hello, just a tip for the raised beds, im an agricultural engineer and I knw for sure that the horse compost is highly alkaline so what you guys have to do is just mix the soil medium with ordinary soil that is a bit acidic(soil that is brighter in color for example) that will neutralise just a bit the soil medium you guys have. I hope that you consider my tip, also for some tips on what to grow, its not too late to grow lots of types of vegies for example: tubers, kale, parsley, lettuce, cabbage, icebergs, tomatoes... subscribe to LDSpepper on youtube he gives loads of tips and tutorials. Love your videos, keep it up.

Veggies to plant (IMO): Radishes: they can grow in almost any climate and are super easy to care for Rosemary: tasty, fairly hardy and smells great Cilantro: if you dont have the gene that makes it taste like soap Carrots: yummy, hardy, dont take up much space Lemons/ Limes: take up more space but the amount you get can be impressive Mint: small plant, big yield Thyme: thyme and time are two things you can never have too much of Chard and Spinach: great all around plants, easy to grow, relatively hardy Kale: if you don't hate it it is a good source of vitamins Parsley: small plant, high yield Basil: not very hardy but is delicious Good luck and I hope you guys love the garden!!!!

I just started building a greenhouse for my wife who is in a wheelchair. Were in the same boat, trial and error! :). We bought an indoor greenhouse stand to grow our seedlings in before transplanting into our greenhouse. Very handy and saves the plant if a late frost comes.
I was WRAPPED to see this in my TH-cam feed this morning! Start with planting vegetables you really love to eat and ones that mature faster such as lettuce and other loose greens. Then progress onto some of the slightly trickier perennials like asparagus once the beds settle a little. Great video and one of the best you've done (but I'm a bit biased) cheers 😉👍

dont go with single crop, use multiple crops with different times of harvest. by that way, you will get engaged in the gardening work continuously. preferable crop selection should be the ones which are natives to your region.

Permaculture Permaculture Permaculture is a real future for sustainable human development and do it your style. Make yourself a Biochar pit (one of the best things you can do for this world near to your compost pile worm farm. Grow a food forest. Make a bio digester and cook off the gas you produce. Turn that overgrazed wasteland back into a forest of redwoods
If you want gardening tips I'd recommend putting a line of copper around the top of the boards (keeps the snails out). Also try burying some conkers in each corner (somehow keeps out the spiders). You could also plant a bunch of Marigolds to keep out other insects. For plants I'd recommend nasturtiums (edible and pretty) as well as mint or cabbage
If you happen to read 4 month old comments, the farmer's almanac is incredibly useful for beginner all the way to experienced gardeners. I've found it especially useful their lists of what crops grow well or badly near each other as some plants can really poorly effect others.

You can plant any vegetables that dont require digging out such as potatoes. Those would be better in 30 litre containers that you can tip out. Lettuces, cabbage, carrots, onions, suedes, brocoli, peas (will require a growing frame), & depending on how warm your climate is perhaps also tomatoes, cucumber, melons & peppers? But you may need a greenhouse for those. Herbs are also easy to grow but avoid mint as that will spread. Put it in a container if you want that. Be aware of pests & diseases such as blight, club root (crop rotation is important) & insects such as carrot fly, allium leafminer, thrips, aphids, etc. You could also plant some dwarf fruit trees & a grapevine.
Great idea ! I dream on a small garden from years, but not only I never had support from close ones, but also doubt about possibilities to do this in the wheelchair. Now, I'm even more motivated and keep dreaming until the dream might get real. Thanks for this !
Also true about oregano, mint and rhubarb- all will spread and take over. Strawberries and rhubarb are also perennials and will come back the following year.
Be carefull while growing vegetables, each one needs different amounts of water, for example if you water tomatoes to much, they might rot on the stem, and if you dont give cucumbers a ton of water they will become sour. Also, if you are thinking about growing herbs be carefull how you position them, for example oregano can taste verry minty if they are planted right next to each other.

Be carefull while growing vegetables, each one needs different amounts of water, for example if you water tomatoes to much, they might rot on the stem, and if you dont give cucumbers a ton of water they will become sour. Also, if you are thinking about growing herbs be carefull how you position them, for example oregano can taste verry minty if they are planted right next to each other.
Don't plant mint. It will get everywhere.
