      It really depends on the track. I have the 4 channel hardware unit and I also can use the plug-in after the fact so I can adjust if necessary. The hardware unit I treat like a compressor to either add some smack or length, and sometimes "chop" the sound coming in. I use it mostly on the snare, but have it patched in for kick, and overheads or room mics. It's a killer device and awesome on drums
