    Sad to see a good engine like that go to the scrap yard, but thanks for the teardown.

    Dude somehow checked for oil squirters inside the crank journals but didn't find a broken lifter! Cool swap, can't wait to see it running.

    Dude wanted to do the Cummins swap. All you guy’s talking crap about it like he couldn’t have fixed a simple lifter. Lol

    Short shorts, a jacket, and a toboggan. Sounds like something I would have worn in high school. Save the short shorts. Only girls wore them back then. "Daisey Dukes" we called them; I still do.

    It's a complete and utter shame that a good diesel engine got scrapped over an easy to replace part. I'm hoping that you learn for next time and can diagnose it sooner so you are not out of money and time with a truck down.

      Those 6.5s are not a very desirable engine. The Cummins will be much better for him in almost every way.

      Those were never "good" they were either broken or almost broken......

      Agree with both of you. I owned one and it was nothing but trouble

      everyone hates on the 6.5 but mann i was on balcony of a beach house one night and saw a little Chevy 2500 whooshing down the street with a 6.5. It was so quiet.

    If you think the 6.5 detroit is a heavy engine, i can tell you straight up the fully assambled 5.9 cummins weight about twice as much.
    The 6.5L Detroit is around 400 kilos, and the 5.9L Cummins is around 800 kilos.

    I am unsure why Earnest seems upset with his decision. A bad lifter sounds like a major problem to me. Good to know the vehicle will be working soon with his new engine.

      6.5 is a great engine, it would of had so much more life if he just repaired it. Im guessing thats why hes kinda bummed

    • @kyleedgerton3698
      @kyleedgerton3698 ปีที่แล้ว

      full set of lifters maybe 1000$ his new engine and coversion = easy 6000. not the brightest decision, maybe should of taken it to a mechanic :D

    • @rch5991
      @rch5991 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kyleedgerton3698 Sadly no one wants to work on that. People will overquote you to get rid of you. My brother had a 6.5 short bus.. my guess would be the injector pump.. but he took it to a guy for him to quote him $10k on a new engine isntead 🤣🤣

    Why not reassemble with new lifters and sell?

    • @MrZimmaframe
      @MrZimmaframe ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought that, but obviously he isn't short for cash. The original engine was low mileage too, a simple lifter replacement and he would have thousands in costs and hours in time saved, but i guess everyone thinks differently.

  • @congermjr

    Someone would have paid good money for that and you just go a scrap it what a shame

  • @joestreiff9401

    you do realize you could have gotten at least $500 for that motor all day long, had you not butchered it.

    • @rch5991
      @rch5991 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its a tough sale. Ive bought 7.3s for parts for $200-300 just because no one wants to pick em up.

    Next time please set the engine down before unstrapping it, that could have taken out your legs or worse, if the stand landed on you from the gravity shift. Love the content!

  • @Dsr122076

    Wouldn't a broken lifter been a much cheaper fix than replacing the engine?

    • @MiguelGarcia-nl3ci
      @MiguelGarcia-nl3ci ปีที่แล้ว

      Not if you had to dissasemble it to find out after replacing the oil pump

    • @ExCELGamingandMods
      @ExCELGamingandMods ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 6.5 is not a very desirable engine. It has lots of flaws and if you need to depend on it every day, it's going to be a problem. The Cummins will treat him much better.

    if the head is flat on the block, how is removing the bolts straight across going to bend the head??

  • @stevenlatham4397
    @stevenlatham4397 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The only thing I would have kept was the fuel system. They were a high failure system, and now are nearly impossible to acquire. It would have been worth enough to get you an NV4500 to go behind that Cummins 🤔

  • @coreybabcock2023
