    Incredible how Tscharnke climbs this hill

      How many times have skiers had great climbs and friend themselves? Northug climbed the same hill and blasted by the other hill climbers who had nothing left. Sadly, it looks like Northug will not be in South Korea for this Olympics. I hope I'm wrong.

      I was a country skier in my youth an competing with Tscharnke. He was so focused and working like a horse. 1 year later we went to sports boarding school, don't know how you call it english. From then on he dominated all competitions and we just called him "the beast". I'm so grateful watching this competition again and again and thinking about that we had been on a same level these times. You're the beast. Thanks Tim

    Amazing sprint by Northug. Quad damage indeed.

  • @jodasaatte80
    @jodasaatte80 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Seeing this just makes me realize how much better the sprint skiers are today now that the sprint has been around for a while and most distance races are about having a sprint finish. Northug barely pushes the tempo here and the others are not even close to challenge him. That was also the case in distance events around this time up to a few years ago, the mediocrity of the others just makes Northugs speed look so incredibly dominant. This level would not be near good enough today with the Klaebos and Pellegrinos etc. The younger generation is so much faster and better technically. Northug is a pioneer for the modern X country skiing, for good and bad.

    • @bobroberts5820
      @bobroberts5820 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Northug has proven capable of beating Ustiugov/Pellegrino and co before retiring though. I don't think he'd be the favorite against any top 5 2020 sprinter but I also don't think it would be entirely one sided.
      His raw talent and short term power was truly remarkable and had he been born at the same age as Klaebo I think their sprinting rivalry would be truly great.
      It's important to remember this is a team sprint, significantly more fatiguing than a normal sprint and consequentially it's harder to put in big digs near the end.

    • @dapaulson1
      @dapaulson1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      How do you feel sorry for Teichmann. When Northug lost he would say he was the first or second loser. Winners do not need sympathy and losers certainly don't. Teichmann was simply not in Northug's league.

  • @davd1986

    @ineedaname0608 I agree. I think the two Russian guys, Sedov and Belov will threaten Northug. Right now though, Hellner and Cologna are his main rivals. Teichmann is getting old, Angerer is even older. Swedes and Russians are gonna be Northugs main rivals for years to come, along with Tscharnke and maybe one or two others (Musgrave, perhaps?).

    • @dapaulson1
      @dapaulson1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Clearly your crystal ball was broken. Now that we have history behind us...as history will always be...we know that Northug was the standard by which all skiers of his generation will be measured.

    lol, you completely missed the point. As sprint is a sprint, no matter which sport (although is some sports obviously there's no such thing as a sprint). A sprint is ALWAYS short. Everything above 20-30 seconds cannot be called a sprint. (even if the pace is still extremely fast). Same for skating, cycling etc.

    • @dapaulson1
      @dapaulson1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Any sport can define itself. It doesn't have to define it's own contests in the context of other sports. Especially cross courntry skiing, which is clearly one or two of the toughest sports in the world.

  • @ineedaname0608
    @ineedaname0608 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    Jeg hatter northug. he is the worst. there is just something freaky and unfair about his skiing. Tscharnke is one of my big hopes for beating Northug. Lykke til.

  • @EquuleusPictor
    @EquuleusPictor 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    For me an event which takes 3-4 minutes to compete (as it takes for one skier to finish one leg) cannot be called "sprint". It's more akin to a middle distance endurance event, like 1500 m running, say, but definitely not a sprint.
