Song was written by Joe South. Lynn decided to record it & everyone tried to talk her out of it. They said it was written for a male singer. It becames Lynns biggest hit & her signature song. She has many songs to listen to. "Stay there til l get there" "Fool me" "Listen to a country song" "You're my man," "Top of the world" "Sing about love," "Wrap your love all around your man," "Cry," "How can l unlove you" But my favorite Lynn Anderson song is "I'm gonna write a song"
This song was such a huge hit worldwide, it made Lynn Anderson an international superstar. One of the biggest hits in popular music history. Plus, it didn't hurt that Lynn was a striking beauty.
You should listen to Donna Fargo happiest girl in the whole USA, Tanya Tucker Delta Dawn, Dolly Parton salt in my tears, Pam Tillis maybe it was Memphis terri gibb somebody's knocking, Louise mandrell maybe my baby, Sylvia, nobody. These are some real good songs
I was 14 in 1971 when I heard this song, Like others use the phrase. " Dude! I said one cigarette! I never promised you a Rose Garden!" I'm watching this for the first time and figured Lynn Anderson would be a boring figure. Wrong. She's been SUPER CUTE singing all these years. My loss. Your CUTE too AceTheHeart. Very observant in music. ♥
One of my all time favorites. I based a lot of my life on that. At one time I was supposed to buy her used SUV. I waited and waited and waited until I could not wait any more. I gave up and bought something else when they said she's not gonna give the vehicle up! Lol!!! My loss!!!
"Rose Garden" was a big crossover hit for Lynn Anderson in 1970-71 topping the country charts in the US as well as the international charts across several countries including Germany. It was a top five hit on the pop charts in the US. I remember hearing the song on the radio when I was a little kid. The catchy hook of the chorus caught my ear and we had a small rose garden in our backyard back then which was a potentially thorny obstacle to be avoided. So the figurative reference in the lyrics left me curious and I'm pretty sure I asked my mom about the song at some point. Heh.
This played a lot on easy listening radio way back when, for years. The writer also wrote "Hush" which became a hit for Deep Purple. The writer credited the change in his music, which now led to hits, to his earlier collaboration with Bob Dylan. So in a way, chalk this up to more of Bob Dylan's influence, changing music in the mid-60s.
I'd smile while singing this song too if it changed my bank account the way it changed hers. It's a great tune and I love songs with lyrics that actually make a point.
Can't remember is I suggested this to you...I think you may like a Canadian duo called RyanDan....twin brothers, harmonies are unbelievable. Try their song "Like the Sun" excellent. Thank you for your reactions, I always enjoy them
There's my childhood right there.......
