I have and love flying the Mk. V from Flight Replicas. I chose it because of the review that Av Angel gave it and it did not disappoint. It is one sexy airplane. As for Compton Abbas aside from being a huge Guy Richie fan I enjoy flying in and out of it. In fact I learned how to taxi the Spit at this airfield. Burning Blue just keeps improving with each airfield they create. Thanks a bunch for sharing this. Don't you like the late afternoon lighting? It gives videos that Francis Ford Copula look.
Fully agree, Flight Replicas really did a fantastic job with it! What I really love about his Spitfires is, that it isn't just one model with a lot of repaints, but rather a collection of individual aircraft. With different wheels, propellers, windshield armor, mirrors and so on. Representing the individual aircraft exactly like it looked. It's obvious that it is a passion project. Me too it's one of my favorite airfields in the sim, with a lot of vintage airplanes and surrounded by beautiful landscape. That it is owned by Guy Ritchie is a fun bonus =) He has done some fantastic movies! Yeah, it's my favorite time for making videos. And also in real life the best flights are at sunset =)
25:22… The moment the spectators have their hearts in their mouths! Amazing sounds and great flying. I just hope the flickering gunsight is fixed in a patch soon as it drives me to distraction when I’m flying. Great aircraft model otherwise.
Haha if there's a valley next to the airfield it's almost in the law to fly through it 🤪😇 Thank you very much! I'm glad you like it =) I agree the sounds are fantastic. Yeah the flickering glass textures are sadly an issue with many planes in MSFS =/
Please, can I have a little help? My Flight Replicas Tropical Mk-5b has a unique problem and I don't know what to do. The plane does not want to move forward, the brake is lowered but it does not want to move forward. When I press the throttle I end up on the nose of the plane in the ground. I tried to start the flight in the air, but the plane stalled and fell like a brick from the sky. I also tried with the co-pilot, but that also ended with the nose hitting the ground. I have no more options and I'm not sure where I'm going wrong. Please any suggestion is welcome, thank you in advance.
Sorry for the very late response! That is a very strange problem, which I sadly can't replicate. It might be a conflict with another addon. You might wanna try contacting Flight Replicas about that here: www.flight-replicas.com/Contact.htm Hopefully they can help you 🤞
Great video - I’ve picked up the Mk 1 in the sale but notice that as with the P-40N the yaw on pitch up/down seems extreme ( to the point where even full rudder makes straight loops very tricky) is this at the same level in the V (or perhaps this is a similar issue to that on the tropical example?)
Thank you very much! I'm glad you like it =) Yes, sadly that is an issue with the Mk.I since it got an update. On initial release she had very little yaw effect during pitching movements and flew like a dream. Currently she sadly isn't usable for vertical aerobatics. The Mk.V is similar to the P-40 since it's last update (the P-40 didn't have a lot of yaw effects initially either), in that it is very possible to do aerobatics but you need a lot of rudder. At the top of a loop, I have to apply almost full left rudder. I'm enjoying the Mk.V a lot, but I think it would be even more fun and probably more realistic if the yaw effect was tuned down a bit. I think there was a mix-up with the flight model of the Mk.V Trop, as it flies very different to the regular Mk.V and flies almost exactly like the current version of the Mk.I. I'm going to ask the developer about that. We discussed the flight model of the Mk.I and an issue with the P-40 a few weeks ago and he was very approachable and updated the P-40 very quickly. I think with all the detail he adds to his planes, his work is truly remarkable and very obviously a passion project. It would be a shame if it was compromised by a flight model issue.
Very nice! FR has made the most detailed and accurate 3D models of the Spitfire in a sim to date.😁 (Now only if they were available for P3D!)😮💨 Looks like the oil pressure gauge is U/S though. 😜
Thank you! I'm glad you like it 🙂 Yes! The level of detail is incredible. And I love that he modeled all the specific details to each airframe, like the different mirrors, armored windshields, propellers and so on. It's very obviously a passion project! It really reminds me of Warbirdsims P-51s...man do I miss those in MSFS. Good catch! Yeah, the oil pressure reads a bit "low" 😅
I do love the spitfire, I purchased the aeroplane Heaven one, then the flying irons spitfire when that came out, subsequently I haven't used the aeroplane Heaven since getting the flying irons one. If you had to make a choice between this and the flying irons spitfire which would you chose please.
Me too. The Spitfire is one of my favorite airplanes. When it comes to the visual model I would pick the Flight Replicas Spitfire. It's modeled exactly to the blueprints and is probably the most accurate visual representation of a Spitfire in any sim. Flying Irons Spitfire looks fantastic too but is not quite as detailed as Flight Replicas one. When it comes to the flight model the Flight Replicas one is fun, but I prefer Flying Irons one and from what I've read it's also more authentic. Systems wise Flying Irons one is also much deeper modeled, with failures, proper engine management and so on. One thing to keep in mind Flight Replica is representing the Mk.I, Mk.II and Mk.V and Flying Irons is representing the Mk.IX. From memory between a Mk.I and Mk.V about 500 changes were made to the design. If I had to pick just one, I would go for Flying Irons Spitfire. But if you have the disk space I would get the Mk.V too. It's still a great addon at an extremely fair price.
I like it =) The visual model is fantastic, with unique details to almost all paintschemes, like different mirrors, canon barrels, propellers, armored windshields and so on. The sounds are quite good too. The flight model isn't as good as Flying Irons one, but it's still a lot of fun to fly. During aerobatics it does need quite a lot of rudder though. At the top of the loop, I'm using almost full left rudder. I hope that gets tweaked down a bit.
@@johnspurr1792 thank you very much! I'm glad you like it =) From the pilot reports I've read and interviews I've seen, the Spitfire requires a lot of rudder on the ground, especially on takeoff and landing. But is actually quite easy to fly in the air. I've heard a lot of comparisons to the Chipmunk or sentences like "You barely need to touch the controls, it just goes in the direction you're looking too". I've heard that you need to use the rudder constantly with every change in airspeed, but from what I understand these are small inputs. Both the DCS Spitfire and Flying Irons Spitfire are developed with real Spitfire pilots and are supposed to be super close to the real thing. In fact, BBMF have set up a Spitfire simulator using Flying Irons Spitfire and use it for training emergency procedures and display routines. Both the DCS and Flying Irons Spitfire barely need any rudder inputs during loops. The Flying Iron Spitfire has custom ground handling, which makes taxiing, takeoff and landing more challenging and requires a lot of rudder on the ground but once in the air you only need minimal rudder inputs to keep it coordinated. The Flight Replicas Spitfire requires convincing amounts of rudder during takeoff, but in the air, it still requires a lot of rudder to keep it coordinated. During aerobatics or steep turns it is almost impossible to keep the slip indicator in the center. At the top of the loop, I'm using almost full left rudder. In comparison Flying Irons Bf-109 which is also supposed to be very close to the original needs about a 50% rudder deflection at the top of a loop. The real 109 is famous for needing a lot of rudder during vertical maneuvers. That's why I hope the FR Spitfires yaw effect gets tuned down a bit, as you can see it's still very possible to fly aerobatics with it and it is fun to fly, but I think the extreme rudder inputs are not realistic. When the Flight Replicas Spitfire Mk.I was originally released there was almost no need for rudder inputs and it flew like a dream, but was also extremely easy on the ground. After an update it is now close to impossible to do vertical maneuvers without an extreme change in heading (It's much worse compared to the Mk.V). I have to say I would prefer easier ground handling as long as it flies correctly once it is in the air. I think visually it's the best Spitfire we ever had in any sim! It's done exactly to the blueprints. Plus, every version has the added factory or field modifications this particular airframe would have had. When the Mk.I was released I couldn't stop flying it and in fact flew it a lot more than Flying Irons Mk.IX during that time. Since the release of the update, I've flown it 2-3 times. I wish he would just include the old flight model or a similar one as an option, so people can choose what they prefer.
@@vintagesimulations thanks so much for taking the time to explain your comments. I wonder if the difference between the FI / DCS Spitfire and the FR one is more about the Mk V being less powered than the Mk IX engine of the other two?!
@@johnspurr1792 my pleasure =) I thought about that too. But I think if anything the yaw effects should be less pronounced. Even though the Mk.V has a smaller rudder, it also has about 200-300 hp less and a lighter 3 bladed propeller. The Mk.I "only" has around 1000 hp and should probably need even less rudder. There are now incredible 4k zoomed in videos of Spitfires at airshows, I think a full rudder deflection would probably be visible 🤔 But please don't misunderstand me, I don't want to bash Flight Replicas hard work! He did an awesome job, and I wouldn't have made the video if I didn't like his Mk.V. I just think with a tweaking of the flight model it could be even better.
