in any story ever because it shows how much Kratos wants to hide his past and forget the nightmare that lasted decades, but he realizes he never can and embraces it for his son. It's so powerful and what gets me is when Kratos says I know when Athena says he'll always be a monster and his voice breaks, you could almost compare it to denial and that he doesn't want to accept reality, it truly is one of the saddest things I've seen in gaming.
Fuuuck dude. Corey is so genuine and down to earth and him treating his work and seriously gave of us an absolute artistic masterpiece of a game. He managed to make a story about killing everything in your path for revenge into an emotional journey about father and son, with Kratos learning just as much as Atreus along the way.
Cory... You are the greatest inspiration out there man. I love you. I have never seen someone being so moved to make video games. But REAL video games. The story, animations, little details, TURTLE HOUSE, axe, Norse mythology... Wow man. You have put so much effort into it. I just hope more companies and directors learn from this. I hope they go even half the distance you do. That would change the gaming for so much better. I can't wait for the next GoW. Now back to listening more of your commentaries!
As we would all agree - one of the best moments in the game. The build up, the blades, Athena, getting to use them immediately. And not only is this segment amazing, but it was so great to discover that the blades were just as mechanically deep as the axe, with their own runes and skill tree. Incredible job.
I loved the Leviathan Axe - it felt intuitive and you could pull off some things you never expected to work in combat. But the second Kratos even HINTED at getting out the Blades of Chaos, I literally leapt in excitement. Favourite moment of the entire game. God Of War is a masterpiece.
Hands down I think Corey is one of the best game directors I’ve ever seen, you can tell the love he has for this franchise and how proud he is of his game
This video, with this music, and this great man. Incredible. A year on and I don't think I will ever get tired of watching these videos about the amazing achievement of God of War. Can't wait to see what's still to come for series under the guidance of Cory.
5:53 I can believe it, cos I was right there with him. Christ Judge managed to do such a fantastic job acting this scene out and communicating his emotions non-verbally. The slow movements as he unwraps them, somewhere between reverence and revulsion, the gentle brush of his fingertips across the metal, his hands shaking as he remembers all the blood from his former life... the idea that *KRATOS*, the God Of War, would suffer from PTSD, was such fantastic character development. And the way he returns them to himself, fighting it with every motion but knowing he must, no matter how desperately he wants rid of them.... This game is something else.
Beautiful. I love it when a creator cares so much about their work, and to see them talk about the process behind that work. This moment in the game made me feel, and it’s nice to know that so much feeling went into it.
I'm more of an xbox person myself but I have a ps4 as well, and I have to say when I played this game it was one of the best stories this generation I was completely immersed in this world ... well done.
Cory Barlog is a gem. He is who developers should want to become. I have watched and listened to all of his appearances on podcasts and I cannot get enough of them. God of War is truly one of the best gamds I've played. It's up there with Resident Evil 4 for me.

And yap, GoW is a game that didn't have paid DLC, MP, MTX, or lootbox (which is a game that seem like EA will never have), and the game is sold better than most EA recent games
Much appreciation to Cory Barlog and his team for the amount of thought, time, effort and love that went into this game. I enjoyed it beyond what words could describe, and definitely look forward to what comes next.
That moment when he first uses the blades outside the hut gave me such a rush of so many different emotions. I feel so sorry for those that didn't play the previous games because they'll never fully understand the impact that moment was supposed to have.
A game formerly known for the protagonist's lack of empathy and raw brutality, now developed and experienced with tears. Cory is such a good director he is literally just so good at taking certain directions throughout development and has a really keen sense of what the players would want and how much they should prioritize on implementing it. Wish I could sit down in front of him and just praise him for the masterpiece of an experience he and the rest of the team over at sony santa monica has created.
I wont lie. when I went to put the blades back on and Athena popped up..I had to pause multiple times because it was so emotional for me. all the God of War games. the Blades are the most iconic and most history..it was hard watching that scene putting the Blades of Chaos on. it was very heartfelt.

Cory is such an amazing human being and as I told him when I met with him, "Thank you to you and your team for creating a Master Piece."
Imagine how EPIC the next God of War will be! Considering how much of a success this one was, Sony will probably give Cory a bigger budget for the next installment

I didn’t even play the old god of war games and I felt the weight of this entire scene going back and putting the Chains on. It gave me goosebumps because I could tell how impactful it was
The boat ride and the blades reveal scene gets me teary every single time. The emotions of present and the past of Kratos are just too much to handle.
All these little details like his rage fading when he holds his son are absolutely amazing. What a masterpiece of a game.
The passion Cory envokes is just so contagious. I cant wait for the sequel to possibly topple the first game.
Thank you Gamespot team for coming up with the idea of this video series, and making it so good.
Hemang Chauhan Yeah but basically they ripped off the Vanity Fair’s series of breaking down scenes from movies, TV shows etc.
The way Cory talks about Kratos almost made me cry. There would always be time constrains or limited budget but the passion of your work and the will to continue always prevails at the end of the day. Amazing job!
This game was a *MASTERPIECE* that every game developer now and in the future should strive for. Great job to cory and his team.
My God the sheer level of attention to detail and imagination that he has is simple astounding.
It’s honestly awe-inspiring from just a cinematographic aspect how detailed this is. Then the layer of emotional and narrative depth imbedded in these shots. Incredible.
my heart and emotions :
GOW : *_Im about to touch this man's heart_*
And man did it touch my heart..
You guys nailed the way the blades feel to use its so satisfing to demolish endless hordes of enemies wielding them
Me: the axe is a great weapon.
*gets Blades of Chaos*
Me: axe? What axe?
Cory Balrog is probably the best director to work with. He seems so authentic, like he has such a big heart, the team did a perfect job getting this story together. Abaokutely terrific!
It's amazing to hear how so much emotional effort and struggle it took to create such an impactful game like this. This kind of emotional investment doesn't show in many games these days and I think the main reason why this game is so loved is because the team that made it out their all into it. Thats truly amazing to see, because real art can be made out of these cinematic games and unfortunely we just don't see that from other development companies anymore. I love this game, one of the best.
Watching his passion while talking about GoW is part of what makes the game so great. The team behind this reinvention are amazing.
I never played any of the previous GoW games. I had no idea what happened before. But I instantly understood the relevance of those moments.
Just the most amazing game.
you missed alot then buddy. If you can go and play Gow1+2 HD remaster and Gow3 remaster. You wont regret it and you will understand even better the impact of Kratos story
You should play previous games they're absolute masterpieces better than the new GoW in my opinion.
A true director. I love how passionate he is about his craft and the determination of his team
So glad the team got their shit together and birthed this moment! because it was really awesome to go through it as a gamer, the emotions that coursed through my body and nostalgia + the feels, OMW!!! just Epic. Thanks Cory and Santa Monica for this epic moment in gaming.
Wait........
*THIS* GAME HAD BUDGET CUTS!!!!??
Kneeon not budget cuts but it did have a budget that they had to work with
@@miliyn17 That actually makes more sense.
@@cadeonder1811 woah.
That’s why I love this series so much
Cory is such a nice and humble guy. Love him so much.
Those hell walkers couldn't even touch me once i got my hands on the blades of Chaos...it was EPIC..!
*hel walkers
I genuinely just enjoy listening to this man speak
As we would all agree - one of the best moments in the game. The build up, the blades, Athena, getting to use them immediately. And not only is this segment amazing, but it was so great to discover that the blades were just as mechanically deep as the axe, with their own runes and skill tree. Incredible job.
I loved the Leviathan Axe - it felt intuitive and you could pull off some things you never expected to work in combat. But the second Kratos even HINTED at getting out the Blades of Chaos, I literally leapt in excitement. Favourite moment of the entire game.
God Of War is a masterpiece.
Nostalgia overload for me, despite it being spoiled for me.
I love this man. The passion in God of War is unmatched. The subtlety is something that only grows better the more you pay attention
Masterfully executed. As a fan, I really appreciate this scene.
Hands down I think Corey is one of the best game directors I’ve ever seen, you can tell the love he has for this franchise and how proud he is of his game
its funny i never noticed the helwalker in the background killing a deer xD
The God of War getting 4k tv would definitely help
Was he killing a deer? I thought he was Just walking randomly
He wasn't killing a deer, what cory said was that he wanted to have one killing a deer but instead they could only put one because of the budget.
i have 4K but still didn't noticed it , im gonna make another run and i'll throw my axe at the helwalker to save the deer XD
@@thegodslayer6640 he doesnt kill the a deer are you dumb
This video, with this music, and this great man. Incredible. A year on and I don't think I will ever get tired of watching these videos about the amazing achievement of God of War. Can't wait to see what's still to come for series under the guidance of Cory.
I'm a really great artist by the way and people are jealous of my skills.
-Cory barlog
Thank you Cory, you're a awsom human. You reinvigorated one of the most excellent games of all time
Beautiful. I love it when a creator cares so much about their work, and to see them talk about the process behind that work. This moment in the game made me feel, and it’s nice to know that so much feeling went into it.
this scene was incredible...i wished that kratos' old theme came back that one time tho wouldve blown my mind
I'm more of an xbox person myself but I have a ps4 as well, and I have to say when I played this game it was one of the best stories this generation I was completely immersed in this world ... well done.
Annnnnd I want to play this game again
Cory Barlog is a gem. He is who developers should want to become. I have watched and listened to all of his appearances on podcasts and I cannot get enough of them. God of War is truly one of the best gamds I've played. It's up there with Resident Evil 4 for me.
Imagine if every developer treated this game with this much care
Man, I wish I could just hug Corey and thank him for such an amazing job
Ok now do the baldur moments
I'm really looking forward to see that
the passion put into this game brings tears to my eyes. games are not for kids any more they are a work of art just like any other.
A year later and we're still talking bout this masterpiece.
Cory's a hero for those beautiful individuals that are doubted because of their unique ideas. Really, his story and struggle in making god of war was an uphill battle and he conquered it. Thank you, cory. For the game and for more than that
I now appreciate these people and this game more than I ever have
Even a year on this game still hit me right in the feels
I wonder what EA thinks of Cory since they believe single player games are dead?
they dont they just want to spin that narrative make the impression people dont want them if you tell a lie enough times it becomes true that way they can just makes more of those live service games and cash on the micro transactions
They don't care they care about profit margins and nothing else
Maybe EA hate Cory, because you know, Cory said that EA just nonsense. After that, he also showing a footage where Kratos destroying a box (lootbox). And yap, GoW is a game that didn't have paid DLC, MP, MTX, or lootbox (which is a game that seem like EA will never have), and the game is sold better than most EA recent games
EA is only saying that because they can release multiplayer game like fifa every year very very easily can’t do that with a master piece like GOW
They are the ones who disliked the video
Much appreciation to Cory Barlog and his team for the amount of thought, time, effort and love that went into this game. I enjoyed it beyond what words could describe, and definitely look forward to what comes next.
Such a good director. He cares about it so much.
That moment when he first uses the blades outside the hut gave me such a rush of so many different emotions. I feel so sorry for those that didn't play the previous games because they'll never fully understand the impact that moment was supposed to have.
Masterpiece
Knack 2 baby
After months of trashing GoW and putting RDR2 on a pedestal you call GoW a masterpiece?
A game formerly known for the protagonist's lack of empathy and raw brutality, now developed and experienced with tears. Cory is such a good director he is literally just so good at taking certain directions throughout development and has a really keen sense of what the players would want and how much they should prioritize on implementing it. Wish I could sit down in front of him and just praise him for the masterpiece of an experience he and the rest of the team over at sony santa monica has created.
Cory : iam a really great artist by the way . People are jealous of my skills.
Me : lol 😂
and he was'nt even trying to
I wont lie. when I went to put the blades back on and Athena popped up..I had to pause multiple times because it was so emotional for me. all the God of War games. the Blades are the most iconic and most history..it was hard watching that scene putting the Blades of Chaos on. it was very heartfelt.
God bless this man for bringing us the BEST of Kratos and GOD OF WAR!
And the whole team.
Yeap
@@iddan1205 Right. Let's not forget them.

Brilliant man. I love the masculinity and strong father values he instills in this game. Truly powerful.
"This is why I love making games"
