I once encountered Count St. Germain in New Orleans right after Hurricane Katrina while working as a Louisiana State Special Officer stationed in the French Quarter along with a squad of National Guard. It was basically deserted with no power and horrible crime everywhere and out of nowhere a very well dressed man came up to us and casually said ( It's a nice night out for Jack. ) and gave us a strange smile. I was so unnerved I had drawn my firearm without even realizing it which I never do and we looked at each other and then looked back to him and he was gone. One of the National Guard soldiers jumped in the Hum-Ve and manned the .50 caliber machine gun and we hit the spot light but he just wasn't there. We later mentioned this to one of the priests at St. Marys Catholic church next to the Ursaline convent and he said we had met the Count. I saw many strange and unexplainable things down there many I will never be able to forget.

In the late 1960s my good friend Keith Ashton, was a well known Radio DJ. One night he received a phone on air, from
St. Germaine. When asked by Keith to give some indication of his identity, the caller simply answered:
" For you, time will stay still, for me it is always so.."
As Keith was thinking out loud how to respond, the blood drained from his face, as he realised the clock on the wall had indeed stopped.

I have made considerable study of the Comte St. Germain over the past 30 years, along with other subjects of the occult. He was recognized in the 1830's in a train station in Paris by a woman that was a young girl associated with the court of Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette 4 decades earlier with no aging whatever.
Furthermore, he is noted as being in attendance at the Great Masonic Convention of 1932 in Paris. I assume he will continue to pop up here and there for a long time to come.

My late mum and her cousin were in Amsterdam on holiday and sitting in an outdoor cafe when a well-dressed gentleman approached them and asked if he could sit with them as there were no seats available, they said yes. Mum said he spoke perfect English and he asked them both how their holiday was going. As they were talking, mum mentioned she had lectured in art history at a university in the Netherlands on Vermeer and Caravaggio. The gent nodded his head and spoke about both of the artists as if he had personally met them. He also spoke about the murder of Tomassoni (I think that's the name) and how he had seen Caravaggio murder him. All this time, while mum and her cousin were drinking coffee, this man only sipped on mineral water. When mum told me about him, I said "Well, I think you met the Count de St Germain" and showed her some articles on him.

@@lisaornelas6247So does Carmilla, the vampiress who came before, and indeed surprisingly inspired Dracula's creator Bram Stoker, Dracula's story. Carmilla was an Austrian royal who was assassinated on her 21st birthday, along with her parents, but another female vampire, who was there that night, who decided that the girl deserved a chance for a long life. Then of course Carmilla flees and goes to England where she meets Laura.
There was an intention by J.S. Le Fanu to write a sequel to Carmilla's story, possibly the story was going to be telling what happened after fleeing that village that Laura lived in, faking her death, and THEN coming back when Laura was dying to give Laura a chance at immortality to be able to walk alongside her. That also is unfortunately not true and is more possibility right now than reality.

The first time I heard of St. Germaine was while on a tour in New Orleans. I was shown a building, prime real estate in the middle of the French Quarter wherein, it is said, St. Germaine had a residence in the late 1800s (or early 1900s ... I forget). He fled under some mysterious circumstances. Frankly, that entire tale could well just be a local legend to lend to a tour of haunted places and such. But it got me looking into the fellow. New Orleans was a place I visited in the 80’s. I didn’t realize it at the time, but there is such a dark history there. I was just about in tears for no apparent reason many times during these visits. Later, I learned about this history of the city, including that insane woman who conducted bizarre medical experiments on her slaves, in one of the buildings in the French Quarter. Someone I knew also told me that it was only a matter of time before the levees were breached, and it was likely inevitable in no small part due to the city being below sea level.

Sounds kinda like an early urban legend. Like, we can't take everything from history at face value. Methinks people were just having a bit of fun with a pre-internet meme. Chuck Norris not having been invented yet, they amused each other by sharing stories and "facts" about a public domain character whom anyone was free to embellish. "Oh, you saw him in the French royal court? Well, my friend's uncle's servant's brother's lover's twin's cousin saw him at the signing of the Declaration of Independence. He looked well, by the way."

One theory that I've heard, I believe it was on the Sixties show "In Search Of," was that the St. Germain lived to an exceptionally old age for his time. I think the narrator said that back around the time of the French Revolution, being in your forties was ripe old age, but "ninety was forever." Of course, it's so much more fun to imagine him being immortal. I enjoyed your account of him. I didn't know, for instance, that he knew Cassanova.

Before the internet was a common thing, I was into the occult and the paranormal. I read in a book that the youth of the count was not of his knowledge or skills in alchemy, nor was it a blessing. In the book I read it was actually a curse set upon him by Jesus, and while Jesus dragged his cross through the streets to the site of his crusafiction he met eyes with the count and asked him a question (It may have been for water but I'm not sure) whatever the question was, the count spit on him. Jesus smiled at and and said something along the lines of you will have everlasting life. (Not a good thing as you shall see everyone and everything you love disappear and die before you and leave you behind, alone forever. And that is why the count had so many connections and such knowledge and wealth. And of course why he never aged. Im not saying that is the right version, just tht I read it when I was a kid

I heard they are brothers - the 1st and 2nd sons of God and they always incarnate in the same soul group (ex. Jesus and John the Baptist). He always serves as a herald of Jesus. If you read the first 20 or so Shakespearian sonnets (Shakespeare aka Francis Bacon being the most famous of St. Germain's incarnations), they are all about someone very close to him who, despite his beauty and many fine qualities, is his own worst enemy (due to childhood trauma) and hides himself away from the world which Francis considers a tragedy. I believe he is an incarnation of Jesus. In these first 20 or so sonnets he urges him to find love, marry and reproduce again and again so that the precious gift of himself may be preserved by his offspring for posterity.

Apparently his actions cursed the family name to a lifetime of tragedy where the eldest son always perishes under questionable circumstances.

As you yourself said in one instance, St. Germain was not as we would consider a flashy person, given to dramatic scenes or perhaps outlandish talk. He was more of the WYSIWYG type, but still looked fashionable. The "Richard person" who said he was St. Germain, isn't. He doesn't fit the character. I would love to study under St. Germain or just know the man. I love history. If the man has gone on into the great beyond, then i hope he rest easy. Cain was cursed by God to continuously wander the world, protected by the mark God put on him so that he could not die prematurely. I find it interesting that Germain has traveled everywhere, has surely been in situations where he would have gotten killed accidently or by murder, and not one story that I have been able to find of him having actually fought anywhere for any reason. A time antiques dealer, Richard Chanfray then made himself known by claiming to be the Count of Saint-Germain, a character who had notably frequented the court of Louis XV. In 1972, he was discovered by the general public on the occasion of an ORTF program, entitled The Third Eye, devoted to alchemy: in a report on him, he declared on the air to be the famous alchemist "immortal" of the 18th century, claims to be "17,000 years old" and, in the presence of the magician Gérard Majax, performs a number of "transformation of lead into gold". In 1975, on Spanish television, he renewed his experience as an alchemist in front of a dozen scientists.
Having become a media star, the adventurer gained further notoriety by becoming the companion of the singer Dalida, to whom he was introduced by Pascal Sevran1. Legend has it that the “count” arrived at her home on October 21, 1972, wearing a black cape and a frilled shirt2. At that time, Dalida was depressed: the suicides of Luigi Tenco and Lucien Morisse, as well as the death of her mother, weakened her. Their affair lasted nine years, until 1981. In 1973, Pascal Sevran devoted a book to the "immortal" entitled Le Comte de Saint-Germain, today, which he later admits was about a “phony” work. Dalida has no illusions about the mythomania of Richard Chanfray, who lives off her hooks but whose “sweet madness” she appreciates1. In addition to his colorful personality, the “Count of Saint-Germain” also stood out for his whimsical, megalomaniac and temperamental side. Pascal Sevran later testified that with him “two out of three dinners turned into drama”4.
During his relationship with Dalida, Richard Chanfray fed the social chronicles, which allowed him to consider a career as a singer. In 1975, under the leadership of Orlando, Dalida's brother, he recorded, in duet with her, the title Et de l'amour, de l'amour. In 1976, he released Pour une femme with Polydor, then, in 1977, Le Frimeur, with Sonopresse and, in 1978, Gallaxie Express. He also takes care, for a time, of the mail from the heart and of the horoscope of magazines for adolescent girls.
On the evening of June 18, 1976, returning from a dinner at the restaurant in the mansion on rue d'Orchampt, the couple saw a light in the room of Maria, the maid then on vacation in Portugal. Entering the mansion, Richard Chanfray seizes a rifle offered by Dalida. The couple go up to the third floor and discover an individual lying on the bed in the bedroom: he tells them that he is the chambermaid's friend, which she will confirm later. As the latter takes a step forward, Richard Chanfray shoots and the intruder is wounded by a bullet between two vertebrae. Dalida and Richard Chanfray call the police. Hospitalized, the individual lodged a complaint. Richard Chanfray was arrested while he was with Dalida in his town in Corsica and imprisoned on remand in Fresnes - for a month - for intentional assault5. Dalida pays her bail money. This publicized news item seriously disrupted his relationship with the singer, which ended in early 19813.
He appeared as an actor in the TV movie Le Coffre et le Revenant, directed by Roger Hanin in 1980.
On July 20, 1983 in the evening, on an isolated road in Ramatuelle near Saint-Tropez, Richard Chanfray was found dead inside a car, along with his new companion, Paula Loos, born Guily, aged 51. years6. The lovers would have succumbed by asphyxiation to the exhaust gases connected by a pipe to the passenger compartment of a Renault 5, after the ingestion of barbiturate

I live across the Miss River from New Orleans. I have heard about the St. Germain story in the French Quarter. Ever since HS (Upper school) 44 yrs ago. We (friends & I) boyfriend, friends, brothers, etc... would always go drinking, clubbing, in the Quarters, & I always felt odd, uneasy, as if I were being followed. (No, I was not feeling affects of alcohol, as I was "usually" the designated driver! So now that I'm older (55) & more mature & realuze the Quarter is nothing but an overpriced Disney Land for drunk adults, I stopped going there. Last time I went was when 2nd nephew got married (wedding recepion) was in a hotel, right off of Bourbon St. I was "designated" driver, so not drinking. Carried sidearm concealed. Mom had dementia, so another reason I couldn't drink!

The story of Saint Germaine is certainly an entertaining tale, but one that I feel is fiction. But I've been wrong before.

S.G. is NOT fiction, his life IS quite true indeed.

Stop feeling and start thinking, then you might not be wrong, as you are in asserting this story is fiction. That's ridiculous, as many historical records/diaries, letters speak of encountering the man. Believe that he was a con artist in high society, if you so wish, but stop putting your head in the sand, denying historical facts.

The etymological meaning of St Germain is Holy/Sacred Brother. Cain comes to mind.

Ohhh, that might be where the "Blessed Brother" plot point comes from in that one game... The Museum of Lost Memories? I can't remember the name anymore; this was late 90s, maybe very early 2000s.
      Neat! Thanks for the info!

In listening to your perfectly pitched, mellifluous presentation, I am oddly struck with one ungracious question: Does there exist a clip of outtakes? A flubbed line here, a tongue-twisted bit of trouble there, I think it would be hilarious! Though perhaps not to you. :)
