Everyone talking about Welcome to the Ballroom. Yeah, it brought me here too. I always loved to watch ballroom dancing since I was a child. I started dancing modern ballroom (international standard) in my early teens. Seeing the evolution of the dances from the 1960s to 2020, there are very much differences. The old style demands man upper torso to be straight as a board, can carry a saucer on top of the head without dropping it. Now a days, the upper body of both man and woman going 3 dimensional with great sway and rotation. The new style is more dynamic and fancy, good to watch.
I just wished the gentlemen would keep their mouths closed and not look like they were having excruciatingly painfull bowelmovements when dancing (it was always horrible to see in the latin-part, but now it's invaded ballroom as well. Dance with your feet and body, I am not your dentist I am not interested in your teeth or your facial gymnastics!) Pulling faces is so offputting.
@@muurrarium9460 Men open their mouth when focusing and satisfied in a sports movement, like Michael Jordon stick his tongue out when doing a triple turn layup above 3 opponents. In general I am highly impressed by the dance styles adopted by competitors in the World Dance Sport Federation. (I have only watched the world championships uploaded to TH-cam.) However, to date there are two things that irk me. One is the WDSF Viennese waltz, which seems to lack at least four of the step sequences / enchainements accepted by other dance organisations, while only adding one of its own. The second WDSF problem is the extreme C-line held by danseuses for long periods in many dances. Some arch backwards to the point that they appear to be viewing as much of the ceiling as of the floor! This, in itself, looks silly, but when one bears in mind that duets are essentially expressions of a partnership, and the partners appear to be doing everything possible to avoid catching a glimpse of each other, it becomes ludicrous! (Smelly breath?!) An extraordinarily deep C-line also forces the man to push his own head backwards to preserve balance, thus making him adopt a C-line of a shallower type that is usually adopted by female dancers under the rules of other organisations. The man needs to have his head up (1) to look manly and (2) to see where the couple is going! I would like the WDSF to rein-in the C-line, allowing women to adopt a pose that looks more relaxed, not horribly forced, unnatural, and uncomfortable, and to adapt more internationally accepted Viennese waltz moves to instill some life into its rather boring VW repertoire. (A couple of months ago I was told that I held my torso and upper head too far back in the ballroom disciplines. Correcting this brought immediate improvement to my appearance, and ability to dance well.)
Yes! I was looking for this comment. Because I know nothing about ballroom dancing, I came here to do research for my tango - inspired fire hula hoop routine, but I am thinking to myself... what happened to ballroom dancing? I don't remember them being so forcefully back bent in the past. It looks so silly. They look like wax figurines that don't want to dance together but their pelvis is glued together haha
Sooo... Who's fault was 22:50? 🤔 I always wondered how they never ran into one another in these competitions.. I know the male partner leads, so which guy wasn't paying attention well enough??
Couple 502, for quickstep you pause in the middle while using the outside to run the floor, you should be doing counterclockwise around the floor and never cutting through it or you will smack someone. The lead always decides where to travel but there are etiquette rules. Like not stopping in quickstep on the edge of the floors (besides the corners which are okay). If someone is in your way it is your responsibility to move around them, even if they are standing still or even if they're being crazy and going against the line of dance (clockwise). So to provide synopsis, it's the fault of the moving couple, 502.
I agree with you, their energy is so strong and their body movements is really great.
