- After we replaced the chainsaw bar, sawing became twice as fast, and sawdust was halved. But the new tire has a big disadvantage, the chain does not cope with sawing metal, as it was before.

What great craftsmen I have cut down many trees and processed the wood for fire wood I envy these guys for being able to take the time and harvest the wood for a much better use.

This tree was around during the prohibition and the great depression kinda of sad if you think about it.
More likely this tree was around during the rise and fall of the soviet union.
Excellent potential in long bar with more safety and foresight into raising the project away from rocks and dirt on the ground and never allow hands or limbs to cross that saw path as wisely pointed out in previous contents.
Here in Philippines ive seen chainsaw sawyers cut lengths of hardwood boards from .7 meter diameter trees over 4.or 5. lengths x 0.050 meters with accuracy and precision into fantastic framing lumber with that smaller bar. Amazing to watch.
I kept dulling my chainsaw mill on clean wood I finally figured out the cooling air from powerhead was blowing dust dirt off ground an getting into cut causing dulling.
I placed old plywood on ground as barrier between powerhead an ground 3 x longer between sharpnenings.

Yeah, dust and dirt are nasty for keeping chains sharp. Hell, even cutting through cavities in oaks with animal feces will dull them pretty quickly.
Yup, I wondered why they didn't lower that log onto some 4 by 4's on the ground. Oh well.
I made my own chainsaw mill with some all thread, a couple washers and nuts, some spacers, and a piece of heavy duty angle iron works just as good as the ones you buy online.
Those knipex pliers when you repaired the chain are awesome. I had a pair and i miss them.
Perfect fit for my Echo CS-370, and the chain cuts very well th-cam.com/users/postUgkxBd8qUztQUCL8Rm1-aIig5ViBT2E_kO_6 . I had been using a Stihl chain that I had sharpened several times (sometimes at a shop, sometimes with my own electric chain sharpener), and there's no comparison -- the new chain cuts much better and holds its edge longer. We'll see how the new chain holds up when it needs sharpening, but for now I'm happy.

Bar does not determine how fast the saw cuts looks like that long by I didn't get oiled enough all the way around. Sounded a little tight at the end of the cut. Remember boys your long bars you need to throw little more oil at the chain. Probably wouldn't be impossible to get that log up off the ground a little bit that's a lot of chain to file
That's all right. Additional lubrication is needed. Not done yet. We need to work on this issue. Sawing much faster with 3/8 bar than 404

It also stretches alot. I like the regular 404 chain more on big bars. A bit slower and thicker cut? Sure. But worth not having to readjust the tensioner from extra stretching, sharpening less often and it doesn't break when hitting metal. RM and ripping chain in .404 ftw!
I hope you recovered just fine from your shock. Indeed a good chain saw can be quite shock for a lot of people.
I recommend that you stay away from viewing videos of high speed trains or videos of high tech holography!

I’m jealous. I want that saw and log. Just imagine the carpenters wood working benches you could make from that log.
Work benches? Your thinking to small. That log could make a bunch of "live edge" tables that would sell for 3-5x as much as a work bench.
Hell that first slab he dropped, that could easily sell for 5k as a decorative table.

Imagine if that chain snapped or came loose instead of just getting your hands/arms it could wrap around your whole body
It is spinning away, not towards you. I've had many chains break and they always fly around the log away from me.
Only reason I said it is because I know a guy who cut is whole hand open from a chain snapping just cuz it’s turning clockwise doesn’t mean it can’t get u just much less likely

Thats the problem with yard trees is more often then not they have metal in them somewhere. Your lucky if its only a nail or 2. I have seen cable, chain, pieces of pipe, rebar, spikes, bullets, and probably other stuff that I can't think of off the top of my head.

How so? Kickback that deep into a cut won't bounce out, it usually binds pretty quickly due to it pulling left or right.

@@577buttfan I've cut down thousands of trees, big and small, without ever hanging kickback ever come close to my hands, arms, legs, chest, etc. As long as you are aware of your tip and never starting a cut with the tip, you will have a low chance of getting kickbacks. Also checking trees/logs before beginning a cut is a MUST to make sure there are no obvious metal objects that the tree grew into or around, such as fences, posts, or signs.

Too bad the bar doesn't cut anything, it's just a guide for what does... longer bars are actually slower after a point. The saw can only pull so much before length and speed equal out

Perty slow cutting. You could use a bar half that length and cut faster. Also, sharpening your chain would help.

The guy on top pushing the wood should be told thats bot very safe to be up there as if that chain breaks with that bar being so long it could whip up and hit him.

What saw is that he using and what brand is the sword ? More spesific info about the equipment....would i recommend.
Looks similar to what I used here on the west coast of bc years ago.
Was a Stihl 090 with the Alaskan saw mill attachment.
Very similar attachment to what is in the demo.

Can't see how a bar is gonna speed up a chainsaw. Speed is determined by the spur on the clutch, has nothing to do with the bar
