A very heartfelt reaction ❤! Michael Cooper on lead vocals. I see 👁👁 that you have reacted to Con Funk Shun before: Love's Train- Audio and Love Train- Live. Straight From the Heart was released as the second single from Con Funk Shun's 1981 album: 7. It was written by Felton Pilate and Nita Wells-Pilate. It was produced by Con Funk Shun. The song reached #79 on the R&B chart. No music video was produced for the song.
    Lyrics 🗒:
There's a spell on my mind
    And you're to blame
    Nothing else in my life
    Will ever be the same
    It must be love
For this is nothing that I won't do
    For the love of you
    From now on
Every thing that I have is yours forever
This is straight from the heart
    No one could ever doubt
My love will last till the end of time
    Of time
    What am I to do
With the love I found (With the love I found)
    I can't believe that you
    Completely turned my world around
    Don't you know
I'll pull a star from the sky for you
    If you want me to
    Say the word
And I will love you until a day
    Last forever
This is straight from the heart
    No one could ever doubt
(My love) My love will last till the end of time
    Of time
    Ooh...ooh...ooh...ooh...ooh...ooh...ooh...ooh...ooh...
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, this is straight from the heart
    No one could ever doubt
(My love) My love will last till the end of time (Time)
Oh, this is straight from the heart
    No one could ever doubt
(My love) My love will last till the end of time (Time) Oh...oh...
This is straight from the heart
    No one could ever doubt
    (My love) My love
    Con Funk Shun Info 📰:
Con Funk Shun, formerly known as Project Soul, is a R&B and Funk band whose popularity began in the mid-1970s and ran through the 1980s. They were influenced by Funk legend James Brown and Sly And The Family Stone. The band was signed to Mercury Records in 1976 after releasing two albums on Freton Records in 1973. Con Funk Shun would go on to enjoy a decade of successful national and overseas tours, eleven chart-topping albums, and numerous hit singles on Mercury Records. The band has appeared on television music variety shows Solid Gold, Soul Train and American Bandstand promoting their music. The group formally disbanded in 1987 due to internal group issues.
The band began in 1969 as "Project Soul", formed by Louis A McCall Sr (drums/percussion/vocals) and Michael Cooper (rhythm guitar/lead vocals), both of whom were high school students in Vallejo, California. By 1971, the band also included bassist Cedric Martin, keyboardist Danny "Sweet Man" Thomas, trumpeter Karl Fuller, and woodwinds player Paul "Maceo" Harrell. Soon thereafter, this fledgling group's classic lineup became complete when lead vocals/multi-instrumentalist Felton Pilate came on board. The band independently released a single in 1972 as Project Soul called: Ebony, with the B-side song: Sweet Things Of Life.
Later, in 1972, the seven musicians formed a new band, calling themselves: "Con Funk Shun", after a song of the same name by the instrumental ensemble: The Nite-Liters. The band members then relocated to Memphis, Tennessee in 1973 when they were hired to back up Stax Records artists The Soul Children. There, they came to the attention of Estelle Axton who signed them to her "Fretone Records" record label. Their debut album: Organized Con Funk Shun, was released in 1973. They went to Japan for a live performance in 1975.
In 1976, Con Funk Shun was signed to Mercury Records, and then went on to release eleven albums over a span of ten years. The band's 1977 album: Secrets, was certified Gold in the United States, as was their 1978 album: Loveshine and the band's 1979 album: Candy, and the 1980 album: Spirit Of Love.
The band scored a string of top ten hit songs on the R&B chart including: "Ffun" (No. 1 in 1978), "Shake And Dance With Me" (No. 5 in 1978), "Chase Me" (No. 4 in 1979), "Got To Be Enough" (No. 8 in 1980), "Too Tight" (No. 8 in 1981), "Baby, I'm Hooked (Right into Your Love)" (No. 5 in 1983) and "Electric Lady" (No. 4 in 1985). The band's singles:"Ffun" (#23 Pop) and "Too Tight" (#40 Pop) were the group's only songs that crossed over onto the top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100; 2 others did make the chart, while 4 of their songs hit the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart.
Tensions from within the group built over the 1980s, and the band's final album: Burning Love, was recorded without multi instrument-vocalist and songwriter Felton C Pilate. After disappointing album sales, Mercury invoked its "key member clause" and dropped the band from the record label.
Michael Cooper then moved on to a solo run with Warner Bros Records. Michael Cooper had an R&B hit song with the single: "To Prove My Love" in 1987. The remaining original members tried to continue, but repeated efforts with new lead singers fell short, and they ceased performing and recording as Con Funk Shun in 1987.
Felton C Pilate became the in-house record producer and songwriter for MC Hammer and his record label Bust It Records. He worked on several albums for the company, including MC Hammer's 1990 album: "Please Hammer, Don't Hurt 'Em", as well as on the record label's group Special Generation's 1990 debut album: Take It To The Floor. Lead singer Michael Cooper embarked on a successful career as a solo artist, releasing his solo debut album: Love Is Such A Funny Game, on Warner Bros Records in 1987. He also released the albums: Just What I Like (1989) and Get Closer (1992), on Warner Bros Records' sister label Reprise Records.
In 1993, the band started appearing together as Con Funk Shun again with sidemen in the place of the original members. The new band appeared at old school festivals and nostalgia concert shows throughout the country.
In 1996, the band performed on "Sinbad's Summer Jam: Second Annual 70's Soul Music Festival" which featured live performances by prominent Soul and Funk musicians-bands from the 1970s including: Al Green, Kool & The Gang, Chaka Khan, Tower Of Power, Lakeside, The Gap Band and more. The festival aired on HBO.
The band's co-founder Louis A McCall Sr 🙏🏾was murdered in 1997 during a home invasion robbery in Stone Mountain, Georgia. His wife, Linda Lou McCall, fought to keep the case active for eleven years, even asking the Governor of Georgia to assist in reopening the case in 2003. Finally, a suspect was indicted in 2007 in connection with the murder, but it took another year before the case made it to trial on July 21, 2008, with 29-year-old Marques Clair named as the defendant. Marques Clair was originally arrested with another suspect in Louis A McCall Sr's slaying in 1999, but prosecutors had dropped the charge due to the District Attorney's refusal to bring the case before a jury with insufficient evidence.
Just two days after the start of Marques Clair's murder trial, the proceedings were halted by Superior Court Judge Gregory Adams. A spokeswoman for the DeKalb County Georgia district attorney's office, Jada Hudspeth, stated that the suspension of the trial was "based on an omission" of information. Jada Hudspeth said that District Attorney, Gwen Keyes Fleming, and her staff would evaluate the evidence in the case before deciding whether to retry Marques Clair. On August 7, 2008, after a mistrial was declared, the charges against Marques Clair were formally dismissed with prejudice. As the late Louis A McCall Sr was born in Alameda, California, his name was chosen in April 2014 by the Alameda City Planning Board to be used for one of the street names in the proposed residential community, Alameda Landing.
Michael Cooper would release two more solo albums in the 2000s: This Heart Of Mine (2001) and Are We Cool (2004).
In 2012, TV One produced an Unsung episode on Con Funk Shun. All of the surviving original band members participated in the TV One episode.
On September 21, 2014, Louis A McCall Sr and the other six members of Con Funk Shun were honored by the National R&B Music Society with a Lifetime Achievement Award at a black tie dinner and award ceremony in Atlantic City, New Jersey. At the same event, Louis A McCall Sr's wife Linda Lou McCall was presented with the "Unsung Heroine" award for her key role in the success of Con Funk Shun and her continued role in keeping the group's legacy alive, in addition to her tireless contribution to R&B music for over four decades. Linda Lou McCall co-wrote some songs for the group with her husband Louis A McCall Sr.
In 2015, the band's album: More Than Love, was released. Three of the original band members, Michael Cooper, Felton C Pilate and Karl Fuller, toured as Con Funk Shun.
In 2017, Con Funk Shun celebrated their 45th anniversary with 4 sold out shows at Yoshi's in Oakland, California.
Con Funk Shun still performs their music live on stage in 2024.
