  • In this three-part series I take a look at how you can build a unique model, an M4A1 large hatch Sherman ex-DD, or Duplex Drive, swimming tank. I kit bashed two Sherman kits back in 2012 and released this a premium download on the website. Now, I have uploaded it as a 3-part series for free on the channel.
Included in the video is reference archive of the real vehicle...
I can't believe this is over 12 years ago - time flies.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy it and remember, you don't always need to spend a fortune, sometimes an old kit and some ingenuity will do just fine to make that project you've had whirling around in your noggin.
    Here are the chapters:
    05:01 Improving the hull
06:30 Cast surface textures using Mr. Surfacer
09:46 Making the suspension (AFV Club)
    10:42 Scratchbuilding parts
12:27 Superdetailing propeller mounts and fabrication
13:16 Tips and Tech - Moulding parts
14:49 Making surface details unique to DDs and Ex-DDs
    17:36 Making a Type 2 hedgerow cutter
18:20 Conclusion, finished shots and outro.
Here are the films mentioned in the video.
    • HOW TO USE MILLIPUT PUTTY
    • HOW TO GUIDE: MR. SURF...
    • THE SMALL SHOP HOLD & ...

The way this video is made, reminds me of old documentaries i was waching back in the 90s. A young fella learning aboout his hobby, from an old tv and a video cassette player, during a quiet summer afternoon.

When pouring resin for small, detailed parts I'd recommend dusting the mould with Talc first. This helps the resin flow into the moulded details via capillary action thus reducing bubbles and voids.

I admire the diligence and patience of the assembler who manages to do the intricate process of making miniatures especially fabricating other parts which are necessary to make a realistic Sherman tank w/ propeller..

    Great work mate!
Some real old time modelling skills that seems to be quite lacking in this new world of 3D printing and resin upgrades.
Really looking forward to watching your next build video.
Thanks for sharing your time and efforts.
    Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺 ❤😊

Very cool video. First time watching one of your videos. The historical information was great. For somebody like me that is still relatively new to the hobby, the information is great for learning about the details of the tanks. Got a new subscriber.

Reprorubber works great for recreating very fine details down to submircron level. Basically dental impression but for metrology, cures in minutes and has no foul odor is very easy to work with. No clean up needed either.
