Hope everyone is safe. Love that you took the time to mention concern for others. You are a special person.
It was QUITE a storm!
Very good and kind advice on checking in with your neighbors before, during and after a blizzard. YOU stay safe, too, Lindsay, and the same to all who are going through the same weather conditions.
Fab. You have cheered me up no end. No fun being snotty and grotty. We aint got the same snow as you but it is cold out there. I am loving the ideas you have to store things. It has given me inspiration to how I want to store my crafty items. Thank you. X
Yes, this was useful. You’re wonderful all bubbly and chocked full of information and talent. I hope you enjoy making these videos as much as we love watching them. I think first before you decide to use the 20 pan pallet you need to figure out if you have a spot to keep at least 2 of them because you’ probably want more colors if you free up some space. Then sit down and think about your style and the way you work. Will a bigger pallet work for you. For me it wouldn’t because my current work area is very small. Hope that’s still relevant. I didn’t see a date for when your video was made. Thanks for sharing all your great ideas.
Thanks!
Lindsay,
Thanks for mentioning that the most important part of organizing our things is do it the way it makes sense for us. I love watching how others store their things, and craft room tours, because I get great ideas I can use, but ultimately I have to be able to use the idea because it makes sense for me, not just because it is pretty or works for someone else. You are one of the few people who seem to get that, you share how you do things, but know that each persons' brain works their own way!
I hope you will consider seeing a doctor when you can get out safely, it sounds like you have way more than a cold going on, possibly strep or an ear infection? Please be careful! Also, know you are in my prayers with all this snow. Although I miss NY terribly, I don't miss the snowstorms. Thanks for mentioning that people should check on one another, I was lucky enough in NY to have good neighbors who would help me during storms, power outages, etc. . .
I'd go for the 20 and enjoy them.
Our snow here in CT was a cheap imitation of a storm; we had all of a couple inches to cover the icy dregs from the previous. The winds wouldn't have been enough to fly a kite, let alone prune the trees.
A suggestion for another video would be to park the camera somewhere far enough away that we see your whole area all at once with you sitting in your chair demonstrating that various supplies are close at hand for different tasks. I have some movable carts with my stamping supplies at school, so when I sit at my big table, I push the carts to where a "return" on a desk would be. When I make cards, those carts are there but most of the diecutting stuff is farther away, requiring me to go fetch it, do the diecutting, then put that stuff away and work with the diecuts themselves. Seeing you "in action" from afar might help folks who are wondering how to arrange "everything" around themselves.
thank you so much for sharing your pastel & blending stash.
We are drenched here in So. CA with our first real storm. We even had water spouts an hour away south in San Diego and a tornado in LA, believe it or not. you bring sunshine into any rainy day.
Lindsay, glad that you all are holding up given the weather. Nice reminder to keep your neighbors in mind and ask for help if needed. Enjoyed the storage video. I'd stick with the pan pastel palette that you can easily store. When I can't easily store stuff it ends up some place not too convenient.
I have family in Maine and I saw videos of the storm when it started. I hope you are staying warm.
Liked the authentic tone, thank you. Lots of good affordable options.
Fray4all thank you:)
Thanks for sharing your methods. I have been happier with buying what fits, or what I can modify to fit. I store like with like, in the past have discovered items that didn't fit my system in the weirdest places, & also purchased duplicates that did fit. (not frugal). I put a masking tape reminder to remind me where the non fitting supplies were located until they are gone. Redoing my entire craft room would be overwhelming, & I get frustrated when I can't find what I want quickly. Thank you for reminding us all, to check on each other. This has been a tough & dangerous winter.
Glenna Artrip yes it has:) Don't try and do it all at ones, do a bin or a shelf at a time, like on a sunday afternoon while listing to a podcast, audio book or some other treat you enjoy, it will go quickly;)
The pallettes for the pastels would look great displayed on the wall as pop style art. Circles and dots on posters are all the rage right now, and here you have the perfect visuals for some unique and all you own! Throw some pretty patterned paper behindit bordered with washi tape &you could even hang it above the newly-located drafting table in your WARMERwork area... (which I totally relate to, being that my craft space is in ann unheated section of a Minnesota basement. LOL)
Keep up the fantastic work that you do,
Warm hugs.
Great video Lindsay. Most of all I appreciate the love and respect you show for rhose around you. May God bless and keep you and yours safe.
I like your stacked storage units! I recently overhauled my storage because I received some cubes for Christmas. I have to have everything within arm's reach of my chair or it doesn't get used. Now I have all my embellishments together and I love it! Thanks for this video series, I am enjoying it. I think the 10-pot storage would work best since you have storage for the trays.
Thanks for all the tips...I just might get some of my things together I think I may find some surprises in my stash which is fun. I Would stick with the 10 trays they match your other ones and you have the perfect place to put them. I dont know if it matters to you but it would also take up less space on your table when you use them...that is always a issue for me no room and things rolling around...I wish we would get some of your snow we are headed for another very dry year I have never seen our lakes and rivers so low...no garden again. Now we are having earthquakes scary . Stay warm and safe .
Love all of your blogs. Thanks for sharing your supplies. And keep warm.
I would stick with the ten because it fits in the basket because baskets are fun! Thank you for sharing all of your methods of storage. :)
Lindsay, you have so much but I understand why when you teach so much. I have a lot too, but have many friends that stop over to work on things and I'm always glad for what I have. You know where things are and what works for you and that's important. Wish you'd do a video on how you make your blending tools as buying them is expensive. Would appreciate it. Thanks. Edna B.
Edna B here you go, they are almost free to make! OK it costs $1 to make 50, not bad:) th-cam.com/video/0M3Ac3QGUyI/w-d-xo.html
thefrugalcrafter Lindsay Weirich
Thanks you! Edna
Hey Lindsay........wow, you have a great set up here, I love the small wooden drawers ! I live in Canada and yes, we got slammed with the blizzard, and there is another one on the way in a couple of days. Thanks for sharing, stay warm and safe.
Lindsay, I just love all your helpful tips and ideas! Today I especially loved your cigar box idea, and I sure hope I can score a couple of those boxes somewhere soon. As far as you not showing something long enough, I just pause the video if I want to see something longer. Stay warm and stay safe! from Your crafting friend on a rainy little island in the Puget Sound
Loved the video, thanks for sharing your art room and all your storage solutions. I love the wooden drawer set for your pastels, I would love them for my colored pencils and watercolor pencils. Again TFS
I love the odds and ends storage, it's because that's basically all I have so please show it whenever possible. :)
Amber Cook will do!
Great video - very inspiring! Stay warm & get well soon!
New England RI! What a mess but love how you put that out there to check in on your neighbor/elderly. Blessed my Mom has wonderful neighbors. I'm too far from her but family just about down the rd from her doesn't even call or shovel etc....for her. Pretty sad.
Well, I love the distress inks for blending back rounds etc.. For me, the rectangle shape blending tool; not so good because if you stub a corner, your work gets marks...and all.... I need to try the round one and see if there is a difference.
I have used the make-up sponges but they seem to fall apart as your blending...get bits of sponge in my work...
What type of material are the real ones made from? Wondering if anything we could get to make ourselves... I love how well the original works/blends, and holds color with out falling apart. Long lasting also.
For my pan pastel collection I use the pallets for 20 colors. Being 14"x11-1/4" they are not too big to handle for me. I put the pans into the pallet grooves by color strength (tint - normal - shade - dark).
They are sorted on how I like to group them: one pallet for yellows and the chromoxyde green, one for greens/blues, one for oranges/reds/browns, one for violets/magentas + metallics and one for the white/gray/black.
Since you found a nice storage solution using the pallets for 10 colors there seems to be no need to change that.
I have no pearlescent ones and I'm not sure if I'll buy them. I have a good collection of the Perfect Pearls colors and I believe I can dust them over the pan pastels to give them shimmer.
The handles for the little sponge-"sockets" are not cheap but perhaps you can get them cheaper using a coupon. At first I tried the cheap version with the eyeshadow sponges but they don't last as long. I use one socket (or how would you call it?) per color family. Even if you use a darker color you can just clean them on a piece of scratch paper or a kitchen towel and you can use them with a lighter color without spoiling it. So in the end they're not as expensive as they seem.
Love how you are storing your pastels! As for the trays, I had the same dilemma, when I made my original purchase of PPs. I got a great deal on them, so I purchased more than I normally would have. Anyways, my biggest issue was and still is storage, so I went with the smaller trays. They fit perfectly in my Alex (IKEA) drawers, and I still have growing room. Plus it solved my biggest issue......trying to figure out where I would put them on my work table, when I was playing with the PPs.
I use the PanPastel 10 organizer for the same reason you stated. It's waaaayyy easier to store the smaller tray. Feel better soon.
hi Lindsay, great videos on storage - and good to hear you can work upstairs on your new desk. best wishes
Stay safe Lindsay, love your storage videos :)
I just ordered two sets of the storage system, thanks for enabling me lol!
Christie Trout I hear you! Art supplies are a joy and an addiction :)
I opt for the smaller. My space is limited right now so I tend to go for smaller storage bins... But, if you have the space, of course go for the bigger storage for the couple dollars more. Would make sense then. :-) I am loving this series and you inspired me to get my craft room unpacked and sit up. I moved in July and here it is, January and I am finally getting down to business, thanks for the inspiration!
I understand the desire to get more bang for your buck, BUT if its not efficient!t for you its really not a deal. Seems like the smaller pallets would be better workhorses. Easier overall storage solutions as well as for using in work mode on your desk. Hope that helps! Stay warm and safe! I hope you get to enjoy the time trapped inside your home with your family. This thought would maybe terrify some people LOL but they really are this age for just a moment and it is a rare opportunity these days to just shut out the rest of the world and really be in a moment with our family, so ENJOY the inconvenience of nasty weather! Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful tutorials with us!
Lynn M so true, the girls and all all came down with the same cold so there was a lot of snuggling and TV watching in our house:)
Proof...There is always supplies on hand for making the best lemonade! LOL Funny that your response just popped up! I was just re-visiting your review on colored pencils. I think you may have saved me some cha- ching! THANKS!
Great video Lindsay. If you get any free time Lindsay, I'd love it if you could do a video on Pastels, Gelato's etc. I sort of know how Gelatos are used, but when it comes to pastels I never know which to buy for what. So, soft pastels, oil pastels...etc., etc. I'd love it if you could do a video on what different types of pastels there are and what they are usually used for etc. Many thanks Lindsay. Stay warm! Lee xx
Crafty Loops that is a great idea, thanks!
thefrugalcrafter Lindsay Weirich I would really like that too! I am doing an art journal and want to do different things. I have been keeping everyone in your area in prayer.
am in the northeast uk linsay and we are getting snow as well
Everytime I see you in that coat, I think, come to California! Of course the next thing I think is, but you'd have to kiss your big craft room goodbye. :). So glad you will have a place upstairs in the heat! I love your videos. Thanks for sharing
Thanks so much. Great info, as usual.
In this case, I think smaller would be best. For me, I would always go for the smaller packaging due to my small space. TFS luvy, and stay safe and warm!!! ♥
Great video, thanks so much! I prefer the 10 pack for my Pan Pastels. I rarely use more than that many colors during a project, and it just seems like a more convenient size to have on my work space.
Awesome video, and yes, I am getting more and more organized. Only problem is, the more organized I get, the more supplies I buy...which means I have more space! That's not really a problem, though =) Thanks for sharing, there were some really good ideas in here.
The good thing about not having a lot of art supplies is that storing them is pretty easy. :)
Liebe Lindsay!
Thanks Lindsay! When you buy the things then you need to store the things 😄 can’t help myself though 😉
You are an absolute blast to watch. You inspired me to show you my cozy set up. Love love sista.
P.S. Love how you always put your hair up.
BipolarScrapBooking thanks!
I was thinking about doing a few storage videos.
as for your question...is the space available in your work area a consideration? I mean, would you have room for the 20 pack as opposed to stacking the 10 packs?
Great ideas
Thanks for sharing.
Be safe. We are to get some snow and icey roads tomorrow. I live bop lose to Cincinnati Ohio.
get the smaller containers so they fit more easily into available spaces, also fit better on your desk when working
Lindsay, I have seen the Gelatos around -- I don't know anything about them except what I Googled. Do you have a video on them? My family is getting snow-slammed in MA. Getting housebound & hot cocoa after sledding are the only things I miss about snow.
Karen Menard this video has lots of gelatos techniques, i think you will find it helpful: th-cam.com/video/PCkjnlJ-3no/w-d-xo.html
Great video series :) I love the three drawer pastel boxes, so had to go look those up. I have Amazon Prime, so they were cheaper there than they were at Jerry's Artarama, but great deal either place. As for the Pan Pastel trays... I found myself with the same question that you have. I opted for the 20 count tray and filled in with just the colors I needed...started with the 10 piece painting set also, then added some individual colors from the portrait shades. I have room for the larger tray as far as storing it goes, but I was thinking about the smaller trays and decided not to do so because if you have colors that you need that may be in different trays it's going to be problematic for me. I have the storage space, but the actual work surface space is limited and since the ten tray does not use it's size economically, it takes up more room on the work area if you should need to use two or more of the sets during any one work session. It's better to have the twenty in one place than I can set somewhere securely, than to risk have two trays out that might be bumped and knocked off easily.
Patricia Walker I think you are right. Maybe I will et the 20 palettes because i am thinking that if I put a peice of white paper under the 10 palettes they would make bodacious palettes for watercolors! Big spots for big washes of color!
Good thoughts. What do you call the wood drawer storage things you found on Amazon?
Pat Hathaway I just searched for 3 drawer wood pastel storage box. I found several, some with two drawers also, but read the reviews. Some are only cardboard dividers in the drawers and they may work but get more negative reviews. The ones on Amazon were $25.48 and free two day shipping for Prime members. Probably still free shipping for others just not two day. The base price was almost $32 for the same set on Jerry's Artarama, and I didn't check, but I've never seen free shipping on Jerry's unless you had over a certain amount or on special sales.
thefrugalcrafter Lindsay Weirich If you just painted with gesso or white acrylic on the underside of the wells you could do away with the white paper even. I'm a klutz sometimes, so anything paper can end up becoming an unintentional paper aircraft with the least provocation :)
Patricia Walker always google "jerry's artarama coupon codes" because you will find them, usually free shipping and a % off if you spend a certain amount:)
I think the smaller palette is better, of course, my opinion, because that's what I have, and it's so much easier to store, and use too...I love that size, and I think you'll like it too...
What was that that you made with the bottle cap's, what do you use that for? Do you have a tutorial on that? I have so many bottle cap's, my husband was putting picture's into them a while back, and then stopped, meanwhile he got them from a brewery...so we have lots!!! Thanks Lindsey!
Crafty Grandma The tutorial is here: th-cam.com/video/0M3Ac3QGUyI/w-d-xo.html have fun!
thefrugalcrafter Lindsay Weirich Thank you Lindsay...I love it!
Since you have been reorganizing your craft room, have you updated your marker storage? I have a small Copic collection about 80 markers, and just bought 168 Mepxy markers (they were on clearance and an awesome deal) and am looking for the best way to store them, any thoughts?
I love Your entusiasm :)
Did you get the 20s????
I love those drawers from Jerry's Artarama! Too bad shipping is over $50 US to Canada and with the dollar exchange would be outrageous! Will be looking for something similar in Canada. Love your videos!
artzology yuck! Hey can you order from amazon in Canada? Patricia Walker said they were cheaper with amazon prime...maybe I need more? LOL!
thefrugalcrafter Lindsay Weirich I checked on amazon.ca and they do not offer prime and are sold from USA, so very expensive!
Hi , so what in those purple storage boxes behind you?
Monique Miller oh, lots of goodies! I think I need to so an "all the rest..." video (can anyone say random?) LOL!
We are ok up here in Massachusetts and lost 2 days of school .
For people who saw my comment on storing colored pencils, watercolor pencils, etc. . . These are the drawers I use for mine!
How much snow did you get. Praying for you all.
dianamite8 2 feet! More on the way tomorrow night too!
thefrugalcrafter Lindsay Weirich hope you all are safe and warm! here's a sunshine hug and warmer weather from FL! :)
Lindsay, Do you think anyone can learn to draw or paint? Do you have a suggestion on aids to self teach? I have always wanted to draw, but after the first attempt I gave up. But I would really like to learn.
Wanda Ferrell there is a book that is great for adults called "Drawing on the Right Side of your Brain" by Betty Edwards. Try that;) Yes, anyone can learn!
Thanks :)
thefrugalcrafter Lindsay Weirich That's the book we used in Drawing 101 in college. It's a matter of learning to see vs. drawing what you think you know. Good luck Wanda :)
Thanks :) Going to the library to get the book out Monday.
I just like too see All your kool stuff too...
kym rhymer thanks:)
butter sugar and vinegar mixed in to a liquid
great for sore throats i use it all the time
Andy Coakes Thank you Andy, I am a real baby when I am sick:)
its my grans recipe it really soothes sore throats
I wish they still put the NuPastels in plastic trays. I just got the set of 96 and the foam in the box is ridiculous. There's no way you can use them easily out of the original box! Thankfully I have an empty pastel drawer. I store brushes, crayons, colored pencils and paint tubes in the pastel drawers too.
Do you think you can do some video tutorials over pastels? ;;
Pan pastels in particular
I would rather have the pan pastel trays that store easily even though they aren't the best price. When I use a large water color palette I find it is hard to find a place on my table for it and I bet the large PP tray would be the same way. I haven't bought any of the PP palettes yet because I'd rather get more colors right now. Since I am really short (and the f*t word) I have to set my office chair as high as it will go and the table as low as it will tilt. Everything slides toward me! Hubz attached a piece of angle iron to the front edge and it catches pencils and markers when they slide but the individual PP pans are always sliding around. I have used pieces of fun foam on top of the table and that helps a little but after awhile it tends to want to slide too. I'll have to check out the palettes.
Pat Hathaway I think you are great Pat, I love hearing about your new crafty adventures, you have such wonderful enthusiasm!
Pat, why not try some of the rubber shelf liner available at so many stores? You could tack it in place with some removable adhesive tape or even thumb tacks if your desk is wood. Or maybe some Velcro?
Stay with the smaller pan pastel storage cases. The larger ones that won't fit well will drive you crazy. Lits.
I think you should talk to that wood maker in that house (DH) to make you a try box for your pan pastel trays..than you can store them like your others Pastels
In my opinion, I'd go for more bang for your buck. Especially if the difference is only a couple of dollars. I'd love to see how you use your pan pastels. : )
I'd get the smaller more expensive pallets. Just the ease or storage is worth the extra couple of bucks in my mind.
I really like this storage video series it gives me some great ideas, also it's just really satisfying to see stuff well organized.
Unlimited Apathy thanks:)
cant find portfolio water soluble oil pastels anywhere in the UK
Andy Coakes theuy are by Crayola and very much like gelatoes.
In the US they are made by Crayola. They have a distinctive orange and green box with a drawing of a tiger on it--well, it looks like the drawing is fish now. www.dickblick.com/products/portfolio-series-watersoluble-oil-pastels/
They are considered a child's coloring product here and I found mine at the local Walgreens drug store. Office supply stores sell them too.
thefrugalcrafter Lindsay Weirich
cant find them either in the uk been on to crayola both uk and us they cant help :(
"There kinda typical..." What are the drawers called? The two stack of Beach wood and oak? +thefrugalcrafter
+christierella these are pastel cabinets. About $24 for a 3 drawer cabinet at Jerry's artarma
+thefrugalcrafter Lindsay Weirich thank you very much, I see at least one set in my near future!
I say get the 10 set as you already have a place to store them. And confirm that pan pastels are "chalks"? Thanks!
Rosanna Judah-Elliott yes, they are, super soft like eyeshadow chalks:)
Stay with the one that is easy to store.
Vanessa Bourque thanks!
np I am redoing my studio and I have gotten a lot of ideas from you.

Crafter people are insane. This video is proof of that... But, if getting busy with all this keeps you out of the nut house....more power to ya...

disappointed wanted to see containers more than shown
+Diane H I'll keep that in mind for next time!
+thefrugalcrafter Lindsay Weirich do 20. it's a great deal. though, the deal may have passed I guess, since it's been months.
