      I've said it a while and I continue to keep saying.
      The exchange between Terry Colins and Tom Hallion; that video needs to be required viewing to any wannabe MLB umpire on how to handle an escalated situation like this. Hallion handled it cool when Colins was on his profanity-laced tirade. Would any of you handle it any better than Hallion?
      I know I wouldn't.

      Earl Weaver and an umpire (can't remember his name) were wired one game and got ejected over a call at the plate and went on a profanity fuled rant accusing the umpire of putting his finger on him.

    The argument between the terry guy and tommy is for some reason wholesome to me… Clearly both are very good friends on a personal level and watching tommy run over to throw the other two sharks away from terry who was clearly on a rampage was admirable! tommy knew exactly how to handle terry and didn’t want to see him get ejected or tuned up. Lastly, terry turning around and sayin “YOUR BETTER THAN THAT TOMMY” was when i knew they both respect each other.

    2:40 This Ump deserves alot of credit for keeping his cool

    • @alltheDCteams
      @alltheDCteams 5 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      He "kept his cool" because he knew it was the wrong call to throw Syndergaard out. Who ever heard of an ump throwing a (top) pitcher out in the first inning for a pitch that went behind a batter (but didn't even hit him) without a warning first?? I believe that ump didn't agree with the call, but understandably he has to back up the HP ump's decision.

      @@alltheDCteams Nah man. The umpires get a briefing from MLB before games like this. They were almost certainly told to have zero tolerance for this by the league before the game. This was the first game they had after Chase Utley broke their SS leg in the playoffs the previous year. They threw at him the first chance they got and the league probably told the umpire it would happen and to respond with an ejection.

      1979: Lost to Pirates (again) 4 games to 3
      Total w/l record in WS: 11-13. Oh well, Earl isn't in the HOF for his mathematical skills (or lack thereof) :)

      @@transitfan954Earl was talking about his overall managerial record, which both at that point in ’80 and at the end of his career, he was right about. He had won more than he lost. He managed 2,540 games, going 1480-1060, or .583. Those who live in mathematically inaccurate houses should not cast the first digit.

      My only beef is the strike 3 call was right down the middle. I would be more upset with Cabrera taking that pitch on 3 and 2 in a tie game. Make an effort to at least try and foul it off. Thats poor situational hitting.

    Dude both strikes to Cabrera in the first clip were picture perfect high strikes! No argument there! Also explain to me how you can tell from the dugout whether it was off the plate. I get if its high or low, but from a side view, you cannot tell where it was on the plate!

    • @vpartha23
      @vpartha23 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Patrick Wilson i remember watching this live on tv and the moment that 3-1 pitch was called a strike I knew shit was gonna hit the fan. The reason why was Vic Carapazza (the ump) had not called that pitch the entire game, then all of a sudden rung up Cabrera on two in a row. You’re right, theoretically they’re strikes. But consistency is huge in umpiring

    • @patrickwilson3835
      @patrickwilson3835 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vpartha23 And I get that but at the same time, if they miss some earlier in the game, that doesnt make that less of a strike. That whole mentality in baseball is ridiculous. Umps are gonna miss a few, they're human. By that logic, no player should ever strike out. People say thats the umpires job, well its also the players job to hit the ball so...
