    Buying of ETFs is easy, but buying the right one without a time-tested strategy is incredibly hard. Hence which is best to buy now or put on a watchlist? I’ve been trying to grow my portfolio of $260K for sometime now, my major challenge is not knowing the best entry and exit strategies... I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.

      The concept of using spreadsheets has always seemed incredibly time-consuming and superfluous to me. Each month, I simply deposit a large sum of money into my savings accounts, retain my spending money in an other account, and make an effort to spend as little money as possible.

      The best course of action if you lack market knowledge is to ask a consultant or investing coach for guidance or assistance. Speaking with a consultant helped me stay afloat in the market and grow my portfolio to about 65% since January, even though I know it sounds obvious or generic. I believe that is the most effective way to enter the business at the moment.

      I've shuffled through investment coaches and yes, they can be positively impactful to an individual's portfolio, but do your due diligence to find a coach with grit, one that withstood the 08' crash. While trying to build passive income and prepare for retirement, It’s important to choose stocks that are expected to hold up in inflationary environments. To combat the negative effect of inflation, it’s a good idea to diversify your portfolio across different asset classes, such as stocks, bonds, and real estate, since this can help protect your portfolio against inflation. I have seen people making up to $800k in a month during high-inflation

      One strategy is to invest in assets that perform well during inflation. Another strategy is to focus on companies that have the ability to pass on price increases to their customers. Talking about exchange symbols, there is an ETF in NYSE with symbol EMXC, and another ETF in LSE also with symbol EMXC. They were from different ETF providers, listed on different exchanges, yet track the same index.
    And then there're many ETFs with different symbols, which differ only in trading currency (VUSA is in GBP, CHF, or EUR depending on exchange; VUSD is in USD)
    And then there're many ETFs with both accumulating and distributing versions. These two versions trade under different symbols.
    And then many ETFs listed in Asian exchanges use digit-only symbols, which means completely different thing in different exchanges.

Most people simply log into TH-cam to learn about the stocks to choose from, without a basic understanding of risk and portfolio selection tolerance.

    In Australia it's very much worth being aware that most of the ETFs actually make distributions rather than pay dividends and that the tax deferred (and some other aspects) of these distributions actually reduces the cost base of the asset so the record keeping aspect is actually more difficult than simply "I paid this and got dividends of this" in fact over a long enough period it's quite probable that you would have a zero cost base and that those tax deferred amounts would actually be capital gains when received. It's definitely worth finding a good accountant who is on top of this if you're thinking of investing in 15+ year time frames, especially given the ATO's knowledge base and reporting on this kind of thing is expanding rapidly and the times of avoiding them is pretty much over.

    So I'm wondering, considering the all time highs. Would you rather spend 100k in Let's say vanguard all world at once or deposit a amount a month up until when you reach the 100k within a 20 year period.

    • @matthart5817
      @matthart5817 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So in this scenario you have $100,000 right now and these are the only 2 options?
      If you stretch out $100k over 240 months that’s only ~ $417 per month you’re depositing. Most of the money you have in the beginning won’t be earning interest at all and the last $417 you deposit won’t have earned a penny of interest over 19 years 11 months.
      Investing it all immediately is the better option.
      Of course, if you thought stocks were overvalued and due for a correction maybe you’d want to dollar cost average - but probably over a shorter term than 20 years! Like 10k per month over 10 months, etc.
      But you only gave those two extreme options (if I understand your question correctly)

    • @SlikcraftKrimpfolie
      @SlikcraftKrimpfolie 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Matt Hart hey Matt, you understood perfectly. I chose 20 years as that's the time span of me hoping to be financially independent. I do think the market is overvalued at the moment but the big question of course is when will something big happen. I'm now thinking of a smaller position in vanguard and a larger one in P2p lending. And then when the market moves re-distribute the portfolio to a healthy split. Options... Options...

      @Elliott large cap diversification is really all you need if you're DCAing over the long term. You could argue that small and mid cap investments can broaden your portfolio but if you're doing a set-and-forget style investment and aren't THAT invested in following market prices, cash flows and reports day in and day out (like most passive investors), then you increase your risk by holding these small cap companies that could potentially default or have negative growth over time, even if you're covering a particular sector or index. You have a point about diversifying through different market domiciles though, but I think most beginner passive investors would be much better off just holding an index of large cap companies with less volatility... just easier to sleep at night

      @@benshipp1814 actually there is a strong basis in the academic literature for diversification across multiple risk factors. The problem has been that the investment products needed to do this properly have not been available to retail investors until quite recently , at least at a low cost. If you invest only in the S&P 500 you have exposure to only one source of returns - market Beta.
      Risk factors such as size , value , robust profitability and conservative investment have less correlation than stocks across nations do - when the market does poorly , often another cross section of stocks does well. You can still invest passively at low fees and tilt your portfolio to these risk factors.
      Not only that , these factors have delivered a premium in excess of market returns over long time periods , so as long as you are broadly diversified within these types of stocks (which can be done via etfs) you can expect a return to compensate for taking extra risk.
      Portfolios diversified across multiple risk factors have been shown to deliver higher / more reliable returns in the long run - but it does add some extra complexity to portfolio construction, and there are a lot of pitfalls because many etf providers market their products to make it seem like their etfs are targeting risk factors , when in fact they’re doing a really poor job of it. You need to look under the hood with these types of etfs. That is why many , as you say , are likely just fine with a broad market fund , but there is definitely a case to be made to be better diversified.
      As a side note , this is the reason why buffet has had market beating returns , he’s targeted risk factors such as value and profitability- and you can too using etfs.

    On the other hand, you can only contribute EARNED INCOME to a Roth. So if I were to sell $15,000 of stock each year & that was my only income, could I contribute $6,000 of that to a Roth?
