These Plymouths were great cars, super reliable, super rugged, and through 1951, almost completely rust-proof, and good on gas even though they weren't available with overdrive, yet could easily cruise at 65.

Why did the Companies quit making them this way? A beautiful, dependable car that won't fall apart even if you take care of it. I understand the tech in the engine, but there is nothing wrong with the rest of it.

The motoring public, due to constantly rising incomes, started demanding ever fancier ever faster ever bigger cars in the low-priced field, and the automakers, knowing that fancier cars means higher profits, gladly followed their wishes. Also, the industry-wide horsepower race soon made 6 cylinder cars "Old Lady Cars", and nobody, not even old ladies, wanted an old lady's car. I would gladly buy a car like this, but today's yuppies and tech-lovers absolutely refuse to buy a car without power steering, power brakes, automatic transmission, AC, power windows, power seat, power antenna, etc. etc. etc., and they are the majority of the car buying public.

Thank fuel economy, safety, and emission standards for much of this.

Did you let the radio warm up? Remember, it has tubes, not transistors. No "Instant On" here.
