  • Grains Bar is on the outskirts of Oldham with a convenient free car park off Ship Lane. It's a popular area for local walks. Besom Country Park is particularly prominent with it's majestic steel cross on top of Besom Hill with views of four counties. Lancashire, Yorkshire, Cheshire and Derbyshire. A good place to start our ascent up to Bishops Monument and then beyond.

One of the benefits of TH-cam, ive lived in Oldham all my life, Chadderton, It would be nice to spend more time 'up there' but as a wheelchair user i can see a lot of it being a bit difficult to get around., Videos like this give me a chance to see parts i might not see otherwise.

Hello Mark. I was so pleased to read how seeing my video helps you keep in touch with places you can't get to. I also know Chadderton area. I hope we can walk in similar places.

Having been brought up in High Crompton, Shaw, I really enjoyed this. I’m ashamed to say I’ve never been in Bishops Park although been passed it many times. Glorious views.

Hi Margaret. Saw your comments from our walk to Grains Bar. We did this quite a while ago hence not seeing your message before. It's easy to miss local places as potential walking areas. We never seem to run out of ideas for places, or rather Michael is the one to choose most areas. Hope you may have the chance to explore. Thanks for watching.

Those emus were unexpected and I don't think often seen. Glad helpful information.

Loved this walk...a proper walk, taking time to have a look at things, not racing around....Thanks Steven

Thanks Steve. I know what you mean. It's an advantage to be able to have time to stop, savour, and see where one is walking.

The highest point in Oldham....a great fact that 🙂! I used to nip up to Bishop Park quite often but haven't been for a while. This has made me want to go up again. I'm also very pleased that Michael recognised the proper Lancashire and Yorkshire border, I totally agree👍.

Interesting you agree with Michael about borderlines, but both of you are familiar with that area. The highest point in Oldham I read whilst researching under Besom Hill for information, so hope that's correct. All the best Chris.👍

Aside from the barking dogs, quite a serene walk, not far from city life! 👨 Thanks for sharing.

Well I suppose that's life. Not always serene. Thanks for watching, and commenting.

I did chuckle at Michael's comment about any right-minded person knowing Saddleworth is in West Riding of Yorkshire! 😂 Lots of dogs again en route I see. Glad they were friendly 😃 Nice to hear a little of Michael's family history on the way too. I guess horses must have been a lot smaller when that bridleway was created! 🤣 Another lovely walk Shanita, all the best 👍

Hello Patrick. Good to hear from you and hope enjoying your break from filming. Thanks for watching all the events on our walk. Yes, we seem to get all kinds of interruptions on our walk, hopefully captures a bit of humour en route. Best wishes 🙂👍

That looks like a nice walk, we have only been to Tandle Hill Park on the other side of Oldham.
Brilliant shots of the inverted clouds and some great views. Nice synthy music Shanita, I must start using more synthesizer sounds.

Hi Steve. Grains Bar is local to us, and as I had already taken photos of the inverted clouds before, was glad to be able to use them to illustrate the occasion. Ran our of slow music for this film so resorted to an upbeat tempo for a change with synthesisers. Thanks for watching.
