You were very lucky to find a CJ with no mileage. I bought a side valve CJ with next to no miles a few years ago, but there was old gas in the system that ruined the carbs, I had to replace them. They are wonderful old bikes but need a lot of attention, particularly in the first 5000 kms. I had to change the oil 5 times in the first 1000. I have another M1M coming from China right now.
@@pistooli1 yes very lucky to find one! If you watched my videos the gas tank was terrible but my cleaning was successful. The carbs seem to be good and I will try to get it running with those on it however I have ordered new carbs just in case. So we will see how it goes. Where are you located? Good to hear from you!
@@pistooli1 oooh that’s discouraging!! lol. Yea I realize that it being 1930’s technology plus made in China that they will be maintenance heavy! But that’s ok. This is why I’m trying to learn and do as much as I can so it will not be a mystery!! I have a 1943 GPW jeep I restored and by doing so it made it much easier to tackle issues as the came up. Same technology just made by us!!
@@thegearcage6595 I do not recommend using fourth gear for the first four hundred kilometers. That said, you are lucky you got one with the 24 hp M1M engine, with love they will go on forever. Once sorted they will cruise happily at 60 KPH.
Yes indeed, as I intimated in my answer to your question on my channel, if you rotate the brake shoe actuating arm by one or two spline notches on the drum cam shaft, everything will probably be just fine. Where did you order the new handlebar grips from Sir? I could do with some new ones too. The carbs will be fine if the carb bodies were run dry at the last switch off, which is what I do when storing it for any appreciable time period. Nice looking rig. It would be best if you filmed in landscape mode for TH-cam (just saying).
@@onanysundrymule3144 thanks for the reply! I did move the arm on the drum I moved a few splines to the point where the cable was just long enough for me to reconnect it. I then adjusted the wing nut adjuster to the point where the shoes engaged the drum. But the brake lever still closes all the way to the handlebar. It will definitely stop the wheel when I engage the brake lever but goes all the way to the handlebar. It’s driving me crazy it should be super simple but nothing I do dives the problem. I can’t figure out what I’m missing. Yes I realized that I need to film in landscape after I already uploaded them. But thank for the advice. It’s definitely a learning curve!! Hit me up via email at davygray@cox.net and I give you the contact for the grips.
