    Love this honest feedback. That is definitely relatable and not something that people talk about that much. the high 2' - mid 300hp cars are a ton of fun still and you can drive them on the daily without feeling like you can't explore their limits. Keep having fun while you have it.

    man this is the best honest review. I have been on the fence between spending high dollar g80 m3 vs a e92 m3 that would still give me $ space to SC etc. even with the e92s going up in price, with a EES G1 SC and etc would still not be in g80 price point. i also prefer a car i can work on without worrying about it.

      Thanks Tony! I’ve driven BMWs for years and I’ll be honest…yes I’m very nostalgic, but I love the oldies. And where prices are going these days it definitely takes the fun out of it. Believe it or not…I ended up trading in the g80 for an F90 M5 and I’m so afraid of pushing it due to the price tag. I really miss my e36 m3

    I own a G80 '23 arrived November.
    This is my philosophy: If you spend over $60k for a car, you better abuse the hell out of that car, on the simple fact that its a depreciating asset and you can't quantify happiness. In other words its a bad investment to begin with, or rather not an investment. If you want an investment buy a vacation home for rentals and/or go index. Having said that this is what you do:
    1) DILSI (Drive it like you stole it).
    2) Don't worry about the chips on body paint....in fact don't wash the damn thing till you trade it in. (Last time I washed my car was in college)
    3) Never look at the gas gauge till it requires for gas.
    4) Save some money for lawyers/speeding tickets....might have to write an exam again to avoid a suspended license.
    5) Take it on Track when you have the chance, tell the wife you did not find whole milk so you had to drive 45+ miles to find some.
    6) Trade in right after warranty. Buy and REPEAT (Who cares if you loss some $ in trade-in/depreciation, its a zero sum game(You lose either way).
    Hope this helps, enjoy. See you on the free way!

    sounds like you should of got an f80 m4m if you go to the s65 get ready for a problem child love hate relationship. This was valuable information and something ive been wondering about. its actually the deciding factor in choosing the m3x over the m3m and just keeping an old school e30 manual for the canyons

    • @DeShawnsgarage
      @DeShawnsgarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      In hindsight I would have ordered the auto competition which is what my initial build was but switched to manual before it went into production. I ended up trading it in for an F90 M5. A totally different feel but I wanted an auto AWD car and the dealer had the M5 sitting for a bit and I think it made sense to trade in the G80…especially since I previously rolled in a bunch of negative equity.

    2022 G80 6MT right here! Agreed; the car is ridiculously powerful. If you see the shift lights in 3rd you’re hauling a$$. For me I do a lot of family road trips so it’s a luxury sport sedan that gets a lot of use in the summer! Also had an F80 6MT. It’s a smaller more edgy version of the G80. E92 will drain your pockets with gas. I bet more than a 4.0 X5

      P-zeros; I rate the grip for aggressive street driving an 8. Very good on throttle making a turn if you’re smooth. I run 34 PSI and I’m in Connecticut. Got my G82 M4 6MT in October. Great car on the streets; can feel like a luxury vehicle at slower speeds, but once on the track it’s a complete monster. Almost 3k miles on mine and I’ve begun shifting it to a track centric build. Feels great to rev the car out on a track. 💯 Told myself it would be mainly stock but that train has left the station haha. Definitely an expensive car to throw warranty out the window with but no regrets!

      @DeShawnsgarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the feedback. I’m sorry worried about taking it on the track. I’d hate to lose control and end up in a wall at this price tag but I hear ya…on the track is where you could actually feel the real power without being concerned with flashing blue lights in the rear view mirror.

    • @AlanGo
      @AlanGo ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DeShawnsgarage Your point is completely valid and the majority of people who buy a G80 or G82 will never track the car. My cousin has the automatic G80 competition and after driving it, it's safe to say it's a very plain and boring car. The torque difference is there but it's not the same as rowing your own gears. You made the right choice going with a manual. Can still have loads of fun engagement with it on the streets and do small pulls here and there.

  • @brandonchism6960

    Nice vid man! Your review makes me feel the need to put up a 40k mile review on my car. Interesting view on grabbing an E9X versus the G80. I do agree in that I would likely enjoy an older platform quite a bit more. But I tend to gravitate towards BMW inline 6 engines over everything else in their catalog. I also agree that the power of the older stuff is more fun to ring out. I previously owned: E36 M3, Boss 302, 997 C2S, and a Mk 7.5 GTI for “fun cars.” The G80 is the most powerful and most useable, but nowhere near the most fun to drive. My dream daily would be an E34 M5, but the prices have skyrocketed for a decent one.

    • @DeShawnsgarage
      @DeShawnsgarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Brandon for the feedback! I was trying to being honest. The car is beyond a beast but to really push the car means that you going way over 100mph and that’s not practical on the street. My first M was an e36 and to this day….my favorite. Hopefully I can get another one at some point in the future.

      @@DeShawnsgarage I appreciate the honesty man. I think I owned my E36 too early in my car journey. I loved that car, but hadn’t really come to appreciate absolutely neutral handling yet. I have fond memories, but my skillset was not at the level to really appreciate it… plus I was in North Dakota when I owned that car. I didn’t have the roads that I have access to now. I'm kind of having a similar debate as you. I've been debating e92/e90 or f80 or g80 m3, the only thing holding me back from the older models is that the g80 has a much nicer interior and better technology. I'm in an older car now and I want that upgrade in tech, but the price tag is pretty insane. Might watch used prices and wait till they're closer to $65K

    • @DeShawnsgarage
      @DeShawnsgarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the feedback Craig. The interior is absolutely insane! The tech is sick. I’ve never been in an e92 or F80 but I’ve seen the interior and both pale in comparison. Even in the jump from the F80 to the G80…I still feel it’s night and day. But at the end of the day the price has to make sense. For me the interior was a plus. I wanted to get back into an M car after my e36 and e46 and I really wanted to experience an M car that was new and not one with 100k miles (because in the past that was the only way I could afford to get into one).

    • @DeShawnsgarage
      @DeShawnsgarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      I feel like an older M would be a better “use” of the power for street driving. I don’t track. Can’t really push this thing at all on the local roads. But the feel is so amazing. lol

    Love the G80 M3 but agree with you the cost is extreme especially with interest rates on PCP deals being so high. I've had a F90 M5 comp for 2 years now and you can pick up a used one for sub $75k which is better value than a new M3 in my opinion.
