- An eternal dispute between cat and dog lovers. Who is smarter, a dog or a cat? There is no difference for us, we love our pets equally much. We just arrange competitions so that the mind of our three kitties and three huskies develops constantly. This is necessary for a person, isn't it?

Having grown up around cats I’m biased towards them but I’d say they have a greater capacity for problem solving and observational skills.
My first cat used to pick the lock on his cage, open doors in the house, and most impressively I watched him push a can of his wet food from the pantry to the electric can opener we had mounted near the fridge.
Dogs are smart as well but I feel like they part of that is their capacity to be trained and motivated by food.

Eric, I think you're the smartest one of all in finding these creative ways to give interactive and educational toys to your cats and dogs. You're also very careful to make sure the toys are safe for them as well. I think I'll go looking for a plastic bottle to try this with our two dogs. It looks like fun for everyone!

I would have to say Yuki is the smartest. Yes she needed a second chance, but she completely changed her strategy, which shows an ability to both remember and learn from her mistakes. Mistakes don't make you unintelligent, and lucking into a solution doesn't make you more intelligent. Learning and adapting is the truest form of intellect.

I‘ve been afraid of dogs most of my life. I‘ve been a cat person most of my life and I think I‘m still today. But I‘ve overcome my fears and have two dogs of my own now. Wonderful companions, just like the cats, just different. Never place yourself in a drawer with a name on it. Be open minded. If someone tells me that reptiles are wonderful pets I would just listen, be open minded. There is such a lot you can learn!

2. The 6 Individual Pet Personalities. We as subscribers become familiar with the individual pets. And so, I find myself mentally cheering on Yuki with the bell & etc. +
3. Observing the cerebral capabilities of dogs and cats to solve problems. I learn about animals.
4. Humor. The witty subtitles add good humor. The video techniques add some of the humor. But really, each individual pet is inherently funny as they use their unique personalities to work through the challenge.

Food is the best motivator! Really gets their interest up, smelling goodies, you can see how much fun it is for them, love it ❤️❤️❤️ I have a few of those bobble things that leak treats, my cat loves to bat it around, snack, smack it across the floor, snack, repeat.
Your cat must be really having fun. It is difficult for us to organize a game for one person. everyone else immediately comes running and tries to take it away 🙂

I recall seeing a documentary where they tested both wolves and dogs on problem solving. If the wolves saw no solution, they'd give up. The dogs would look to the human for help if they couldn't solve it because they know we're the brains of the group.

Having lived with both, they are pretty equal in IQ. They are different in personality somewhat but also cats are more flexible, double jointed etc they can do more with the feet and claws structure so can cause more trouble.

I dropped two treats in front of my male Weimaraner. They bounced two feet apart. The dog put a paw on one treat eat the other one. Lifted up his paw then eat the second treat.

The cats solve the problem calmly, eat the food and let the bottle intact, like if nothing happened. The dogs have anxiety from the start, use the force and let the bottle like a mess. For me cats have always been smarter.

I have to wonder if Monty and the other dogs kept bringing the bottle back to the rug because that's where they associated the treats coming out. They initial ones all came out on the rug for Monty. Could that be where he thinks the reward happens? Possibly the same for the others?

Cats are NOT short sighted, they have very sharp sight, up to six times more powerful than humans and their eyes are especially adapted for motion detection.
They do however have trouble focusing on near objects, that's why they rely on their smell to locate treats on the ground.
