Two years ago I was here, having found my "Bob Ross" of the gardening world, being inspired to get out and make mistakes and learn with what I had... as long as I got going. Now I'm excited to enter year three, having 6 beds I built myself along side you, filled with compost that I cultivated myself, as you've shown me. I've seen your channel grow into something much more, just as my empty patch of land. Here's to what 2025 has to bring us all, and all the possibilities at will of our hands and land!
I indoor garden and my coffee from 2015 from hirts garden berries are ripe in February zone 5 NY. Citrus also blooms in winter, smells of lily. Coffee flowers smell of citrus.
Love going out into the garden, shed, greenhouse, during the colder days of winter prepareing the area, ground for the growing season. Start early indoors transfer and take care of the bounty to produce products from the hard work. Love sitting out each morning thinking of people who spend there hrs sleeping the day away.
so many people would probably be trying to figure out how to keep critters out of their leaf pile. i love that your logic is... well i won't be using it for at least a year, so let's leave some space so they can get in to keep warm!
I like the way you have it terrace the garden into the hillside it has given me ideals on how to increase my garden space. Thanks for going though all the season. I still have much to learn.
Great that you included tables! I would love a video on what crops to plant before and after other crops in order to get two or even three harvests a year. Tables with possible combinations would be great for people with limited space. Apart from looking for hard facts like that I watch your videos for pure enjoyment. Thanks a lot and Merry Christmas!
I absolutely love this! I've watched all the videos prior, but the compilation is perfect, especially this time of year. Most of us are gearing up for the beginning of the year and garden season. Most of my seeds, potatoes, and sweet potatoes are ordered/ saved. Beds put to rest snuggled in with leaves, compost, cardboard, and manure. Now, the planning and seed starting begins. I usually jump the gun on starting some seeds too soon, but your "calendar " helps with the timeline. I just need to adjust the planting out times. Thank you!
Try growing some winter hardy veg. Garlic is good and simple to grow in the winter, just plant the cloves and cover with leaves in garden or box. Don't water after first sown. Try it loverly fresh garlic late spring.
Cheered me right up, thanks 👍 and given me the kick I need to get out there again. The recent storms and neglect ( oops) my garden looks like a herd of bullocks have snuck in and had a party
Great compilation. Got our first snow here in Nova Scotia. A Nor’easter. Over a foot of snow and still going. Gardening videos are coping mechanisms. Lol
i needed a Ben and Rosie video today , really enjoyed it i have been looking at what seeds to get for next year this very afternoon thankyou for my gardening fix. merry christmas xx
That is a really good guide to a year in the garden!🤩 I wish that my alyssum was any good. It was in flowers all summer, but I never saw any insects - they preferred the verbena two meters away :/
I love that temp range list you showed. Where can I get this to print out for my garden binder? I'm also a first year subscriber to the growveg app which is absolutely a great resource. Thank you so much!
I have potatoes growing in a pail in my livingroom., I planted them on Nov.15,they are about 3ft. tall now, anybody have an idea as to how long before they would be ready to harvest. I have never grown potatoes before. These plants really look good Merry Christmas
Great video as always thanks so much! Wondering what USDA zone this would be for, Im in zone 9 so I can grow annuals all year long and fruit trees wih 400 or less chill hours
As far as hand polllinating my squash flowers go, my male and female flowere never opened together! But I only grew one plant. Next time I will grow more of the same plants
Hi Ben I realized today why my seedlings were not doing great when I put them into bigger pots: take it by the leaves !! It was "my ha-ha or duh moment " 😅 and I noticed too you sow many flower seeds in just one pot. I shall do that next time and not my stingy way using 3 seeds!
Anyone out there use heat mats intended for reptiles? I'm new to starting seedlings and happen to have some of these mats around. I'll probably use the mats, even if I have to modify with seedings on/seedlings off, but would love to hear any experiences. Have you used these, Ben, and if not, what are your thoughts?
I have couch grass, too. I pull/ dig as much as I can, then put a layer of cardboard and woodchip down. In seed beds, I dig as much out as I can, then lay cardboard and a good layer of compost, 3-4" on top. It helps.
Seaweed works as a substitute for fish emulsion. Also contains lots of trace minerals. You can just forage it yourself if you have any bodies of water nearby. Bladderwrack is great, for example.
Do U find with raised beds that the soil is hard to keep moist? I do ho dig and give home made compost every year but struggle with keep soil moist in summer
I would like a breakdown of planting in new climate trends, for instance plants to survive weeks of downpours of rain and manage to be fertilized when pollinators stay in their homes and not rot if they do manage to set fruit. It will be years of trial and error otherwise. Or planting for strong winds. I suppose that is garden design with wind breaks. Brits are master gardeners and should have all the answers for growing in New England. Our climates so very similar.
Best bet for this is hunt out local gardeners/allotment or even farms and ask them what works or does not work in your area. Many plants or vegetables can be listed as being able to grow in your conditions but not all of them will, local knowledge is king here - or you can go trial and error but you will end up with some trials going that route.
😂😂😂 i do not UNDERSTAND HOW : People from your POSTS PRETEND TO BE " GARDENERS " in one way or another beginer/enthusiasts/hobbie...etc... BUT THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS " HYDROPONIC SYSTEM " 😂😂😂 🤣🤣🤣
That annoying big-TV-like background music has finally ended my patience. I hate big TV and scorn those TH-camrs who try to imitate it. It's about time to unsubscribe.
Ben,I pray you don’t mind me sharing this here. If so,please delete it. I saw questions about moisture in raised beds. This is the absolute best I have ever seen. What a wonderful, positive comment! All the best for a great growing season 👍
In a colder climate, November-March are for wishing it was warm enough to garden and spending tons of money on seeds and supplies 😂
I indoor garden and my coffee from 2015 from hirts garden berries are ripe in February zone 5 NY. Citrus also blooms in winter, smells of lily. Coffee flowers smell of citrus.
It's good to find someone who is easy to listen to and has a good way of explaining things.
You grow citrus in NY? Cool, i wonder how@Skitdora2010
Ha! I spend November through March canning, fermenting, drying, threshing and dehydrating everything, then prep for planting.
Then next year it's a week earlier or later. Old month by month adages are changing too fast to be useful.
Excellent summation that really helps a first time gardener "see" their year and how doing it right in the beginning provides great results.
This will be an all time classic veg growing video. Great effort.
I truly enjoy watching and learning from you. I live in Texas USA and can garden most of the year. Thank you so much for your willingness to teach.
NE TX for me, very similar climate to his
@ I’m in Huntsville 👋🏻
@ north of Jefferson

Very helpful for first time veg grower thank you! Handy reference and as all your videos - inspiring. Will garden with a bit of confidence now!

Oh so beautiful you garden 😊
It was negative 11F with hoarfrost this morning. Happy Winter Solstice!
And I AM COLD WHEN MY HOUSE IS 73°!!! Used to live in New York but moved to AZ in 1992!
Great compilation. Got our first snow here in Nova Scotia. A Nor’easter. Over a foot of snow and still going. Gardening videos are coping mechanisms. Lol
Excellent! Thank you! 💚
I really like this channel, great information. I'm a small channel and just getting started.

Always good to find one's shoe.
There’s nothing like watching seeds transform into thriving plants; it’s pure magic! 🌱❤️
Love this longer format videos, specially with all of this information.
I've used small christmas lights/faerie lights for alternate heat mats!
Unfortunately I have a lot of snow between november to may, that comment about weeks was a little optimistic! 😄
That’s a shame. I was thinking weeks was too pessimistic. Snow lasts a few days if we’re lucky here.
@@aname5267 That sounds like a dream come true. A few years ago we had hail on the first of June here in Finland.
Tell Rosie I said hi! ❤

I love the drone shots.
you are great

take a screen shot
Thank you so much 💐 where can I find the “table of temperatures to saw”

It has been so warm for so long that my lettuce all bolted. After the new year I will plant again hopefully to cooler temps!

21:59 where have you bought that pest control thing from.!

I use a small heated blanket. Works just fine.
Hi Ben, could you advise me on how to get rid of couch grass that is growing rampantly in my raised beds? Thank you 🤗
I have this issue too...constantly trying to keep it under control by digging it up
Also bits of bindweed which keeps popping up
I have couch grass, too. I pull/ dig as much as I can, then put a layer of cardboard and woodchip down. In seed beds, I dig as much out as I can, then lay cardboard and a good layer of compost, 3-4" on top. It helps.
What else can I use instead of blood, fish, and bone ?
Seaweed works as a substitute for fish emulsion. Also contains lots of trace minerals. You can just forage it yourself if you have any bodies of water nearby. Bladderwrack is great, for example.
Do U find with raised beds that the soil is hard to keep moist? I do ho dig and give home made compost every year but struggle with keep soil moist in summer
Water in the evening, ( not full sun) the plants will absorbe the water over the evening sustaining through the daytime.
@martynsmith9482 thanks for the information helps a lot
@markshaw5835 happy growing season.
@martynsmith9482 same to you
Do you mulch your beds? It's always a good idea to keep the ground covered to prevent evaporation.
Can anyone fill.me in as to what growing zone Ben is in?
He’s in zone 8
Halo i need help with brassica a semplified way to when to plant seeds and have brassicas all year round please thank you i m in north london

Go to a University office & ask for their “Master Gardener’s office!” As the title implies & student or not, they are very helpful! 😊
Month by month guides are worthless today. With climate change the seasons are on the march and each year the timing of changes moves.
