I had the privilege of meeting Joel a few times at Berea Rovers club, after Natal matches. A really nice person and true gentleman. Not too shabby with the boot either!
I remember that in 1995 that Kitch Christie regarded Joel Stranky as the most talented player in our World Cup squad. JS was much more than just that drop goal that won us our first World Cup. Much respect from s 65 year old Afrikaans outoppie!
It was a very interesting interview to hear Joel's comments. I want to thank him for kicking that drop goal in 1995. Through the years of watching rugby I have listened to his commentary often. Something I picked up in the long run, is that he seems to come across as having a noticeable negative undertone towards SA rugby in his comments by being overly sympathetic towards our opponents which could be a little annoying. I have no idea how good a coach Markgraaf was, nor the reasons why Joel did not get on with him, but it seems that the politically correct thing to do is to criticize Markgraaf due to the incident that led to him being fired (Well deserved imo). Maybe just a little personal beef there from Joel. Anyway, a good interview thanx
Markgraaf was a very bad coach. He dropped Stransky twelve months after Stransky scored all 15 points in the World Cup final. Markgraaf also questioned Stransky about some scurrilous rumor that Stransky was involved in an extra marital affair. After being dropped, Stransky played extremely well for Leicester and helped them win the Pilkington Cup. I don't blame Stransky for being bitter, but to his credit in this interview he did not spill all the dirt on Markgraaf.
JS has never been an embracer of mediocrity. He is a man who has always stood in the courage of his conviction, and when the Boks have been poor in the past, he has rightfully called them out for it. I distinctly remember the Toetie days
Stransky was only preferred over Vlok Cilliers because of who he was, and not because of any superior ability. Vlok Cilliers is to this day pursued as a specialist coach whilst Stransky is all over the media making banal comments and confessing the sins of hu whyte south africa or bokke rugby. As far as Markgraaf goes the results were trending very well, he was building something good, thrashing tour opposition - Stransky being an internationalist and Markgraaf being a proud Afrikaner were never going to get along. Stransky has never once complained about the role of coach Solomons in Mallets anti - Afrikaner camp and the conduct which cost the Boks the 99 World Cup. Now why is that, I wonder? why was he alwasy so soft on Solomons? and how did they take out Maarkgraaf? people >inside< the Bok camp, taping and surveilling people.. they LOVE that surveillance.... Point blank Stransky benefited from his connections whilst others who were more deserving fell by the wayside precisely because thay lacked Stransky's connections.
@@leoncolwin8645 Or maybe he tried to sh*t all over other Afrikaners for being 'broederbonders' when he himself was part of secret lodges that wiileded far more power.. why else do you think he went to Leicester? because of the secret society connections there. A hypocrite of the highest order - but sure, try and play the victim card for the most protected and most powerful.. that's nothing new.
@@nicholasvanlierde2546 Mallett and Solomons went anti Afrikaner and alienated a lot of players. Also dropping Teichman and picking anglo Skinstad instead did for their hopes, Mallett has since admitted it - but that was particularly Solomons' agenda there. Stransky will never talk about all that.

Unfortunately SuperSport has cursed us for 20 years with Joel gushing over anything a player of colour has done on the rugby pitch. The guy just catches a pass and the raving goes on for 2 minutes.
Joel remembered for that drop goal...But lets not forget what an amazing servant he has been of our game ..I salute !
Loved that interview! So nice to hear what the okes are getting up to after they hang their boots up. Thanks Pieter andJoel
Thank you Joel, you are an incredible gentleman!

The kicking wasn't bad at all 😉

I was blown away by this interview. Very different to what my perception was, to be honest.
Love your interviews Pieter. In good spirits, honest and super respectful! Keep up the good work!
Thank you. I will make sure to tell Peter!
What a cool and sharp, humble rugby man Joel Stransky is. I really enjoy his commentary these days he’s very fair.
Excellent interviewer, good luck going forward.
Classy onderhoud met 'n classy dude wat 'n classy losskakel was. Dankie aan albei.
Great interview thank you
4 times. Three times in the incoming series and once 17-18 in November in France. Dillyn Leyds try being the difference
Boks won all of them. Keep up the good work.
Mark Andrews took quite exception to it when Kitch Christie told him to call him either Coach or Mr Christie.
I met Him couple of timed in cape town..oh wot a guy.. very humble as well
He only supportered sharks no matter what team winning or loosing 😢😢😢😢
Glad to see at last that I am not the only one who thinks the Markgraf era was the Springbok's lowest point.
I don’t believe we won that test against the French. They scored in that 95 game.
We also scored against the all blacks in the final
